Tony Stewart didn't buy his way into the 2009 Daytona 500 when he started his new team. He ended up making the field and despite the race being cut short, managed an 8th place finish.

Surprised they didn't acquire points from another team, like most large new teams do for Daytona.

Who could they get them from? aside from the 36, I can't think of a team that shut down that would have been worth trying to get the points. I'm more surprised they didn't move the 20's points over, seeing Matt can has a chance to use the champions provisional.

Well they could've but given how Matt has always qualified for a race, he's never really needed it even on his worst days.

Depends on how good they are with the brake pedal.

Laughed hard at that Furnik, anyway, @Omnis congrats on your friend getting into ARCA but ask him this, "Do the brakes actually work in arca?"

Ok I didn't understand what you guys were on about so I had to look up arca brakes. Now I know. You could've explained it sooner and I would have laughed.

Does anyone know the title and artist of the song that comes on usually before comercials, and it just came on before the 2nd practice just started? Sounds like a distorted guitar playing through a scale, with a wah pedal.

Kinda wanna know how to play it.

News from Jayski on the day (thus far) that seems important:

1-NASCAR finally has had enough of the complaints from all sides as they are no longer issuing mandatory minimum pressures in tires. Goodyear will still recommend a minimum, but Chad Knaus won't be suspended if the tire busrt because it had 7 psi.

2-Tony Stewart desided to throw a hissy fit because HE didn't weigh-in before practice, then HE decided to disregard NASCAR's orders to bring the car in and get weighed. Seriously, does he just like looking like a child at times?

3-Paul Menard will start the Sprint Unlimited on pole. Question now is can he do anything with it.

Menard was always a competent plate driver in the Busch series days, but just seems nowhere in Cup. Ever. Has he even had any top 5's??

He's decent, not consistently but he's not terrible either.

You guys are right. I'm watching this ARCA race and it's crash after crash. Every time they show the in-car camera, the guys get hit and then they just mash the throttle. Why?

ARCA is the lowest level that runs at speedways, the talent level just isn't usually high enough to run there though

What is the farm system for NASCAR then? Like, you know how F1 takes from GP3, etc?

Pat was fastest in qualifying but seems to be stuck around 18th. How do drivers gain any ground with only 200 laps where there's cautions every 10 laps? Crazy.

Sort of, it's its own series, but drivers moving over from different cars will use it to get experience at tracks like Daytona, Danica and JPM ran their first Stock Car races in ARCA

Without counting the local stuff, as there's just so much it's difficult to give a specific progression system with all of them, it's...

NASCAR K&N Series > (ARCA) > Camping World Truck Series > Xfinity Series > Sprint Cup Series

I remembered why I don't like stock car racing. Cautions. Can't stand watching cars go double digits in a circle with all the commercials.
