Wow... Danica placed 18th. Going to be VERY tough around a street course deep in the field. Tony Kannan and Dan Wheldon fared worse than Danica. Good luck to all entrants in tomorrow's race.

The IndyCar Series is on in Toronto right now. About sixteen laps complete with Dario Franchitti leading. I never realized how short this street course is.

[UPDATE] Paul Tracy got taken out by Helio Castroneves, and the fans in Toronto are booing like mad!

Honda Indy Toronto @ Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Race Results
Congratulations to Dario Franchitti for winning the Honda Indy Toronto. Even though none of my favorite drivers won today's race, it was a great race with plenty of action! Paul Tracy drove like a champion, and raced for the win until he and Helio Castroneves crashed out in a racing incident. Moronic Moraes, on the other hand, drove like an idiot and took out EJ Viso after the race ended. I repeat again, KV Racing Technology needs to fire that moron and run Paul Tracy full-time.

Wasn't a racing incident, it was the product of Helio holding up PT and the other drivers behind him trying to save his red wall tires. There was no way Tracy wasn't gonna try to get Helio when he ran wide.

Moronic Moraes, on the other hand, drove like an idiot and took out EJ Viso after the race ended. I repeat again, KV Racing Technology needs to fire that moron and run Paul Tracy full-time.

Moraes was giving Viso payback after he fudged up his wing which in turn caused that mess between him, Scheckter and Tags.

PT and Helio agreed that their crash was a racing incident. Neither blamed the other. Just hard racing between two veterans.

As for Moronic Moraes giving Viso payback... I'm sorry, but the moron wrecked his car and now his team has to spend time and money fixing the damage he caused. If the moron wanted payback, then he should've settled it face to face instead of trying to kill someone on the track. But then again, the moron is a coward who never admits when he makes mistakes. Moronic Moraes was too much of a coward to face Marco Andretti at Indy, and today he was too much of a coward to face EJ, Tomas, or anyone else.

And as for the 3 car crash with Tags, Tomas and the moron. The moron stupidly turned into Tomas, and Tags stupidly divebombed into them. Moronic Moraes and Tags were mainly at fault for that crash.

Franchitti, Briscoe, Power, Dixon, Wilson was the Top 5 in Toronto. Danica came in sixth after a terrible start in 18th. As I said, Danica Patrick may not be the toughest racer to pass, but I like her because she's more like one of the smartest racers.

Because Canadians love them some IndyCar Series racing, up next- Edmonton. From the city streets of beautiful Toronto (Blue Jays, Raptors, Maple Leafs, Argonauts country)... to an airfield course in Oilers' (the NHL team, not the old Houston Oilers of the NFL :)) country.

Didn't look like a racing incident to me, Helio was holding him up.

Most drivers these days never settle it face to face, and if they do they're usually shielded with their helmets and their crew members serving as backup.

And as for the 3 car crash with Tags, Tomas and the moron. The moron stupidly turned into Tomas, and Tags stupidly divebombed into them. Moronic Moraes and Tags were mainly at fault for that crash.

Moraes was trying to stay out of everybody's way, and that incident was certainly avoidable if Tags hadn't divebombed Moraeas and Sheckter.

This just in...

According to The Speed Report's Final Lap segment, and according to Speed's Robin Miller... the IndyCar Series will be heading to Barber Motorsports Park next season! I really think this may be the series' best chance to have some great American Southeast racing. Never mind that big oval miles east of Barber Motorsport Park- this is one of America's best and youngest road courses. Someone on YouTube replied to a comment I made praising the ICS racing at Barber, and someone said "Alabama's full of hicks." I'm like, so what? Quality American race course with plenty of European style.

I may do a video on YouTube regarding this topic. What do you make of the IndyCar Series giving Barber Motorsports Park a spin?

They need to go to Portland, better yet, bring back the Canadian triple crown and have a race at Vancouver or Mont-Tremblant.

Do any of you have picks for the Edmonton race? I tell you... I have VERY little experience knowing just what the Edmonton course is like. "Wind Tunnel" host Dave Despain liked the course when it first came along. But I have very little to talk about if this course will actually be a great course.

Who would I pick? I'm thinking Justin Wilson at Edmonton. How about you?

People, I'm sorry that I've been so off on my schedule. That race is next Sunday.

Horsepower boost

Rear tire ramps, sidepod extensions and wheel backing plates are previously announced team options for the 1.5-mile ovals on the IndyCar Series schedule, beginning this weekend at Kentucky Speedway.

Now add the mandatory removal of half-inch rear wing endfence wickers to provide efficient downforce, remove drag and improve the ability of a trailing car to follow more closely.

Combine those aerodynamic performance-related items with "overtake assist" capability and team engineers, race strategists and drivers will be exceptionally busy during the Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Red Baron and Edy's event weekend.

Honda Performance Development will introduce brief bursts of additional horsepower and 200 rpms (to 10,500 total) available to drivers through a button on the steering wheel - commonly referred to as push to pass - for the remainder of the season (four ovals, two road courses).

