Race Report – N24 CSS Round 2 (Room 2) 30th September 2013 – 60+1 Laps

Track Dry – Tyres RM

The Grid after 20 min free qualifying

1. Jonnyb1990 (CCR) – Lotus Elise 111r RM (Beige #19) – ‘JONNY’
2. Cobani (T2.6K) – Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 (Orange #28) – ‘COBANI
3. Gadget334 (TMB)- Mazda RX7 Touring Car (Yellow #34) – ‘Gadget’
4. ANFD – (TG) Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (Orange #17) – ‘NEIL’
5. The-burre (TOR) – Subaru Impreza Touring Car '02 (Chrome #69) - ‘BURRE’
6. hooliohall (NSPR) – BMW M3 GTR Race Car (White/Blue #42) - ‘TONY’
7. WIDFO (GHH) – Honda NSX Proto LM Race (Red #11) – ‘JOHAN’

Lap 2 – (first racing lap)

Cobani tries unsuccessfully to go around the outside of pole sitter Jonny into T2. Johans NSX manages to get past Tony’s Beemer for 6th.

Lap 4

Gadget drafts past the Vette for 2nd place.

Tony does the same to Johan’s NSX, but outbrakes himself and ends up in the kitty litter and also back into 7th.

Lap 5

Cobani gets the draft this time, re passing the RX7 into T2.

…….but Gadget gets a better run through Turns 4 and 5 and take the place back at the T6 hairpin.

Leaderboard end of Lap 5

Lap 6

The Scooby drafts past Neil for 4th, but the Vette gets out of shape under braking and nurfs the rear right of the Scooby sending it into the gravel. Neil slows to let Burre regain the position. Both are now running with light damage but carry on.

Lap 9

The battle for 2nd has been raging for 9 laps now. Accelerating out of T6 Cobani puts 2 outside wheels in the gravel and it’s enough to turn him around, allowing the TMB TX7 back into 2nd

Neil gets a draft down the straight to reclaim 4th, but the GHH NSX is closing in as these two battle.

Leaderboard end of Lap 11

Lap 12

The Scooby stop for tyres and to repair the light damage. This drops the TOR car to the back of the field.

Lap 13

Gadget pits for a routine stop and re-joins the race in 7th

Lap 14
Now Cobani stops for tyres……..

But Gadget achieves the undercut and passes Cobani in the pits. The RX7 is now closing in rapidly on Tony’s 4th place BMW.

With a better run through T5, the BMW on its older tyres is easy meat into the T6 hairpin.

Lap 15

Johans tyres are beginning to fall off the cliff, and as he gets crossed up accelerating out of T15, Gadget gets a run on him to move into 3rd. Johan pits on what appears to be a 3 stop strategy

Lap 16

Jonny motors serenely on in the lead, still on the original tyres and still lapping faster than any other cars on the track.

Neil pits for tyres and to repair that light damage. Tony also pits the BMW.

Lap 20

Finally the Lotus pits for tyres and a thimble full of fuel.

Leaderboard end of Lap 23

Lap 24

Tony has closed right up on Johan’s NSX, and would draft past him for 5th on the main straight

Lap 26

Gadget pits which drops him to 3rd.

Lap 29

Burre lining up the NSX up out of T17 for a draft pass on the main straight

Lap 30

Cobani pits for tyres. Looks like Cobani is 3 stoppings and Gadget is 4 stopping. Although these two haven’t been close on track since lap 12, they are very much fighting each other for that 2nd place, and their pace is very similar.

Leaderboard end of Lap 30

Lap 34

A solo spin into the Armco for Tony at T6. Lots of damage, and a crawl back to the pits will be required.

Lap 51

What’s this? No, it’s not a track limit infringement, it’s Jonny running wide and hitting the wall on the exit of T2. He’ll be carrying light front left damage for the last 10 laps after that

Leaderboard end of Lap 51

Everyone should now be fueled to the finish. Jonny is long gone in the lead and lapped everyone up to 4th place Neil. Cobani in 2nd has a 22 second lead over Gadget, but the RX7 is charging now on new rubber. There is also a good fight between the TOR and GHH teams in 5th and 6th.

