Mason Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

The fall out from his arrest on Sunday has continued with EA Sports removing him from FIFA game in their latest update, Man United have also removed all its Greenwood-related merch from its store and Nike has suspended its relationship with him.

Imagine how often it's happened that she knew to record it.

There have been rumours about Greenwood's "off the pitch" activities for a while. The suspension from the Iceland game for "breaking COVID regulations" was widely held to be sex related, and he was allegedly dropped for turning up to training late repeatedly after "staying up late playing" videogames (reported to be PlayStation, but who knows?) - with rumblings at the time that this was some other behaviour United/OGS were trying to punish him for. I don't think anyone figured it was raping and beating his girlfriend.

Her dad's statement is mental. He seems more upset that it came out at all, and claimed her phone was hacked and that he told her to delete it all, and said stuff like "he's been part of our family for two or three years" and "their relationship hasn't been good for a few months". I mean, I get that knowing what to say in that situation is hard, but talking about your daughter's alleged rapist as if he's a son and being "devastated" because "she didn't want it released" is loopy.

It will be interesting to see how Aubameyang does at Barca. Does he get anywhere near to the form he had for Dortmund, or does he disappear like he latterly did at Arsenal. 🤔 The free transfer saves Arsenal £25m. 😲

Everton are in a bad position and need some quality to come in and hit the ground running, and so get Dele Alli! 😲 🤣 Good luck to the lad, but he is a shadow of the player who arrived at Spurs as a teenager. It was said on a lot of the coverage yesterday, but this could be the crossroads for his career, he needs to show up. He hasn't been used my many of the Spurs managers over the last few years. They all could be wrong, but I doubt it. van de Beek will hopefully show some of the quality that got him to Utd, though I don't think he got a real chance to show what he's got there. Both should learn from one of the best British midfielders in Lampard, depending on how long he survives there. ;)🤣

Mbappe to Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer, but for about £780k per week. 😲 Love to see how Real balance the books with that. ;)

Liverpool will hopefully have done good business in getting Luis Diaz. I would have liked to also they got Fabio Carvalho from Fulham, as he looks like a very good prospect. I fear he may be off abroad on a free for £0 in the summer, following the likes of Sancho and Bellingham.

Fingers crossed for Christian Eriksen at Brentford. He will definitely have to work hard to fit into that team. ;)

A chap on Sky was getting very excited about Aaron Ramsey to Rangers. 🤔 For me he had one very good season for Arsenal, and was always at a pretty good level when he was fit, but there's the thing, when he was fit. Again, I hope he shines in Scotland, but I fear injuries ahead.

What I find worrying about Greenwood is did United know about it and if so what did they do if anything?

The club could come out of this pretty badly..

Just being devil's advocate here, but since he was convicted in the civil court in 2011 and no convictions since, at what point would it be "ok" for him to join.

Is it because sportsmen are supposed to be role models? And therefore rehabilitation for a serious offence can never be permitted, no matter what time scale is involved?

The suggestion from what has been posted is that he appealed, but isn't there an argument that he has "paid his dues".

If it was a 40 year old offence, instead of 10 years, and another sport (struggling to think of a long life sport, let's say snooker) would that make a difference?

I know absolutely nothing about the case, obviously, but just wondered about it.

I guess reality is that this reaction was inevitable and entirely predictable. And both parties look like they might have been somewhat naive.

But I do sometimes wonder what happened to the concept of being Christian and being able to forgive past sins 🤔

It's a fair point, but the fact is that the guy is a rapist and that has lifelong consequences.

I think the reaction to Goodwillie's signing is partly due to the growth of the women's game in recent years, as well as increasing awareness of social issues and the role that sport can/should play in addressing them.

Raith Rovers are standing by their decision to sign Goodwillie, and that's their call... but I think it will end badly for all involved.

Not really, no.

There was no criminal trial against him or his co-accused, because the PF elected not to prosecute - although a separate criminal injuries commission determined the woman in question had been raped and awarded her compensation.

A civil case (lower standard of proof - balance of probabilities rather than physical evidence) against him and David Robertson determined they had raped her. They appealed the verdict and lost.


Someone who has served a sentence for a crime and shown remorse for it can be said to have "paid their dues" or something something "debt to society". DG and DR haven't seen the inside of a cell for a minute and deny it even happened.

Speaking of massive tits, Alphonse Areola. I've always stifled a little giggle at his name, but he's trending at the moment because of something to do with West Ham not being able to sign him permanently as part of the loan agreement even though he has an £11m buyout at PSG. Or something.