A 5-20 horsepower gain will be realized dependant on fuel setting for intervals calibrated on a race-by-race basis, according to HPD Race Team Manager Roger Griffiths. For Kentucky, drivers will have 20 presses for a duration of 12 seconds each available. HPD will update teams before each race weekend regarding parameters.

"If you're on the rich side, you get 5 horsepower because the engine already is producing close to its maximum, where you can get up to 20 horsepower if you're running lean," Indy Racing League senior technical director Les Mactaggart said. "It's to provide the driver, if they're already making a passing maneuver, an additional tool to complete the pass. It provides the teams options which they have to choose how they're going to run the race so it brings more strategy from a team aspect.

"Because of the architecture of the engine, you can't have the 100 horsepower that Champ Car had because you could just increase your boost levels on a turbocharged engine and that's how you get the extra power. When you're already producing 100 percent power with a normally aspirated engine, there isn't anything else other than spark advance to get more horsepower."

The system requires a simple ECU software alteration. After each use, there is a 10-second recharge blackout.

"We hope that the new Honda button feature will add a little spice to the racing; it gives the driver/team an additional tool to use during the course of the race that we believe will promote some additional overtaking with the added complexity in that the feature won't be available until the actual race so teams will have to experiment on the fly," Griffiths said.

Drivers this weekend also will have Firestone Firehawks with a new compound developed at a recent test at Chicagoland Speedway and compete on an asphalt surface recently grinded in Turns 2, 3 and 4 to provide more uniformity.

Utilized with other track-specific aero packages -- such as a minimum 12 degree rear wing flap angle for Kentucky, Chicagoland and Kansas -- the aero options potentially will create more overtaking opportunities by realizing additional downforce (grip). Chicagoland, for instance, was moved to the Kansas-Kentucky group of ovals that use the 12 degree flap angle (from 10 degrees). The only aero alteration for Twin Ring Motegi in September is the availability of wheel backing plates.

The aero options - used collectively or individually -- can be tailored to track conditions and driving style. The car's configuration will be allowed to differ between four-lap qualifications for the PEAK Performance Pole Award on July 31 and the Aug. 1 race under the lights.

"We had numerous conversations with drivers, team engineers and team managers and asked their opinions what needed to be done and these were chosen as the direction based on majority opinion," said Brian Barnhart, the Indy Racing League's president of competition and operations. "We've tried to give teams more options and tools, and they have choices now which downforce level they want to run both in qualifying and in race configuration.

"We focused on allowing those choices in downforce level to be done in an efficient manner. The rear tire ramps, sidepod extensions, wheel in-fills are all effective and efficient forms of downforce with minimal drag added. These are items the teams have always owned; they aren't items they needed to do any wind tunnel testing or straight line testing.

"Some people are going to run more downforce than others, which should make for better overtaking and passing opportunities on the racetrack."

Tony Kanaan, the 2004 IndyCar Series champion, is all for the options, which potentially will create more overtaking opportunities and excitement for spectators/TV viewers.

"We need to be able to race side by side, which is something that we didn't approve before - we thought it was kind of dangerous - but right now we're racing for the fans," said Kanaan, driver of the No. 11 Team 7-Eleven car for Andretti Green Racing. "I think it's positive."
Power 2 Pass is back! 👍

The IndyCar Series still run naturally-aspirated engines, don't they? They'll need some turbo power if they want to go back to the old (then) CART days before this unification.

You all will have to remember to watch Versus to see the remaining six races. Only two more road courses left- Mid-Ohio and Sears Point. But this Saturday night is the next round of the series is in FoolKiller country- Kentucky.

Final note... don't forget to check out my video on how I think the Indy cars will fare at Barber Motorsports Park when they make their debut there next season. It's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikAFfrV7p6s .

I don't really follow IRL that much but I can't understand why Paul Tracy can't get a drive he made loads of places in Toronto and Edmonton and seems better than most of the drivers on the grid, I know he's 40 something but he's a link to the glorious past of early 90's champcars.

I watched that race at the air port a couple of days ago on five, really late at night, it was on the program, 'sport on five' first champ car race i've seen, track looks interesting and thought it was a really good race :D, i've seen will power race in A1GP in the past and he was good then, lol glad hes still got it

Briscoe wins Kentucky by a nose ahead of Ed Carpenter and Tony Kanaan. Dixon faded from fourth to seventh in the final 20 :(

Second-fastest race in series history. 208mph average speed.

The last caution really changed the complection of the race with Dixon making a hash of the restart, by first jumping it then backing off. and Carpenter making a jump off the restart and making up the positions needed, Star of the race

Excellent race. Nice track for these cars and the setup changes helped make this a nailbiter at the end. Nice run for Carpenter. I was so hoping someone else could break the Penske / Ganassi stronghold.

Though with Briscoe running high for the last 5 laps you could see that he had the advantage at the line
