Those RBR overalls are just great

It's over.

Raikkonen - The Iceman finally cometh. Break out the ice cream. Won it all in the first corner. But props go to the strategy team for that measured gamble.

Verstappen - What a race. What a charge. That undercut on Bottas was tactical brilliance. And that fight with Lewis was measured and on point. Good job, Maxie.

Hamilton - Almost but not quite. Team left him out a few laps too long, but what can you do? When Max passed Bottas, that kind of ruined the team's calculations.

Vettel - Another day, another boneheaded collision. Looks like he twitched and understeered straight into Danny, then snap over'd. Good recovery drive, and lucky him that Kimi was so strong today. But he's really not getting it done.

Bottas - Someone else who isn't getting it done. Mercedes should really consider getting a faster number two.

Hulkenberg / Sainz - We're number four! We're number four!

Errh... was anyone else in this race? Wasn't paying attention.

Fair play to Kimi, he drove a great race.

Championship goes on for another race, which is probably for the best. Seems the VSC call was just too early to make work and then Mercedes left him out too long... Vettel again throwing away his race, but thanks to Riccy’s standard race strat of breaking down and Bottas deciding not to turn up meant a pretty solid 4th place.
Max again doing a great job, unsurprisingly driver of the day

Credit where credit is due: hell of a race from Kimi. I've always been a huge Kimi fan, especially in his first F1 stint, but he's really been lacklustre since rejoining Ferrari and really underperforms more often than not. But beyond that, he drove a near perfect race today. Crucial pass on Hamilton at the start (his first lap 1 place gained of the season?), defended Hamilton well before pitting which allowed him to be a position to be ahead later on, and made no mistakes in the final few laps with Verstappen and Hamilton on his tail. Well deserved win.

lol if there was ever a race where this was true, it was this race. I'd even question whether Sainz and Hulkenberg were in the race. This one was just about the big boys and it was a great one.

Really nice win for Kimi.

Think Mercedes should've at least kept themselves ahead of Max when going for the second pitstop.

The key though was when Lewis caught up to Kimi after putting under the virtual safety car. It could've been a good decision for Merc but Lewis lost 7 seconds trying to pass Kimi and messed his tyres up. If you watch the times, Lewis was about 7-8 seconds clear of Bottas when hunting Kimi down and when Kimi finally pitted with Lewis unable to get past, Bottas was right behind Lewis, huge loss of time. Really great how Kimi kept Lewis at bay before pitting.

Hammi makes sure he wipes his backside off camera this time.

I swear someone in the background started chanting “Kimi. Kimi.”

Its easy to forget about Bottas!

Final race standings

I heard that he is Merc's nr2 driver? Dunno though.
Mercedes has two drivers?

I wish they had the stetsons instead of the regular Pirelli caps.

That way Max could’ve done some line dancing on the podium.
They used to

Kimi!!

People complain about COTA for a number of reasons. It doesn't always consistently produce amazing races, even with some of the best series for overtaking like MotoGP. But when the races do end up unpredictable, they are quite good! Haven't had the rush like I had today for far too many F1 races!

Right? We got them the inaugural year, then marketing seemed to give up on them. They did something similar with Russia, so I kind of wish they would keep the cultural theme going with all the races.

who won F1.5

It's a long time since I was so happy with an F1 result. I'm delighted that Kimi won and that the title goes on for another week.
