Just saw the Napa Commercial:

"Gnomes are magic!"

 No Jr, what you were smoking was magic.

There's going to be no mention of it by the media but Erik Jones just hit an unnprotected wall head-on coming off of turn 4.

Forgot to mention this earlier but someone gave me a VIP pass for today's race. When it's VIP parking, access to a suite, Neon Garage, pit road AND roof access, I just had to go. Peons like me normally don't get to experience something a little more upper crust.

Takeaways from today:
1. Even with a VIP parking pass, you're still parking on dirt and rocks. Not a good thing when you have just replaced a windshield earlier in the morning. I did save some time getting home from prior years but not as much.

2. Neon Garage is something any NASCAR fan should go to at LVMS. It's like going to an aquarium, being able to watch the Sprint Cup teams work on their cars. Obviously, there's only so many windows which means certain drivers will have a gaggle of people trying to look and take photos. By far, Gordon's area was the most crowded. A hiccup: there's only one direct way into Neon Garage, a very long tunnel with two sets of stairs. I went there about two hours before the green flag and left a little after noon.

3. Pit road is pretty neat. You get to see the pit crews roll in their equipment and cars enter and exit the track. What I found fascinating is the setup of each pit box. The team with money had TV screens all over the place and cushy chairs. Two teams had scuffed up boxes with one TV, seats worn and torn and dirty looking gauges. The contrast is quite startling between the have and have nots.

4. The suite itself was nothing too fancy. A small bar, free drinks and some decent food. Someone needs to tell LVMS they need to make more pulled pork and less chicken. The track might be on the West Coast but running out of pulled pork is just sad. Had to settle with hot dogs. In terms of sound, you're pretty much isolated from the outside world save from the call from the track announcer.

5. As for the roof, nice view but it was too hot today (it's always too cold or too hot at LVMS every year). Absolutely no shade either and no seats. I stayed up there the entire race, however. Captured a few nice vids including the Dillon/Blaney battle at the end. That was a blast to watch from up there!

Will post a few things when I get around to it.

As much as I hate to say it, another top driver will get hurt hitting an unprotected wall before SAFER barriers are on every inch of every sanctioned track inside and out.

Really good camera work right there, most people would have missed the crash or would be shaking their camera
Being on the roof helped since my camera zooms slowly. That and many years of going to LVMS told me that Turn 4 is where to focus on, especially on a restart.

Got the finish too.

So is Gordon on one of his bad luck turn outs again this season. Three race weekends now and three accidents that have ruined his car...call me cynical but it's one of his every other year bad luck starts, which is a bad way to end a career if it goes on.

He seems to be. Bad start to his final season. Tracks are giving him gifts for his retirement, drivers are giving him the gift of crashing.

So much for that tribute of respect bs they did during Daytona Fox pre-race. Oh Gordon you fool, they were always out to get you.

Let Gordon win the Chase this year after having a terrible regular season, and the outcry against the Chase system from Gordon fans will disappear.

"Greatest system ever!"

"Helps make sure the best driver isn't screwed by bad luck early in the year"

"Kept Harvick/Logano/Johnson from just riding around collecting points those last few races!"

That's something I was thinking too. After getting shafted multiple times by the Chase, he finally wins when he really doesn't deserve it. All he has to do is win a race and he's pretty much guaranteed a spot

Wow, a decent shot of the flyover for once.

Hoping one of the two JGR cars can get it done today. I say two because, lets face it, Ragan isn't going to be anywhere near the front at the end.

I love that Edwards drag commercial!

But there's 3 JGR cars excluding Ragan
