I'll mention this too because it's worth being said: Thank you plenty for the fair run to the line. Many players would do otherwise and pin me into the pit wall because its just a videogame, but I really appreciate the sportsmanship.
No worries at all mate, and thank you for the clean racing as well. Even if it is just a video game, personally, I can't see any fun in winning if it's not done fairly. If only some of the others we see would think the same way...

I've had that exact thing happen to me before - being pinned to the wall in an attempt to stop me from winning - and even though I still did end up with the win, it really spoilt the race. So I know how that sort of thing feels.

First effort was a calamity.

Qualified 12th yet again. I caused a bit of a mess at T1 and picked up a few penalties early on as everyone jostled for position. Also inadvertently dive-bombed someone entering the last turn, very sloppy on my part.

Set the fastest lap after switching to softs and had progressed to 9th before getting tapped at the sharp left hairpin on the second to last lap and spinning. Eventually finished 17th or 18th.

I had an Italian doing a Mazepin impression during qualifying... :banghead: We'd all spaced out, leaving a gap to go through the final chicane except someone decided they weren't going to do that and was right up my rear wing coming down the main straight. The start of my flying lap was utterly ruined as we were side-by-side going into turn 1. I immediately quit back to the pits and went out again. Amusingly, I then qualified P7... with said Italian in P8.

I started on the Mediums, going 5M/8S. Things were considerably calmer than I had imagined they would be, so that was a plus. The Italian had started on the Softs, but we met late into the race when he/she was serving a penalty and I got in front at the hairpin. I screwed up sector 3 on lap 12, putting my foot down too early on turn 12 and getting onto the gravel. That made me all sorts of squirrely trying to take turn 13 and the chicane with dirty tyres and I got a penalty for cutting the track. The Italian ended up going up the back of me coming out of the chicane... and then rage quit.

Had that been anyone else in the race, I'd have felt awful for compromising them that much. But after that little charade in qualifying? 🤬 'em!

End result P7, 159 points. One-and-done. Decent result, but not a combo I'm fond of enough to want to try again. Mostly because my consistency through sector 3 is abysmal... :odd:

A combo that I for one really like although I'd race the SF19 almost anywhere.

Actually qualified well for once and lined up in P3 in the grid, would have been P2 if I didn't go deep at T10. The startd and while I got a good one the car in 4th and crucially on the inside line got past into T1, managed to hold the car in 5th off around the outside ofbl T3. From there the leading pack made a healthy gap on 5th place. Lap 4 and I regain 3rd as the car ahead serves a half second penalty. Lap 5 and the leader on mediums pits for soft tyres, presumably to try and go for a massive undercut on the cars behind. Lap 7 and I lose about 5 seconds and a place to now 3rd as I somehow understeer off at T12. Pitted lap 9 and managed to get the undercut on the car ahead to finish in 3rd. Could have been second without that off but oh well. 122 points and one and done for me, good luck everyone else yet to race

La Caixa was my undoing today. Though I am glad we still have this version over the crap new one that will reduce overtaking even further on an overtaking sparse track.

In Qualy I set a good first half of the lap. Then I switched off. Broke beyond the braking point once I realised I passed it. I held it on but the car understeered off as I wanted to get going. This then spat me onto the grass opposite. I had to be too cautious through the rest of sector 3 ruining my next lap. However I still managed to put it P10. I reckon I had the pace for P5-8 though. As I was 10th I decided to start on Meds. I got a really good start and made a few positions.

If I knew it was going to be that good I'd have started on Softs. La Caixa wasn't finished. I got on the gas too early on exit and she snapped. I held it and cut across the grass. Thankfully due to the melee behind I only lost 2 places through the rest of the lap. But lap 2 and a race ending moment.

:dunce: 5th to DFL in the space of 30 seconds. To make matters worse I was like Bambi on ice and there seemed to be a tether pulling my car back to the wall. Decided to pit that lap and put in the laps to see where we would fall at the end. Well it worked. After the stops I was 11th following a Dutch guy who started last. He eventually went too deep at the final chicane on the penultimate lap and I swept around his outside in the final corner. I pulled away and crossed the line 10th; but this went up to 9th for a tyre penalty ahead. A decent recovery in the end.

