No previous year's owners points at all. New year = new start. There should not be a need for previous year's points to determine who can or cannot make a race.

It should be the fastest 43 make the field with no exceptions.

That would piss off a lot of the fans if Jr, JJ, or Smoke missed the 500 because of a crash. That pisses off the owners and sponsors too
 
What makes you think they don't get pissed off now at present when their car crashes? Pretty sure the Qualifying format isn't changing that.

It's different when they're not getting the opportunity to race. People pay a boatload of money to see junior race. If he's not racing, they just paid for something they didn't get.
 
Kinda hard to crash a car in single car, restrictor plate qualifying. Not saying it couldn't happen, but the odds a very slim.

As for those paying to see Jr race, Oh well that's racing. Results from last year should not determine what happens this year, no matter how popular ANY driver is.

But why have the duals if there's single car qualifying? If that was the case, then yea let the fastest 43 get in.

My format would have the duals, line them up by owner points from the previous season top 25 locked in and let everyone else race in with the results being qualifying as well

For the same reason NASCAR has the All-Star race prior to the Coke 600 and indycar has Carb day, the pit competition and now that Road course race before the Indy 500: Building hype for the main event.

My point is: single car qualifying is qualifying for a qualifying race...that's basically pointless on a plate track where dumb luck is just as much a determinate as anything and pretty much tears up cars and costs teams money just to probably wreck them again in the 500. I can tell you that I would watch the Daytona 500 regardless of how many heat races and qualifying happened. I'd be more than happy to watch if they randomly drew starting grid and had them do backwards laps for the second half of the race

Except this is different. The 500 Qualifying is ONLY for the front row, the Duals are for the rest of the positions. This has been going on for a long time and no one has had a problem with until NASCAR for some reason thought it wonderful idea to implement this Group Qualifying, which turn it into a Qualifying race for two qualifying races. THAT is stupid.

Oh I know. I didn't like qualifying before it went to group format for the 500. I think it should be either the duals or a group qualifying session. Pick one

I'll flip to the NHRA for a second since most of the fans pay to see John Force race. I remember one of the races that he DNQ'd, and he didn't throw a huge tantrum over it. He sucked it up and cheered on the rest of the team. Even as a Jr. fan, I agree with this. The point is to let the fastest cars run, not let a bunch of start and parks in. Though to be fair, if some of those on start and park teams didn't even get a chance to be locked in now, they'd all be unemployed.
 
Oh my god, that was the funniest thing I've seen all day. The voice just reminds me of Cartman or someone off of South Park. :lol:

Including the last race which will cost him the championship, causing Jeff to go Mike Tyson on Bowyer after the race. :crazy: NASCAR in their "infinite" wisdom will put Gordon on probation until Daytona, but since this is his last full time season, Gordon cements his legacy by buying out NASCAR and forcing Brian France to work in the concession stands, seeing that is all he is mentally capable of. :dunce:

If Bowyer actually does that, then who in their right mind is going to give him any ounce of respect besides his team? Bowyer always whines when he crashes. Oh well, rather have him than Keselowski any day.

Doesn't that mean they can put full tape on the cars due to the cold?
 
The last time it was this cold around speedweeks, the track came apart in turn 2.

The problem I see with the fastest 43 is there is nothing stopping or minimizing the "go and go home" guys from investing everything they have for 1 flat out lap, and I think the "go then go home" guys are pathetic, clearly just there to make money, that needs to stop,

Isn't there a dual race happening sometime in the next 24 hours?
