So, it's unfair for Driver A to get taken out by Driver B, who isn't competing in the current round of the Chase. But, the only reason that Driver B was out of the Chase is because Driver B was intentionally wrecked by Driver A in the previous round, after Driver A had already advanced past that round?

That sounds about right.

It's why I'm glad Joey didn't advance. He needed to know how Kenseth felt at Kansas, and now he does.

You mean when Logano had a run on Kenseth and Kenseth had to both block and get around lapped cars? In that case, at least Logano could slip it under the radar as a racing incident. Kenseth just straight up rammed him.

I guarantee nobody cares about whether it was intentional or not. In the end, it happened and we know why.

If Joey had passed Matt at Kansas the same way that Jimmie passed Brad at Texas, no one would have complained at all about anything.

5 pages of race discussion and not a single mention of who won the race. All I see is an argument over who deserves to be in the last round of a completely stupid playoff system.

10 minutes reading/posting and not one attempt to go to NASCAR.com? :D

So i finally saw the end of the race; here are some of my notes:

-Mother Nature, 🤬 you, don't ruin miami.

-Feel bad for joey and kurt; seemed that they had great cars and speed but just had the worst of luck. But very proud of kurt for overcoming adversity through the whole year after "she" nearly ended him. And joey for accomplishing what was his best season in his career.

-Congrats to the final 4 heading to miami especially kyle and truex jr.; what a hell of an year for those two, and i like all the 4 guys so im rooting for them all. :p

-And of course, congrats to dale jr. On his win and a big thank you to nascar fans that waited 6 hours of mother natures bull:censored: to finally go racing 👍:)

On to crown a champ in miami we go

And to think if the Chase didn't exist, Gordon would already have 7 championships...

If there's one thing we can all agree on in this thread, it's that nothing is certian until it actually happens. Remember back to Vegas in 2014. Everybody was thinking Jr. was going to win that race.

Then we found out that he ran out of gas and the #2 ended up winning.

That's dealing in what-ifs. Without the chase, those final ten races each season would have gone differently because drivers wouldn't have been fighting for ten races to win a championship.
I would hope the drivers are giving it everything they've got every lap of every race. A championship fight shouldn't change that.

It's a great final four for me. We have
-the defending champion here to cement his legacy
-the man who rallied from broken legs and took the sport by storm in the summer
-a journeyman's chance at glory after being fired just two years ago.
-finally, a legend who is trying to go out a champion.
Stories write themselves.

Take out the defending champion and it's perfect. Of course, in the eyes of the fans, if Dale Jr replaced Harvick, they'd all be mad with the craziness. Of course, he got eliminated by Harvick so he didn't have a shot at this round anyway, although looking at it now, with him winning last night, he would have been in if he was in contention instead of, well.. yeah...

How big of a story would that be if "defending champion" would instead have been "son of a legend finally gets his chance to be on top of the sport"?

I'm not a fan of stats because they mean little especially when you consider getting caught up in accidents, mechanical problems, unforeseen circumstances, experience etc but here are the Homestead stats for the final 4.

Jeff Gordon - Average finish 10.56 in 16 starts

Kevin Harvick - Average finish 7.57 in 14 starts

Kyle Busch - Average finish 23.1 in 10 starts

Martin Truex Jr. - Average finish 10.0 in 10 starts

Not looking good for Kyle stats wise but I've seen the 18 do some amazing things in a race car and that's why I am a fan. I've been impressed by his maturity level as of late. Hope he can pull it off. More so as a general FU to the current chase format. People who don't think he deserves it, do you think Harvick does after his little stunt in Talladega? People change. I bet you'd see a different Kyle if he went all the way.

I had no idea Kyle's stats at Homestead were that bad. If Kyle were to win it, he would have absolutely earned it with what he had to do to even make the chase after missing nearly half the season due to injury. I'm fine with him winning it. Jeff Gordon is on his retirement tour, and I don't know if anyone expected him to make it this far in the Chase. There's a feel-good story there as well. 4-time champion in retirement season wins 5th title on way to retirement. I'm fine with him winning it. Then there's Truex Jr, who got the short end of the stick at MWR after their cheating scandal in 2013, he's racing for a 1 car team based out of Colorado, which in and of itself is a major underdog position. I'm fine with him winning it.

Then there's Kevin Harvick. Sure, he's the reigning, defending champion... but he hasn't earned his spot in the last two rounds of the chase. The stunt he pulled at Talladega should not have been allowed to happen to begin with, and with that he shouldn't have advanced in the chase.

Sure, Truex and Busch didn't win any chase races, but at least they didn't wreck the field to secure their place in it. I'd rather have seen Kurt or Carl as the fourth contender in the final race.

The 4, 18 and the 24 will have 3 teammates helping them and the 78 is all by himself. I think this is going to be a crazy race. Will Harvick wreck the car if he wins?