I am really tempted to go again as I seem to click a little more at this combo than normal, but I don't want to gamble what is around my average points.

Went again as car #1 which I always hate. Got a decent qualifying:

#1 and #3 (in Hamilton and Leclerc liveries no less @Adam Barber) started on mediums for some reason and caught up by the end after I pitted on lap 8. Quite early on I built a massive lead and thought it was too good to be true, turned out it was. The numbers guy caught me on lap 11 and went past, nothing I could eventually do. Held off the other German through the final sector, and to be fair to him he did bump me at the hairpin and back out of it on the last lap.

Ed - race time was 19:45 in a 194 point lobby.

My DR is now the highest it's ever been at 42.1k, which bodes well for the GT-R at Le Mans on Wednesday.

Ed 2 - I've realised this is also my record score in an FIA race. Yay.

Got tempted to have a run in the Super Formulas after some encouraging results in Free Practice and test lobby sessions. Eventually set a 1:24.840 in the Toyota variant which I entered into the 15:00 EMEA slot.

15:00 Nations
Reinforcing the pace I picked up was the fact I received door number 5 in an entirely DR A+ lobby with some well-known streamers/YouTube personalities. Grid was mostly dominated by the Honda variant with 13 cars compared to seven Toyotas including myself. Qualifying was largely compromised by having to follow another UK representative on my opening lap plus going too deep at La Caixa and encountering heavy traffic later on. Still, my initial 1:26.028 was good enough to line up 9th for the start. Went with the 5M-8S strategy as it offered blistering pace in practice.

Got bogged down while pulling away on TC 1 and ghosted through the pole-sitting Spaniard as he 'stalled' and was collected by a Frenchman. Ran wide at Turn 1 on cold Mediums while trying to maintain distance between three other cars running on my inside, but survived the initial jostling and began pulling away from the mid-pack while others up ahead served penalties. The Haas-liveried car also lost it coming out of the chicane so by the end of Lap 2 I had already gained two places. Followed the slipstream of another Frenchman until he pitted on Lap 4, but had an awkward moment where a black and orange British car got the slipstream and twice pulled to the inside of me on the approach to Turn 1. The second time he managed to pass, but not after switching across to the outside and making contact with an invisible barrier behind my left-rear tyre. I didn't notice that there was contact until looking through my replay afterwards, but this was enough to hand the Brit a 2-second penalty.

Though I could've done without that move, I was generally happy with how the car was performing and managed to close in on the second Frenchman within a couple of laps after pitting. This started a close and ferocious fight between us, and my impulse to try and pass lead to a couple of scrappy moments on Laps 8-9. First, I almost bin it at Turn 5 after my left-rear touches the gravel on exit. Second, I make a dive on him at La Caixa which results in me going too deep and having to run wide over the astroturf. Third, I try to sling around the outside of Turns 1-2, but run out of space and have to back out as he clears the second apex. More chances for the gold Red Bull-liveried car behind us to capitalise, though as he had just come out of the pits on the Medium tyre he lost touch with us soon enough.

In the process of fighting the Frenchman, I had used up much of my remaining push-to-pass, but still had enough of a boost on Lap 11 to help me pull around the outside of him before Turn 1. Now, there was a chance to pressure not one, but three Medium runners squirming and squabbling amongst themselves. The Bahrain driver I was able to close up to in the first two sectors, though there was a point where I accidentally pushed him forward under braking for Turn 5. The Polish driver dives past the Russian at La Caixa which results in a scrap with the Bahraini driver who then proceeds to almost lose it coming out of the chicane. This was my chance to get a better run down the start-finish straight to take 5th with only a tiny bit of boost left. Last lap was spent hunting the Russian down to the line.

