Way too specific predictions:

Chicago - Kenseth
New Hampshire - Keselowski
Dover - Johnson
Charlotte - Truex Jr.
Kansas - Edwards
Talladega - Dale Jr.
Martinsville - Kyle Busch
Texas - Johnson
Phoenix - Harvick
Homestead - Kenseth

Round 1 eliminations: Menard, McMurray, Gordon, Bowyer
Round 2 eliminations: Newman, Hamlin, Keselowski, Kurt Busch
Round 3 eliminations: Truex Jr., Edwards, Dale Jr., Logano
Homestead Results: Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Harvick, Johnson

I think Gordon makes it to Round 2, and if he can somehow avoid elimination at Dega, then I could see him win Martinsville, make the final 4, but finish last out of the 4

Interesting you have Jr. out after round one.
I actually have Jamie staying in final 8 just because round 2 has Charlotte and Talladega, two of his best tracks.

True, but round 1 has Chicago and I've never seen Jr. be all that great there. Loudon and Dover he does better at but it won't be enough to carry him further into the chase.

I also am guessing that some of the favorites (Gordon, Dale Jr., Kyle Busch) will get knocked out early because of pit mistakes, etc.

Some knowledge to spice up the day: I recall that Jr. was 3rd there. Once. 2011, to be precise. So there's that. The possibility of an upset always exists. :dopey:

He also won at Chicagoland in 2005, but his record there as of late isn't great.

A lot of his bad luck was also in the COT...with Lance Mcgrew...Gosh.

Swear everytime I saw the guy, he looked like he had less life in him then Spoiled Food.

I have two thoughts on this year's Chase:
1. If Dale Jr. wins the championship, the internet will explode and say that he sucks and couldn't win a championship without this format in place.
2. If a driver who doesn't have a win wins the championship, the internet will explode and say that the driver (or drivers) with a win got robbed.

That would be my preferred outcome of the ones that seem possible, which is odd since I can't stand Kyle 99% of the time.

As much as I'm a fan of Jeff Gordon, I don't want to hear all the nonsense that would come with him winning Homestead if he's not in championship contention as it's his final race.

I'll take Dale Jr to win the race, KyBu to win the title. Bring on the tears. :lol:

So it's Chase for the Cup time again. Whether you're excited about this time of year in NASCAR, or if you're one of the types who say "kill it with fire," like our RACECAR in regards to the Chase, NASCAR's version of a playoff will get its shine on starting this weekend. Here is the Chase schedule in case you're considering following any of the races or maybe plan on travelling to these events:

* Sep. 20: Chicagoland
* Sep. 27: New Hampshire
* Oct. 4: Dover
* Oct. 10: Charlotte
* Oct. 18: Kansas
* Oct. 25: Talladega
* Nov. 1: Martinsville
* Nov. 8: Texas
* Nov. 15: Phoenix
* Nov. 22: Homestead

Who'll win it all this year? We shall see starting this weekend. I'm glad my man Jeff Gordon made it in, but I don't like his chances retiring a 5-time Cup champ. It will still be as competitive as any other Chase. I have no favorites or any spirited commentary on who'll win.

Congratulations to all Chase participants, and good luck to all finalists (drivers and teams) in their respective championship pushes.

Still a couple days off, but weather in Joliet on Friday afternoon/evening for the truck race doesn't look too good. ~80%+ chance of rain/T-storms.

Saturday and Sunday look perfect though, weather-wise.

They would probably move the race to Saturday morning.
So I decided aganist including a Chase grid in this week's Factor as it is already clocking in at about 950 words without it (I try to stick between 750-1000), so here is my Chase Grid:
First round eliminations: Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman, Paul Menard, Martin Truex Jr.
Second round elminations: Brad Keselowski, Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch
So
Final Eight:
Jimmie Johnson,
Dale Earnhardt Jr.,
Joey Logano,
Kyle Busch,
Kevin Harvick,
Matt Kenseth,
Denny Hamlin,
Jamie McMurray.
Final Four, listed in Homestead order (Worst to Champion)
Denny Hamlin,
Matt Kenseth,
Kevin Harvick,
Joey Logano (Champion)

Likely, (if they can't run it on Friday night) it will be a Saturday double-header, run right after the XFinity race.

I probably won't be sticking around for it though.[/QUOTE]

Last year would prove them wrong, and thus put Kevin Harvick in the same area of suck and there are a few years of the regular chase that disprove that for both drivers.

Count me in on that.

Juniors worst track on the chase calendar by capita is Homestead. I think 2013 was his best finish there by far compared to any other year. So if there is any weak point in his chances it's that one track. It'd be nice to see him win (as a fan) but I doubt it.

Homestead is the same reason why Jimmie won't win the championship, even if he does make it to the last round of eliminations. He's never been all that good there.

Now that we've all come to the realization that NASCAR has changed the system to prevent Jimmie from tying Earnhardt and Petty.... :lol:

Johnson has only gone into Homestead needing to win once, in 2012. He was dominating and well on his way until first his crew screwed up, then he was just too aggressive going through the gears after he went off pit road

For some odd reason, I wouldn't mind seeing Johnson get that 7th title. I would be mad in seeing Logano winning his 1st though. Hate the kid.

Doesn't change the fact that it's not a good track for him.
