McLaren sounds awful, the TS050 is nowhere near as good as the TS040 and the Koegnigsegg's are the only other exception I forgot about.

the McLaren sounding bad is an opinion

and just because it doesn't sound as good as last year doesn't mean it sounds bad overall

anyway...

(I can go on)

But they shouldn't. I can't stand the artificial-ness of modern turbos. Ruins just about every engine. That clean, visceral roar of an NA engine is something that cannot be rid of from the automotive world. Race cars have to have a raw emotion to them, like the Corvette, 458, Porsche and Aston.

If I may have a minute of your time, I recorded this in 2012. Listen to the sound, nothing beats NA.

At the end of the day, there's still the matter of taste to keep in mind when talking about engine notes.

Bo
This is a great example of how far we've come with motorsport.

Engines are a fraction of the size, miles lighter, use probably 10% of the fuel that does, yet they kick out even more power and they can be pushed even harder.

We don't remind ourselves of it much, but motoring in general would be in a much poorer place if it wasn't for the technology we've seen developed in motorsport. We really have come on leaps and bounds.

Thats one way to see it, compared to the 70's and 80's I find motor sports has become too squeaky clean, relatively soulless and way too over complicated. And I'm not an even old geezer.
I'd rather watch Group-C, IMSA GTP, Can-Am or Turbo-Era F1 than those comparatively super efficient racecars of today.

Interestingly thats a modern phenomenon that is not only limited to motorsports.

You know, I've never watched a race and said "that was great, I just wish the cars were louder/sounded different". If your series depends on noise for some added entertainment value, your regs are broken. The enjoyment of seeing a race is the actual racing - anything else (sounds, smells, car design) is something on the side.

It's always hard to approach topics like this because everyone has their own unique reasons to love something. Every racing fan loves a good engine noise - but this whole "if it's quieter it's rubbish" nonsense, and simply being preoccupied by what each car sounds like instead of the actual entertainment, is, well, a bit odd.

Let's appreciate the fantastic technology and driving skill on display instead of getting grumpy about noises. It's good stuff.
Why do most things at Le Mans always happen at night when you wanna get some sleep for a couple of hours? :indiff:
It's the race's way of making sure you stay awake.

Commentator, are answering a question about having GT3 cars at Le Mans, with the other classes. They said, probably won't happen, since there's already 60 cars. But there could be a chance, that they could replace all the GTE cars. They said that GT3 cars were cheaper than the GTE cars. It would also open it up for more manufactures, like Nissian, BMW, Audi, and Bentley.

Commentator, are answering a question about having GT3 cars as well at Le Mans. They said, problem won't happen, but there could be a chance, that they could replace all the GTE cars. Which is silly as manufacturer support is banned in GT3.

Real quick can someone post the drinking game rules
Following on from @Bo last year, this is my current list of criteria for the GTP Le Mans Drinking Game:

~Tracy Krohn
~An LMP1 breaks down.
~Any time Rebellion are mentioned overtaking a Hybrid.
~Any reference to Garage 56.
~References to Ford's GT40. In any way.
~Fox Sports goes for an advert break.
~DHH goes on a twitter rant
~Every time an american pronounces "Mulsanne" as "Muhl-sane".

~Double (Less frequent)
~A LMP2 Ligier spins.
~A LMP1 hits an LMP2.
~A Porsche LMP1 hits a Porsche GTE.
~Tracy Krohn involved in an accident not his fault.
~Corvette & Aston Martin rivalry from GT1 referenced.
~Eurosport goes for adverts.
~Night time shot shows sparks flying from those stupid GTE diffusers.
~Any commentator mentions how this is better than F1. (stating the obvious though)
~Eurosport ad breaks cut commentary.
~Any reference to the last year of current LMP2 rules.

~Triple (rare)
~The CLM is shown at full racing speed.
~Tracy Krohn is shown overtaking for position.
~Mark Webber being mentioned as a #1 driver.
~DHH goes on a twitter rant that makes sense
~A GTE Ferrari isn't at fault for a crash it's involved in.

~Quadruple (get smashed m8)
~Someone says 2017 LMP2 regulations idea's are a good idea.
~Someone refers to IMSA 2017 regulations as "Dots Per Inch".
~You get a twitter shout-out.
~Someone mentions that thing called GT Academy
~Someone says the Nissan GTR LM was a success.
~Neville Haye's Eurosport commentary doesn't send you to sleep (I love the guy, hugely knowledgeable but his voice induces sleepiness)
~Eurosport commentators make "WOAHHHHHHHHHHH" sound effects.

After seeing the Japanese flag dispaly in the Toyota pit, I really hope they can pull this off for us Otaku/those with anime avatars

I'd say GT3 and GTE are racing each other to see who can self-implode first.

GTE is going to spiral out of control at some point, but GT3 is reaching the 'more expensive than it should be' point, so I don't think either is a solid option for the future.