I mention this so that you don't click on his name on Twitter to see why he's trending. Or at least don't without making sure no-one else is looking at your screen... :eek:

While this will be welcomed by many, it is arguably too little too late - and if he has already signed a contract (which I assume he has), then Raith Rovers could be on a sticky wicket if they can't get out of it, and it will leave David Goodwillie earning a tidy weekly wage without having to play a minute for the club.

It remains to be seen whether key sponsors will return to the club, esp. if it turns out that Goodwillie remains on the payroll, and whether the women's club will reverse their apparent decision to cut ties with the club altogether.

Man United have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough at home 7-8 on pens.

Games finished 1-1 AET and really we should have been 3-0 up at half time after a great first half in which we had loads of chances and squandered them all, plus Ronaldo put a penalty wide. Sancho gave United a 1-0 lead at the break with a deflected shot and Boro's equalizer was controversial with Watmore handling in the build up, however it was deemed 'accidental' handball and under new laws its allowed (?!?!) Credit to Boro who grew in to the game and had more possession and chances as the second half wore on and we seemed to run out of steam.

Shoot out was high quality with some great penalties taken but it was Elanga who put his over and gave Boro the win, he was close to tears after and hopefully he will recover from it, that wasn't the reason we lost the game though as if we took those chances in the first half then there wouldn't have been a penalty shootout.
 
I didn't know the Utd v Boro game was on TV, and only turned on for the last minute or two if the first half. During the break they were raving about how well Utd had played, and the great goal by Sancho, and then they showed the goal. He mis-controls it, shoots, and the ball is deflected. The Boro equalizer should not of stood. but from what I saw in the 2nd half, a draw was pretty much fair. Once you get to penalties, anything can happen.

And correct me if I am wrong. It can be judged as accidental, and nothing given. However, even if it is accidental, if you score directly after the ball hitting a hand, the goal is disallowed. If like in the match last night, it hits a hand and then is passed to another player, as long as the handball was deemed accidental, no problem. If the ball hits a defenders hand in the box, unless it is from a yard or two, the term 'hand in an unnatural position' comes into play, and it is generally a penalty. An attacking player doesn't seem to be judged on the naturalness of their hand position, just whether it was accidental or not, and whether the player scored directly after the ball hitting a hand. So all clear for everyone then! 🙄 :banghead:

When we played footy in the park, the rule was it doesn't matter how it hits a hand, it was handball. The clue was in the name. And it worked for us. 🙂 😄

Drama and heartbreak earlier, Kidderminster took the lead in the first half and were the better team for much of the game, Declan Rice scored the equalizer on 90+1 minutes and then Bowen got the winner on 120+1 minutes, heartbreaking for Kidderminster who were brilliant for a Vanarama National League North side, Plymouth also took an early lead over Chelsea and they needed extra time to go through, Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso with Chelsea goals and Ryan Hardie had a penalty saved for Plymouth on 118 minutes!

Everton with a comfortable win on Lampard first game in charge, Fulham took the lead v Man City but that only lasted two minutes, extra time being played in the Southampton-Coventry game.

Cambridge v Luton and Spurs v Brighton to come tonight.

It's a nonsense rule, I wasn't aware of it until last night, and based on the description given the goal was righly given, but the rule that dictated that is nonsense.

It pretty much penalises a team for defending. For example (and I'm presenting this as a possible alternative scenario not as what would definitely have happened otherwise), had the United players had that rule in thier minds then the best thing Dean Henderson could have done is drop to the floor to present an open goal.

In that event, the Boro player maybe wouldn't have attempted the lob, which was off target and tapped in by another player, instead they may well have just slotted into the now open goal. In that scenario the hand ball rules the goal out. But becuase Henderson made himself big, tried to prevent the goal and the players lob was off target, the goal stands. It really is a mess of a rule and the sooner that's changed the better for everyone from controversial moments like this.

Well done to Boro, they were thoroughly outplayed for large portions of the game, but United were unable to capitalise on the chances created and they stayed in it and took the chance they needed to take.

It was one of those where it could have been 5-0 at half time, but if you don't take your chances a game is always in the balance, and as soon as it went to penalties we were as good as out with our record. A big shame the miss fell on Elanga who is a young lad and has looked very good since being given time in the first team by Rangnick. But it was nice to see all the players going to him afterwards.
 
Southampton beat Coventry in extra time 2-1 with Walker-Peters getting the eventual winner.

Luton beat Cambridge 3-0 and it just finished 0-0 between Burnley and Watford PL game with the only winner in that game being the weather, very wet and wind-swept at Turf Moor!

Spurs v Brighton cup game just kicked off.
 