The only other time I remember taking part in an FIA Nations Super Formula race was at Catalunya, in the Toyota variant, when I had yet to transition from analog stick to motion controls. Aside from the traffic (a 1:25 would have definitely been possible in qualifying), the Lap 1 chaos and occasional bits of understeer, today's run is probably the best I have ever had in the SF19. Scoring between both championships is turning out to be rather consistent, too; there's only one point between my 5th place here and my 5th place in Manufacturers the other week!

Much better. 4th for 154 points, I think that's a PB.

Did not qualify 12th this time and actually had a stormer of a lap to start in 3rd.

Slammed the overtake button at the start to escape the first corner chaos and remained in 3rd. First and second pulled clear but I also forged a gap to 4th which remained until lap 8 when I spun at the chicane before pitting.

Emerged in 5th and moved to 4th when someone pitted. Kept it clean the rest of the way to finish 6-7 seconds behind 3rd, roughly what I lost in my spin so missed out on a potential podium. Overall not too mad at missing out though as I still performed much better than expected, especially after my disaster in the first race.

Best of luck to everyone yet to run!

Tried to enter the 1740 slot earlier but it seems like the game failed to load the track.

Have posted this in the bug thread as per below quote.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Just don’t want to waste my time waiting for the next slot if it is just going to happen again!

Just had a quick search on the forum and couldn’t find any mentions of this bug.

i just entered the 1740 FIA race, got in to the lobby and the HUD loads but it seems the game failed to load the track etc.

Just a black screen with the HUD on top.

Tried pausing the game, pressing the PS button and going back in etc but to no avail.

Does anyone if it is something I have done in error?
Can give more details if needed

p.s. I was kicked from a lobby for the race probably ten minutes before I entered, however I had

Managed a quali lap which was 3 tenths quicker than practice though sector 1 didn't feel great and that put me P5. Managed to have a clean start and gained a position and almost another thanks to some boost but it wasn't to be and I slotted in just behind Smallpup. After that I wasn't quick enough to keep up in the dirty air though the gap stayed relatively constant between us top 4 and we had pulled a decent gap to behind l. Smallpup pitted lap 7 and unfortunately had a spin at the exit of the last chicane on the yellow kerb, which gained me a position. Went for the overcut on the front 2 as tyres were still ok but it didn't make a difference in the end but still a podium is a good result for me

People going three-wide into T1 is a death sentence to anyone who finds themselves on the outside, and another death sentence for those who find themselves on the inside, going into T2 on the outside.

Basically, run away from everyone and pray nobody murders you. Absolute mess, the race is won and lost at T1.

I had the pace, but couldn't keep up, lost too much time on lap one in traffic, fell back several places. You're worse off starting in the middle of the pack than at the back of it.

I can happily confirm the penalty system is working fine again.

Also, that last chicane is the worst corner in the world. If I could get it right, I'd be only half a second off the top time. Very frustrating.

Decided to give this round a shot. Not too keen on the nations Cup. So opted to enter on my "dailies" account.

Nations Cup

18:40 slot

Quali was terrible, tried to get some clean air, unfortunately got a track limit penalty on my first flying lap, didn't have enough time to head back to the pit. So pushed as best I could, served the penalty. Only good enough for Q13

Race wasn't too bad, started on the RM tyres and lost a few places to drivers who seemed to be running on RS.

Went in to the pits on lap 6, came out in P14. A combination of pits and also pushing quite hard. Saw me up to P4 on lap 12. With the fastest lap (1:26.6), about a second quicker than anyone else. Just didn't have enough time to catch the first 3.

P4
145 points
+800 DR

All the best to those yet to run. See you all on Wednesday.

Yeah, it was impossible to tell for me in the race. Thought I held on but really wasn't sure with your momentum. As for the timing loop - here's a video of testing where the timing loop is.

Seems like latency is the only possibility really, unless anyone else can come up with an explanation for it?

Edit: Other option is that it was just too close for the game to tell, which wouldn't make sense when the server/physics engine would have an exact position for each car on the track...

Assuming they use position of the driver crossing the line as the timing point?

