So it sounds like group qualifying isn't working at Daytona...why call the system a farce if it works at 90% of the schedule? Ohh right, people love to complain. As Talladega showed last year and Daytona is backing up apparently, group qualifying doesn't work on superspeedways. I don't know if copying how Indy does it is a better idea, but full group qualifying isn't gonna work...at four races out of 36.

Because plate racing. Which is pack racing and totally retarded idea for plate tracks.

I would not even have qualifying honestly with the duals. Just make the duals the qualifying session. No reason to crash cars at the unlimited, crash them in qualifying, crash them in the duals, and then crash them again in the 500. That's a lot of money lost by teams with this format and pretty reckless

That sums up Edward's Speedweeks from a few years ago.

You are 5 minutes too late.

That sums up Edward's Speedweeks from a few years ago.
A team like Hendrick or JGR can deal with that, but the smaller teams have nightmares keeping a car in race condition. Look at what happened to Swann racing last season. Wrecked both cars in practice, and they barely had time to get them ready for the duals. This doesn't have to happen

So, one wreck and a bunch of drivers acting like idiots makes the system flawed? Kurt's idea of a 4 lap average would make qualifying longer than it was previously, and no one wants that. They don't need to do solo runs, but they also don't need to have the entire field out there at once. Of course, if someone is going to drive like an idiot, no amount of cars on the track is going to prevent that. Maybe even enforce a rule that if you're out of the pits and stop, your qualifying is over because there should absolutely be no reason to park it on the track when a session is live.

With the duals, any form of qualifying is totally useless imo. Either have the duals or have the qualifying that we currently do

Yeah, I've never liked the idea of qualifying for qualifying.
That's why I don't like this format at this event. All they are doing is running at speed to basically set positions for the Duel heats. Either way, there is danger with putting the cars on track, but there's really no value in my eyes to running in packs to decide where to start for the Duels and in which heat they will race in.

Instead of qualifying on this day, they should run a 2 hour practice session. Then they can set the Duels based on that practice session.

But then the practice session in itself would be considered qualifying. I like the idea of a random draw for the Duels (similar to the Unlimited Shootout Clash) and eliminating qualifying runs entirely.

Still needs to be a way to set the lineup of the Duels, and owners points isn't fair to set by. Last year's points should not mean anything once that season is over.

Drawing would be a good idea. I'd say that they should fan vote, but that would mean either Dale Jr., JJ, or some other ultra popular driver would win the Duel pole every time. Maybe do some sort of pit crew challenge like is done in the All-Star race? I don't know. Or maybe, they could put everyone who needs to race their way in into their own special heat (say 25 laps or so) to determine which of them will race and then throw them into the main Duels. Some of these are just random ideas that popped into my head, but then again, I'm just a fan.

No fan vote. Just have a crew chief pull a number. No need for any gimmicks as the sport already has enough gimmicks. Just draw a starting number and that's it.

Could of predicted the crash fest and chaos...it's Daytona. Dega seems to be more controlled for some reason not saying wrecks don't happen, but Daytona seems to just bring it out so easily. Also granted it's the start of the year and after a couple months of not racing, some people are just a bit to eager to be back in the car...

Dega is a lot wider than Daytona which is what causes the chaos to happen easier imo.

NASCAR could have a great system for this race where guys have a legit shot to make the show. I see no reason why the duals couldn't become the sole qualifying method. Line them up by last season's owners points and let the drivers go for it one time rather than having to go for it in a qualifying session then 4 days later go for it again in a heat race only to have to go for it a 3rd time in the 500. Have the duals a week before the race to give guys time who wrecked but made it to get everything right for the 500

No previous year's owners points at all. New year = new start. There should not be a need for previous year's points to determine who can or cannot make a race.

It should be the fastest 43 make the field with no exceptions.
