Well, that didn't take long. CNN Money is reporting that a Ford spokesperson made a comment that said the new Mustang could potentially top the Hellcat's horsepower output. Reports of up to 750 horsepower are out, along with being as light as 3,500lbs, and the number could be out for real soon.

Take it with a grain of salt, but the possibly is entirely there, and definitely reachable.

I'm really hoping this doesn't turn out to be true, I rather that the SVT Mustang doesn't get anymore hp than it has now and instead; Ford just tries to make that hp more usable or something.

There's nothing preventing them from doing both things.
This basically. As it sits, I believe the Mustang is already the lightest of the bunch, and if the rumours are true the weight drop would be a dramatic improvement. Even more so now with the IRS and potentially more power.

If Ford pulls this off, it could potentially trump both the Camaro and the Challenger even more than it already does.

Dodge apparently didn't learn from Chevrolet when the first Camaro came out; Ford responded immediately with the new Mustang by upping the GT500 as a middle finger to them. Seems they may be doing it again to Dodge.

But, great as it sounds, I'd prefer Ford start focusing elsewhere. The GT500 just eats through the rears.

I entirely agree with you. But if the new suspension is as good as they say it is, maybe the extra power won't be a bad thing after all. It's just a "we're gonna have to wait and see" kinda thing right now.

There isn't much a nice suspension can do when you're limited to road tires. 750hp would just be stupid. GT500 syndrome, if you will.

Yeah, but this car, at least prototypes, have been see with meat as big as 315's. That's a pretty fat tire, but 750hp would be pushing that I guess.

Realistically though, just about anything over 450hp on street tires is going to light them up.

It's amazing the mustang can climb in price so quickly without mention (for the most part).

If you really think 315s are big enough to use the word meat then I'm not sure you are actually into muscle cars. :trouble:

RWD/450hp and 315s is about as solid as the BRZ/FRS.

I hope Dodge and Ford offer some sort of driving school package with these cars, especially if the price is somewhat accessible to average Joe's or else you're gonna have a lot of inexperienced drivers wrapping these 700+hp monsters around trees.

Not saying money can buy driving skill (as seen by guys crashing Ferrari's, Lambos, etc.) but these will be a lot cheaper and have more HP.

A few things need to be noted here....this is not the car we are expecting the big 700+ horsepower from. This one is supposedly the GT350R, a road car similar to the Z/28. Experts are expecting the new high revving engine derived the from the Coyote 5.0 but with higher displacement and a flat plane crank to pump out over 500 horsepower N/A.

So we are definitely getting more than one performance model and Ford is hunkering down on the whole circuit car thing.

I dont like the front bumper... At all. I hope thats just a mule one. The previous test mules gave me hope for aggresive pure muscle look but in those new pic, it looks like it is slapped with japanese tuner bumpers.

The CNN silver rendering though

I love the muscular shape of that mule. It looks retro in shape, but not retro in overall design.

I wouldn't count on it. Eating through the rears regardless if you get on it or not has been an issue since the GT 500 came back on the market several years ago.

It starts with 14" and 15" rotors, either with 4 piston or 6 piston calipers, but those look bigger.