Leaderboard end of Lap 60

Gadget has reduced the 22 second gap to 12 seconds, but it doesn't look like it’ll be enough to steal second place with 1 lap to go……..

Lap 61 (final lap)

But what’s this we are hearing from the pit lane. The Team 2.6K are crowding around the telemetry screens in disbelief. Cobani has run out of fuel approaching the first tunnel just half a lap from the chequered flag…

..and there is the TMB Mazda powering past with a little toot toot of the horn as they go over the bridge. Oh what cruel luck, but I’m sure Gadget won’t be complaining

But the comfortable winner is Jonny again for CCR. Apart from the brush with the wall 10 laps from home he drove a faultless race for another 10 points in the Championship.

Gadget334
HP, worst case scenario race with just WIDFO if Rosen doesn't respond

I've a potential new team mate as replacement, if he's able to race is that ok? There is a few new drivers and teams so shouldn't be a problem surely?

That's still the best result so far for team 2.6K, and Cobani has promised not to make the same mistake again :trouble:

Oof! I actually felt a twinge of pain upon reading that last piece on team 2.6k. Tough luck! Sounds like a super exciting race.

We also have reserve drivers waiting in the wings if teams need spots filled

We would like to announce our official pit lane reporter for the N24 and all things leading up to it.

He may be asking around to find out what teams and drivers are thinking, asking for interviews with drivers etc

So please welcome Adam Weller to the N24 team as our first official reporter and journalist

check out his page here: https://www.facebook.com/AdamTheMotorsportJourno?fref=ts

Welcome, Adam Weller, to the fiercest virtual race ever organized.

The Green Hell in pixels!

Haha! since we seem to be juggling 5 names here, why don't I go ahead and get in the Corvette seat one race weekend early? I'm sure Team Georgia and NSPR's lawyers and accountants can work the money out, we'll all be racing, and all will be well.

OK Tati - go and drive for someone who needs the points. Enjoy. Thanks for wearing the badge :)

I should have said the names I gave were provisional because most have now said they probably can't make it.

So for this weekend.

I (JSB) am unlikely to attend and this would have been the only one remaining I could have done.

AllenDK29 probably can't this weekend.
Knukken is probably out for the series
Dee probably can't get on in time (and probably never will)
Hoolio possible but not sure.

What I suggest you do is if you have people queuing up to race put them in either of the NSP floater cars. It's quite possible we will have 1 or none this weekend. We have always been flexible to help with numbers but if slots are filling up give them to people who are likely to be around more and also may race in the N24.

Cheers
Mark

I'm confused. So does NSPR have enough drivers this weekend without me or not? Because I made a commitment and will keep it if needed. If I am not needed then I will drive for TG so they don't have to skip a race.

Most of None shall pass said "maybe" for this weekend and it turns out most probably can't make it. However I'm saying that team Georgia's need is probably greater than ours so it's ok to drive with them if you want to Tati. NSP were only ever in it to make up the numbers and could never guarantee our attendance. Equally you are welcome to stick with the BMW.

Either way is fine with us Tati. It's your call, points are not a major concern for TG.

It took me a while, but I'm over it. :) I'm ready for the Forest. Brilliant race report Gadget. 👍

Looking forward to a return to the track on Saturday and taking on those Lotii!

Who else is pumped for the race this weekend?

I'm ready for this weekend, or at least I will be if Nin sends me his setup! :D I'll also have a Deep Forest preview up for tonight or tomorrow... :)

Don't worry, I'll send it sometime tomorrow, haven't got access to the PS3 at the moment, but I will tomorrow.

Also hoping to continue my podium record in every race I've finished :D

Another great recap! By the way, while testing a bit we realised that the pit entry is pretty special here.. how will we handle the lines there? Slowing down enough to keep inside the lines on the way in feels dangerous so I thought I'd ask.

Did anyone give an answer to this?

Also, how many laps will there be on saturday? somewhere round 95?

ok so the social media side of things are starting to shape up

Deep Forest Preview:

After an exciting round of racing at Grand Valley Speedway, the N24 Car Selection Series moves on to Deep Forest Raceway. Concrete Climax Racing (memto89 and jonnyb1990) won both races last time out after their switch to the lightweight Lotus Elise RM. Their success in the opening two rounds means they will be the team to beat this weekend at the 2.2 Mile track. However, they will have some new competition this weekend, with several new teams showing an interest in the rapidly growing CSS.