Unbelievable bad luck by Kidderminster. They were the better team. Didn't realise it would have been the biggest cup upset if they would have won. Six divisions apart. :eek:

Comfortable win win the end for Liverpool with all four goals coming in the second half. Jota, Minamino and a returning Harvey Elliot with Liverpool's goals before Ruben Colwill got a consolation late on.

How about that result at Forest?! They were the better team from start to finish and were 3-0 up at one point. Zinckernagel, Johnson, Worrel and Spence got Forest goals with Iheanacho getting one for Leicester after a mix up at the back, Leicester just didn't fancy it much like Arsenal who Forest knocked out in the third round. The holders are out.

Boreham Wood beat Bournemouth 1-0 in another shock, they now face an away tie to Everton.

Senegal have won the African Cup of Nations for the first time after beating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the final.

I'll add the cautionary note that he's not been convicted of anything yet, but it almost seems a formality given that he was apparently very clearly recorded raping his girlfriend, Harriet Robson.

He hasn't gone through an "ordeal", she has. She will likely continue to do so until a conviction is secured and then for some considerable years afterwards as she has to mentally recover while being the subject of tabloid intrusion due to her rather unwelcome fame, and probably no small number of people who think she set him up for a payday abusing her about it for the rest of her life, through no fault of her own.

It's not a "shame" he appears to have chosen to beat and rape his girlfriend several times (imagine how often it happened for her to be prepared to record it in the first place), it's disgusting and repellent. It speaks of someone who has grown up in an environment where women are treated as objects rather than people - which brings up many questions about Manchester United's youth program, and the attitudes of that group, which will have been managing much of his life since he was six years old.

If it turns out he is a serial abuser and rapist, it's great that his career is over. Hopefully he's still young enough to be educated and rehabilitated, and that being removed from his position of power and respect and his multi-millionaire lifestyle (his estimated annual salary is £4m) - and the culture at the club - will help him to come out of the other side of this as something other than a giant piece of ****. Which is what he is if this is all as true as it looks like it is.

The fact he's absolutely wasted his talent might come as a wake-up call to some other would-be rapists who grow up not respecting women and get thrust into fame and fortune and a culture of misogyny. So that's great too.
 
Great to see Harvey Elliott back from injury, and score a very good goal too. 🙂 Luis Diaz got on as a sub and set up a goal with some good footwork.

It looked like it may be one of those days for Liverpool after a pretty even first half with few chances from each team. Kepper lucky not to be sent off for a mistimed 'tackle' outside of the box. 😲 Good result in the end though. 🙂

Good weekend for the FA Cup, with some shocks. Gutted for Kidderminster, as that could have been one of the biggest 'giant killings' ever.

There is no excuses for his actions. He screwed it up hard. Im thinking its the money and the fame and that fame gives them this mentality that they can do whatever they want to the point where they destroy their footballing careers. So many young talent have ended up like this.

Mason Greenwood might get a second chance the problem is the image who would want a player to play for their club if his a rapist or a sexual assaulter.

They need guidance in life and the parents play a big role in trying to steer their child away from the bad.

Well quite. Look at what happened to "Rape Rovers" recently when they tried to sign David Goodwillie.


And then there's Ched Evans. He was eventually cleared of raping a girl - after being convicted on the basis she was incapable of consenting, he was cleared on the basis of her "sexual history" (which still creeps me out; she can't have been raped by the two accused because she had sex a lot?) - but he was pretty much outcast after serving his original sentence.

Insanely, his original club tried to sign him again after he was released from prison while still a convicted rapist, and they soon found out the consequences of that. Hartlepool, Oldham, and Hibs apparently weren't paying attention and all decided that it would be a great idea to sign a convicted rapist... After he was cleared, he signed for Chesterfield (whose fans sang the chant "He ****s who he wants, he ****s who he wants, Oh Chedwyn Evans, he ****s who he wants" - classy) and I think he's at Preston now.

Legally he's just a regular piece of **** rather than a rapist piece of ****, because he participated in group sex (cheating on his girlfriend, who stuck by him... wtf) with a barely conscious drunk girl while his mates who weren't "having their go" were filming it (edit: ewww, one of the non-participants "trying to film it" was his younger brother).

Kick-off times are 7.45 unless stated otherwise, All games are on BT Sport...which I no longer have.

Two teams missing there and its Chelsea and Brighton, Chelsea are taking part in the Club World Cup this week (Wednesday to be exact against Al-Hilal) so their games v Brighton and Arsenal this weekend are being re-arranged, worth pointing out that Chelsea have played 24 games in the league which is more than anyone else.

There is also a full schedule of Football league games this week too, plus SPFL and National League games.
