Genuine question. Why does it need that much power? Interestingly, it is 75 kg lighter than the Turbo S...

Will it be fast enough to outrun its own depreciation?
Same reason any car with over 1000hp exists - Bragging rights.

No car actually needs that much power in the real world, it's mostly for marketing. Plus the 1000hp+ stat is paired with very impressive times at 2 famous circuits. Given it is Porsche, a brand with a rich motorsport pedigree, chasing this level of performance makes sense for its image. Also helps that it is wrapped under a very attractive design!

Porsche is in a weird spot with the Taycan. The Taycan is a big sedan with a skateboard chassis, like a lot of other BEVs out there. But it has to be a Porsche still...and what does that mean? It has to go fast. But EVs are already stupid fast. So what it really means is that it has to be faster than everything else, otherwise whats the point of buying the Porsche? It's not like you're getting the beautiful flat six soundtrack or perfect proportions, etc & Lucid offers a more compelling EV experience overall, IMO. Hopefully the EV Cayman/Boxster is good...or at least interesting, because the case for an EV Porsche is pretty unclear to me at this point and probably a big part of the reason Taycans have tanked in value on the used market.
