The front is interesting....personally I'd rather have an 1998-2003 model. There have definitely been worse than this though. The dashboard on this model is neat though as you can see all your different gauges etc right in the middle of an LED screen.

"The full-size SUV will have plenty of towing power and will include either a Pentastar V6 engine or a Hemi V8 engine with either 300 or 400 horsepower, respectively, notes Jalopnik. The eight-speed transmission will improve handling but still have the towing capability that people have come to expect from the Durango."

I agree. I was also going to say the boxy rear from the side should be arced in a little bit more.

Looks like just a facelifted exterior. Nothing major, not nessisary, but not unwanted.

The Dial-A-Gear system, didn't someone use that idea sixty years ago? At least it's not push buttons I guess.

There will be one problem with this car once it hits the road and I already know what it is.

The tail lights will be absolutely blindingly bright from up to 3 miles away. Blinding. And that's before the driver even hits the brakes. Approximately 17 miles is the distance at which the new Charger can be distinguished, and anything under 3 you'll have to squint if you value your eyeballs.

Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive... So it's a CVT with paddles, then? I'd rather keep my 1st gen(I still have it for off roading and work haul purposes) Although, the new interior is pretty cherry.

going by what you say, Every Automatic Transmission is a CVT...

The whole thing looks great, in my opinion. I'd never be in the market for an SUV but if I were this would be a strong contender.

I really wish the Ford Bronco would return...never going to happen. Especially in this form.

Wow, I love the way this thing looks. The front end is aggressive enough to look cool without being over the top and that interior is really nice. I reckon these would sell surprisingly well over here if they gave it a good diesel engine.

I think a Cummins swap for this would be a very popular mod. Either way, this is a definite win for Chrysler seeing as the Dart is doing absolutely terrible.

the VM will NOT make it to the durango. if they are really doing it, it will be about 2 years before they even debut it... The VM's priority right now is the Ram 1500 then the Mid-Upper trims of the Grand Cherokee. they simply dont have the capacity to put the diesel and 3 Models, especially if that third model is on the chopping block in 2-3 years.

Cummins is way too heavy. The Durango would not be able to handle it.

5.9 I6? Might still be too heavy though....not to mention the fact it wouldn't bolt up anyways. Totally impractical.

When people say diesel and Dodge in the same sentence, that's the first thing I think of.

I generally don't like Dodge's styling, nor that of Chrysler. It's too retro, they need some new ideas. Also, the Gear selector is copied straight from Jaguar-Land Rover.

The front end isn't that retro, that styling has been around for years. Every brand can be distinguished by keeping certain elements over time. What your saying is like creating entire new brand.

I guess what I'm saying is that Ameican manufacturers don't seem to have the same originality in styling as other brands, especially Chrysler. Look at Audi. They've developed a corporate face wich looks modern, and they can easily evolve it.

This is true.

When it comes to Design"Originality", Chrysler owns that department, even if it was Retro. plus no one cant really judge Chrysler design untill the NEW 200 has debuted.

Audi's design language has changed very little in principle for a couple decades now. The details have changed shape like the grilles and headlights but overall the scheme is the same - horizontal lines, uncluttered surfaces, smooth body panels. Generally very simple as all German design used to be until Mercedes and BMW experimented with chiseled flame surfacing. The only real changes Audi has made is softening the 80s-style square edges with more aerodynamic curves, like an updated Helvetica. Besides the questionable TT I can't remember the last time an Audi wasn't stunningly elegant.

Most other car companies including the Americans never managed to develop a long-running design philosophy. They're always changing it up with new generations of cars and usually there's at least one oddball that doesn't match the rest. Cadillac has an interesting one but even it is evolving much faster than Audi did. Lincoln is onto something special as well but it's just a baby. How other car companies will keep their wind-swept designs alive for a decade or more is a mystery but they probably won't because it's just not good.

Have you seen the last gen Volvos? I was behind one at night and it was blinding, I couldn't see anything for a minute after. I think it was a C30)

As for the rest of the Durango, those headlights have been ripped straight from the 2012 Ford Mustang

Yeah, the 5.9 and 6.7 Cummins' would be way too big and heavy to put in a newer car or SUV. If one could source an older 4BT, the 3.9 Inline 4 Cummins, that'd be much better suited.

But I don't see many people buying a brand new SUV and chopping it up to put a 20 year old diesel engine in it. :)
