This is a serious heartbreak for Japan, all things considered. They were this close of going to the quarter-finals for the first time in their history but nope. But hey, go Belgium!!!

Hard luck Japan. That performance deserved more. Belgium'll need to up their game if they hope to compete with Brazil. They were awful for an hour and needed a fluke to get back in it. De Bruyne didn't turn up till the last 30 seconds.

Him and Lukaku both. What a way to turn up though.

Terrific goal but Japan handed it to them. Why they committed 6 players to a corner in the last minute I'll never know. They'd hardly won a header all match. Lukaku's movement and dummy were special though.

What a game that was! Martinez made the right changes when it mattered and then Belgium woke up, gutted for Japan though as they were brilliant and that Inui good was spectacular!

His work for the winner was great but Lukaku squandered about 5 clear chances, 3 of them complete gimmies. He's got the worst first touch of any top forward I can think of.

What a great game. It was lovely to watch but Belgium still aren't there yet. They'll have to play much better against Brasil.

It seems the criticism of his child-like play-acting is getting to Neymar - albeit that he seems to think it is all a conspiracy designed to put him off!

My mate had an accumulator bet that would have paid out big time had Lukaku scored

Japan managed to score more goals than we did against Belgium...
Yeh, and that was Belgium's A team, and not the second string that England played.

Belgium are quite odd - they were nowhere in the game last night until the last 35-40 minutes, but they really turned out the style when they did eventually get going. England have always struck me as being similar insofar as they are prone to simply not showing up and turning in really dull performances - they cannot afford to do that from this point onward. The question is, can they turn on the style like Belgium did against Japan (Panama not withstanding)?

I reckon that if Japan had been playing England last night, Japan would be looking forward to the Quarter Finals and England would be sneaking in the back door at Heathrow airport this morning - but I sincerely hope that they play well against Colombia tonight, and it might just turn out that their defeat to Belgium in the Group Stage was a masterclass in World Cup strategic planning!

I think they are both trying but there has been some shocking shooting. Everyone is just belting it and it's going no where near the net.

Today's the day England get dumped out of the World Cup. (It's on ITV. England lose when it's on ITV).

Well, looks like Switzerland are done. :(

Another year of disappointment...

Watching this team reminds me of watching Southampton. Unfortunately, it looks like they're playing themselves.

England can now only face lower ranked teams until the Final - they're not going to get a better shot than this.

My money is now on Belgium v England for the Final - it would be funny given that they've played already, but the teams would be vastly different. There's a possibility that all but 2 players on the pitch could be from the EPL - Belgium finished against Japan with 9 EPL players on the field, and England are entirely EPL - and it is even possible that no less than 8 Tottenham players could be the field at any one time (although that is unlikely!)...

That doesn't sound unrealistic. However, Belgium made a massive meal out of Japan and almost messed it up. Though I think Brazil are better.

I think the final will be the winner of tonight's game vs Brazil.
