What boggles my mind is they just now applied this penalty? Long after everyone has stopped talking about that race, now comes this penalty?

NASCAR posted a story yesterday saying there was still no results from the Fontana confiscations then today they came out with the news.

Ryan Blaney was injured in a bull riding accident. Landon Cassill to replace him.

Dale Jr got the loudest ovation, obviously.

Hamlin got a loud reaction, but it was mixed. There were apparently some people at the track that weren't fans of his. Of course, most of the crowd probably traveled up from NC, like I did. A Richmond crowd would probably give a better indication of his home-town popularity.

Gordon's reaction was pretty positive overall. I think those that disliked him in his early days have either softened up to him over time (especially since Dale Sr's death), or have moved on from NASCAR.
I guess Hamlin has lost a little bit of support there? Because he was second loudest all three times I've been there, save for the first time (In 2010 when Mark Martin was everybody's other favorite driver).
Going to be interesting to see if Kyle will be so wildly hated as he usually is in the fall.

Cool. Offroad racing is awesome. Robby Gordon, Justin Lofton, Jimmie Johnson all have offroad racing roots. SST is cool to watch in person. Robby Gordon has done a good job with the series. Biffle is big into it too. Would be cool to see him out there.

Whoa, hold on. Kyle Busch actually was in one of these races?

I wonder when Hendrick will figure out how to get their shifters to not break off. I had thought that would be a problem left in 2014 .

Apparently microscopic holes were drilled into the tires which NASCAR was unable to detect. So they were taken to an outside lab and found out after a considerable time had passed. Many teams were said to have been doing it, particularly Harvick, even last year. Newman and maybe some others persisted with the trick even after NASCAR was confiscating tires for analysis. The big penalty will force Newman to take big chances on setup in hopes of a win to get into the Chase. :)

I'm guessing these Microscopic holes were made to increase grip?

Essentially, yes. They would let out air in such a fashion as to increase contact patch during the run. This is cheating of the highest order, right up there with Chad Knauss and Smokey Yunick.

From what I understand, it would only bleed air out if the tire built up enough pressure to expand the hole that was drilled.

I'm surprised the penalty wasn't more severe since tires and body are the two areas that aren't suppose to be altered.

I find annoying that I can't watch NASCAR on free-to-air TV any more:mad:

Here are the three possibilities for Keselowski's car in the All-Star Race.

I'm hoping the middle one wins.