The former CCR car, the NOMAD Lamborghini Diablo, will be used by new entrants Team High Adrenaline Rush. The teams drivers (Nin-Chin, duke_adam46 and long-haired-lout) are all WEC regulars, and the Lamborghini has good pace around Deep Forest. Nin-Chin and Adam will be representing the team on Saturday.

The Nissan R32 TC is also set for use, as Poland24 Racing will be entering with the driving team of GTPL_Plotnik, GTL_lucas and Revetion. Plotnik is a front runner in the GTE class in WEC, and though his teammates are yet to make a name for themselves on GTPlanet, you can be sure that Poland24 will be right up there on Saturday evening.

Gothic Racing Empire will be the third new team joining the series at Deep Forest, where they will be using the Lexus IS-F RM. The team consists of The_proffs, xNikodemusx and Attrapp. Proffs and Niko will be racing this weekend.

Micantony looked set to withdraw Team Georgia from the series after both ANFD and RacinJake had to end their season prematurely. Fortunately for Mic, eDirtyTati of None Shall Pass volunteered to switch from her BMW M3 GTR, and take the wheel of the Chevrolet Corvette ZO6 RM instead.

I caught up with Tati earlier this week to discuss her move.

Q: "What caused you to move over to Team Georgia? Was it patriotism, or perhaps dissatisfaction with the BMW?"

A: "My move to TG was purely for the sake and integrity of the CSS series. Micantony reached out to me at Gadget's behest because they were going to be forced to withdraw from the series due to a lack of drivers. As a matter of fact, Mic was the only driver left. Obviously we want as many teams in as possible so I couldn't watch a team get lost if I could help it.
I was more than satisfied with the car over at NSPR, as a matter of fact, it's my favourite car in the entire game so it breaks my heart to step out of it after finally getting the opportunity to race it in a serious league. That being said...'MURRICA!!!! I'm a huge fan of the RM 'Vettes, and even though it's lacking in straight line grunt due to BOP, it can handle itself in the twisties. Hopefully that wide butt can keep some competitors behind us on the narrow tracks."

Q: "Are you looking forward to your Team Georgia debut at the upcoming Deep Forest race?"

A: "I'm definitely looking forward to the race. Deep Forest isn't my favourite track by far, but it's a proper old-school track with some pretty weird off-camber turns that make for a fun challenge."

Team Motion Blur have also boosted their ranks with the return of Pluxtheduck. Plux will be returning from his new University just for the race. I caught up with him to discuss his series debut.

Q: "After missing the first two rounds of the series, do you feel confident of a good performance at Deep Forest?"

A: "I am confident of a good performance at Deep Forest. It's a track I know well and have had good success at before with a win at the WEC Season 1 opener there in the LMP class. The RX-7 had good pace there during the pre-season and I have heard encouraging things from the rest of the team about the performance of the car against our main rivals."

Q: "Will you be competing in the remainder of the series?"

A: "I will not be present for Round 4 as my team mate Geth will be taking to the track for his run in the series. However, I shall be back for the series finale at the Nürburgring where the car felt excellent in pre-season and set some very impressive times."

Q: "Who do you think your main competitor will be on Saturday?"

A: "Well going on previous form no one can say CCR won't be the ones to catch. Their form has been very impressive and their mistakes rare... I think with some luck though I could take the fight to their least experienced driver James (Jammyozzy)... but he is very fast."

All in all, the Deep Forest races are shaping up to be very exciting indeed. With ten strong teams entered so far, the N24 Car Selection Series is rapidly becoming one of the biggest series on GTPlanet! 👍

Great write up Adam :)

Yes very nice write up Adam, hopefully the new kids on the block will be able to challenge for some of the lower points at least. 👍

Speaking of that would it not make sense to start the points tally from scratch? If there is new teams driving in the N24 then they will be at a distinct disadvantage points wise and since car selection in N24 is the prize they're disadvantaged there too.

Plus there's new teams and cars on track so it is essentially a new series. Why not add 2 more races, move the Nurb race to the end and start fresh so all teams on a level playing field?
