Great match, gotta recognize the effort by Australia.

Group B has been the most interesting one this far.

That was a doozy.
That was not the Australia team, that was a different force entirely. They lost by a goalkeeping crack.
Sensible from the Dutch team in getting it back though. Memphis played a credible game in addition to that winner.

That was probably the best game of the tournament so far. Kudos to the Aussies for going all out until the final whistle but they just didn't have anything left to give. Now onto Spain v Chile where we can see how Spain will respond to the 5-1 v Holland. Casillas starts in goal for Spain which is a brave choice by Del Bosque. I hope Mata comes on sometime in this game. Unfortunately, I think De Gea is injured.
 
I thought that was Australia out, but it depends on what happens in the next game - they need Spain to win.

Spain and Australia can both go out simultaneously if Chile win tonight - what are the chances?!
 
I think Spain will win tonight. And then Australia pummels Spain and the Netherlands destroy Chile so that the Ozzies will advance.
 
Netherlands's first ever win over Australia: 3-2

This was a disappointing game for Australia. Yes, they played well, but were responsible for its undoing. From not taking their chances to score, to making mistakes that led to them conceding, and no example has been better than the events before the decisive goal-How we went from nearly scoring (which, btw Tommy Oar should have gone for the shot instead of crossing, or Matthew Leckie should have chested the ball at the side the keeper wasn't at) to conceding the decisive goal is beyond me. Even the Netherlands's 2nd equaliser was due to the defence not in line and thus, not enforcing an offside trap (a mistake they did against Croatia in their last friendly that cost them a goal-just about identical in fact).
They didn't learn from their game against Chile. In fact, it is these mistakes that are responsible for every goal conceded against them so far (the only exception I would give would be Chile's 2nd goal against them), and if you remove that from the equation, you can only imagine what could have and should have been...
Thus, it was overall disappointing. The only way they can get through is if they beat Spain, who need to beat Chile, and the Netherlands beat Chile. And even then, Australia need to beat Spain (and the Netherlands need to beat Chile) convincingly to help their goal difference. Guess Australia could be one of the first to go packing then...

(Oh well, time to vouch for Croatia then...)

Dammit man. Give the Ozzies some credit. First game was close for them to win it, no thanks to the ref. This game was even closer for them to win.
So the third game will be a win for the Ozzies.
 
To be fair, that should never have been a penalty for Australia tonight - it should only be a foul (or a penalty) if there is deliberate handball, and that was clearly not the case here.

Still, credit to them for playing well - but I think they were playing at their limit while Holland could have played alot better.

I wanted Australia to win and although they got a lucky penalty they were robbed of a goal early in the second half by the ref, in the end Holland probably deserved the 3 points.
 
Man, it seems like we're about to get dumped on by heavy rain and get hit by strong winds. I just hope it doesn't impact the TV signal cause I really want to watch Spain vs. Chile.
 
We've got some early contenders for dumbasses of the tournament tonight... some Chile supporters have ran amok through the media centre at the Maracana stadium, and have now been stopped and rounded up. Well done guys - you've waited years to see the World Champions play your side in the biggest tournament of all, and now you'll miss the game and probably spend the night in a police interview room. Bravo.

Yes, Spain will be out then because Chile and the Netherlands will both have 6 points and Australia and Spain will both have 0.
 
And Spain will be bottom on goal difference.

No surprise then that Del Bosque has made changes, Martinez and Pedro in for Pique and Xavi, Casillas keeps his palce and is captain!
 
Chile has a great sounding anthem with that filled stadium.
And it seems that there is trouble outside the Maracana getting all the people in.

I disagree with this statement, while he clearly did not intend to use his hands, he didn't keep his hands close to his body and deflected the ball with his hand(or arm in this case). A penalty is a harsh punishment but fair in this case.
 
If Chile keep this pace up they will run out of steam long before the end, just as against Australia.

The official statement for it is that the hand needs to go to the ball for it to be a foul, and that was clearly not the case. It should not have been a penalty.
 
Well, it was the expected result, but the Aussies certainly gave the Dutch a scare. And Cahill gave everyone a goal to remember.

Time to put an Oranje shirt on I guess.
