Sam should have went to sports car racing instead of NASCAR. Indy veterans do better with that jump.

I can understand not going to sports cars right away as he was the most competitive on ovals in IndyCar, so it only made sense to go to another mostly oval series. I think the best time for him to have gone into sports cars would have been after he lost his full time Nationwide ride after 2013 as by that point he seemed to have road courses figured out at that point (they now seem to be his strong point).

I think there still is a chance for him to make the leap as he's still fairly young (36) and still has some name recognition. In fact, I could see Ganassi picking him up for one of the GT cars.

At the top of the hour, NBC Sports Network is set to show the K&N Pro Series East race around Watkins Glen. I've basically grown up as a road racing fan, especially among GT/Sportscar/Endurance racing. So I'm glad seeing some road racing in a series like NASCAR.

Also, there's not a thread for sprint cars (at least I don't think there is, and it's not very active if there is one) and since he has raced Xfinity/Trucks, but Kevin Swindell had a nasty crash at Knoxville last night and was airlifted to a hospital. Last I knew he was undergoing surgery 4 hours ago. Not sure what the injury is though. He was awake and alert when the safety crews got to him. Couldn't have been a serious injury since they waited about 8 hours before surgery was performed.

Video anywhere? Hope he's alright.

Here's a writeup with a video. Prayers out to him and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Michigan. A track that Roush Racing has typically been strong at....

21) 6 Trevor Bayne AdvoCare Ford 37.484 192.082
23) 16 Greg Biffle Ortho Ford 37.536 191.816
31) 17 Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Zest Ford 38.017 189.389

One of these cars is not like the others....

Don't really like Keselowski but I was looking forward to this throwback scheme.

It's been a while since "Midnight" as Rusty had nicknamed it, had been on track.

It's much better than any of the cars that had the photo of the beer on the side of it.

"Midnight" was actually a particular chassis. Wallace won a ton of short track races in the mid-90's driving that specific car. How it became the nickname for that paint scheme over the years, I don't know.

Would any of these of this races have been...not in the day time?

The caution was more for the bodywork that came off of JWT's truck than it was for him and Crafton doing the tandem drift.

There's not too many times where a incident involving JWT involves a save.
