So FIFA somehow planned to have a draw in this match?

Sorry, but you're coming across as a sore loser. If Portugal was able to score an equaliser, it wasn't because of the extra time. It was because of the obvious gaping holes in the American defence that even an amateur like myself could spot. They could fight off an offensive as needed, but withered under a sustained attack. All Portugal had to do was maintain pressure late in the game when everyone was worn down, and they would eventually break through - which they did.
 
It's really a good feeling to see the sheer emotion that this competition is causing the US just now. For a country who weren't that interested until the past 5 or so years, they really do seem to be loving the beautiful game. :D

@prisonermonkeys I having nothing to be sore about, I literally said within the last 2 pages this:
In this competiton more than ever, it seems none of the officials can accurately judge stoppage...for legit reasons or FIFA Fixing honest mistakes.

I didn't just come up with this at the end of the game.
 
Am I the only one around here that wanted Portugal to win?

So, Portugal can get through if the US lose 1-0 and they win 4-0 against Ghana, and Ghana can get through if the US lose and they win 1-0 against Portugal.

N.B In Portugal's scenario the US will lose in terms of Goals Scored (which is determined after Points and Goal Difference), and in Ghana's scenario the US will lose by Goal Difference

But Ghana looked good against the Germans yesterday, they were flying on the counter attack....like a team of Usain Bolts!!
 
Well, I don't know if the US will make it out of group stage now. Group G is pretty much anyone's group (with the exception of Portugal- they need help to make it out). They need to win to be guaranteed to make it because Ghana could probably beat Portugal.

How much additional time have we seen in this world cup so far? Absolutely insane numbers, for little to no reason at all. It was the same for Iran yesterday and not only is it blatant but it is a slap in the face to the sport and it's integrity.

But hey, we have a lot of meaningful Game 3s now.

How many US players did you see laying in the pitch and loosing time repositiong the ball? Why shoud the referee benefit the team playing dirty? You need to take out your US glasses. ;)

I got it figured out...

So, Portugal can get through if the US lose 1-0 and they win 4-0 against Ghana, and Ghana can get through if the US lose and they win 1-0 against Portugal.

No. For Portugal to pass:

Portugal 3 - 0 Gana
Germany 2 - 0 USA

It seems impossible to me. Speacially the 3-0 with gana.

Either way, Portugal need to cut a -4 GD, no matter how it is done...
I should've mentioned that that was what would happen if the US lost 1-0

On another topic...

I think that Belgium are the true thieves this world cup, how have they managed to book a finals spot so easily playing so poorly? :lol:

You know what was ********? Not 5 minutes extra time, but the fact that USA couldn't clear the ball to literally save its life. Just ****ing kick it into the upper deck! They also have touch like a rock. Wtf stop bouncing the ball everywhere creating these turnovers. Control!

That's pretty much where I was at with the ending of the game. The lack of proper clearing was holding the US back at the end of the game and the lack of control was hurting them as well. The US should have won that game.

FIFA didn't want a draw, or at least the officials weren't trying to create one, but the added time with many of the matches thus far has been excessive. When they originally said 4 minutes I thought that was a little generous, but 5 minutes was ridiculous.

And before you call me a sore loser, I'm not even a US supporter. I've been pulling for the Netherlands since day 1.

I saw that Ronaldo counter attack from a mile away. They really screwed the poch. Should've kicked it at the Portugoal. I'm at a sports bar watching it. Totally just ruined everyone's evening.

Their group is also a bit lame to be honest. Korea wasn't really a threat, Russia plays à lá Italiana: very tied up in the back and not balanced and Algeria hadn't win their game win Belgium because the coach assembeled a defensive team. Belgium invented some chances here and there and they take those chances.
 
Can't argue there, will be interesting to see if we can actually see the team that's been hyped to no end as an underdog since Day 1!
 
Belgium will be eliminated right way with whoever stays in second in Group G. And Algeria will go through with ease and I reckon they stand a chance with whoever goes in first place in our group.
 
Algeria have no hope if they play Germany.

After all, Portugal was really pushing on the US team in the last 10 minutes, the push got so bad that they nearly score more than once, after that push the logical extension would have been 3 minutes, often more time is added (AFAIK) when something happens in the field that alters the whole game length (i.e. player severely injured making the game halt for more than 4 or 5 minutes, or situations in which the time is lengthened). As far as I see it there was no causal to actually make the game longer than 3 minutes, maybe 4, but 5 was just asking that Portugal pressure to a draw.

US played well, deserved to win. Worst thing in this WC have been the referees, it's been a joke since the first match.

That Nigeria-Bosnia game was laughable.
 
I thought the USA played really well, it just was bad timing by the team on that goal. Neither goal scored by Portugal wouldn't of been stopped by Tim Howard anyway because they were scored so quick, no chance to react. Will US make in? Me personally, I don't know. Germany may blow them out the water. As for the Japanese Team, a chance at best.
 
Feel bad for the US, they deserved the win, unlike the Ghana game. So I guess things are balanced out now :lol:
