Eh, missed chances... I think that was down to the team more than him, China not pitting him until his tyres had literally died.
Though I'm not sure why that rather popular rumour that has been perpetuated by many well respected F1 journalists is 'insane'...
There is not a Racing team in the world that would punish themselves on purpose when they could make the governing body sort it out instead of them, there is no way Mclaren purposely sabotaged themselves so that they couldn't win championship because they ''were not allowed to win''.

To blame the team for what happened at Shanghai sure maybe a little bit, but Hamilton was still in control of the car, he knew his tyres where bad he decided to go the speed he did, it was still his fault.

He was also a rookie!
All in all as a diehard Lewis fan, 2007 is nothing but positives. Yeah he maybe could have won it, but he didn’t.

Regarding the rumours around 07 and McLaren, the reasoning was/is that McLaren were facing a ban from the sport. And thus Ron struck the deal in order to save the team. Imagine if they’d won, they’d had just been found of cheating!

All those mechanical/electrics DNFs are reminiscent of the 60's and other early decades of F1. It was and still is frustrating to see your hero driver, who otherwise could be winning races and competing for the championship, be eliminated so often through no fault of his own. Call it luck, or call it karma.

Ahaa. It became clear that Mercedes decided about an hour before the start of the race to change the controversial rims back to the already accepted older ones. They thought that others team(s) could/would protest againgst the usage of these rims.
Downside of the older ones was less cooling/flow and thus more change of blistering and more tire degradation. That could be an explanation for the two stopper.

Wanted to make sure there was no chance of a DQ. Though I doubt the FIA would DQ them after the fact.

Losing that will make the rest of the races a bit more interesting, but it's too late.

In somewhat related news, Vettel has now lost 33 places total in the first laps of races in 2018.

Which is an astounding number. Almost as astounding as the 32 places Max Verstappen has gained in the same period.

Happy to see Kimi win a race - I think everyone wanted him to win one (or many) when he showed up again in F1.

One of the better races this season, though it showed its weakness in the last 10-15 laps. We all wanted to see three teams with three cars in the top three...just wish they'd been able to actually race a bit. Sad to see Vettel crack under pressure...again. As one of the commentators stated he seems to have lost his ability to drive through traffic.

Would have rather Hamilton won the championship here, just to avoid all the nonsense and chat and garbage going into Mexico. How many times did we hear "Lewis Hamilton could win the WDC this race..." etc.

While Vettel has been shocking, the stats are a little skewered.. Max has for various reasons started at the back with the 3rd best car, so him making up places isn't that surprising... while Vettel making 1 lap errors means he quickly goes from the front two rows to the back

Imagine if his engine blows at Mexico...

If Vettel doesn't win he'll still be champion

Found this compilation of commentators in different languages announcing Kimi’s win

During the Italian version, is it just me or does he refer to Vettel as “Tornado” “Iceman is back. Iceman and Tornado”

I only speak halfway mediocre Spanish which is a close relative of Italian, my guess is "retornardo" which is past tense for return. Basically "The Iceman has returned", etc. Just a guess.

I'm brazilian and i think you're right, "retorno" and "retornou" are words used in Brazilian Portuguese for "returned" so i could see "retornardo" being the spanish version of that word.