Very happy with today’s race. Entered the penultimate slot where I qualified P4 and finished P4. I tried a ballsy alternate strategy from the front, but that and a small penalty from the chicane stopped me getting a P2. P4 was decent result, but I was disappointed and knew the win was there.
So I entered the last slot. Qualified P4 again, but went for the traditional S>M strategy this time. Stayed out of the L1 incidents in T1 and was running P2. Hunted down the leader and stalked him relentlessly from ~1s behind. I had a feeling he was using way more overtake than me and out of the corners he was very aggressive and twitchy. I knew I could force a mistake. He ran wide in T7/8 and picked up a 0.5s penalty. When he served it the next lap I caught up and was side by side on the apex into T10. He tried to turn into me but it failed. He and P3 pitted that lap, I went one more and emerged 3s ahead. Cruised the remaining 3 laps to the flag without any pressure.

Side note, Mad props to the guy who made that Manor Racing livery. Had to pick it as it’s a gorgeously simple design and I remember my days working for Marussia/Manor very fondly indeed.

I wasn't really thinking I would get a race in today, the whole family is sick in Covid-19, but I felt OK so thought why not.

Entered the lobby with door# 16, qualified as p11, got a good start and advanced to p4 before T1, then I got hit from behind and got a 1 second penalty then the car I was behind spun and went off across my front and I got 2.5 for that.
Kept my head down and was p6 at pitstop where the game promptly assumed my gearshift going into pitlane before animation was a choice of tires so there I was, fuming and swearing as the pit crew mounted the same soft times again.
I came out realising the race was lost so I decided to disregard the tire penalty and continue on softs.
Before Würt I get a much better exit and is side by side with a Italian driver at turn in, so of course he doesn't see me and turns right in on me. Another 2 seconds penalty as he turns off as he hit me.
Then after the pen on next lap as I am catching him on my softs he tried to ram me off.

End result, from SR99 to 70, placement after tire pen was 16.

I decided to run again, in an all B/A lobby.
Door#2, Q4. Are P2 at lap 10 being chased by a guy that passes me on lap 12, I realized as I was trying to catch him and repass that I was going to run out of fuel unless I just saved and stayed in p3.
So finished p3 with 2% of fuel.
Best score of the season for me, 68 points.
Really tired after the races, but happy with the race and how I drove

Podium number 3 and another 180 points to start the FIA Nations Cup season. Much like the Hybrid Prototypes, I wasn’t really in the running for the top step, but runner up is just as sweet.

Started on the front row and nearly had it all go to naught in Turn 1 after being pinned low, I swerved wide trying to get the inside of the second corner, but was shoved off track (thankfully the kitty litter isn’t close to the track boundary). But able to stay in second after getting a good run on @NosOsH out of the hairpin a few laps later. Maybe should’ve gone to lap 9 before stopping, but either way, fuel was required. Would’ve been nice to have @C_Raccoon23 up there in the top 5 with us, but that just wasn’t in the cards.

As a side note, our fav dirty driver got a reset. So maybe we won’t have to deal with that in the low A lobbies.

Nations Cup from Barcelona report. 1800 Americas. Door 10. Solid C lobby. 38 Point race.

Qualifying went well, Qualified 5th. Very solid.

Lap 1, had a great start, pushed up into 3rd, there was craziness in Turn 1 that I avoided and somehow didn't get a penalty for. (I'd have penalized me!) Pushed through 3 and 4 nicely, saw a guy coming on the inside on turn 6, gave him room and ..... drove right off the bloody track. SMDH. Like... just drove off the track. Dropped to 13th.

View media item 73693
Pushed back to 7th for the 2nd lap. Went for the 5RM/8RS strategy and came into the pits in 6th at the end of lap 5 for the softs and a splash. Came out in 17th. The problem with this strategy? I immediately came out in the middle of the back markers. Pushed up to 11th by lap 8 when on turn 5 I went wide to set up a pass and magically went back to the beach.

View media item 73694
Passed the back markers again and was setting up for a fast entry into turn one on lap 9 when someone (With a really nice livery) came out of the pits. Now I didn't hit him, but i got my elbows out as I ducked underneath him.

View media item 73695
Took 7th on lap 10... and then? Just when I thought I could push to get a top five? The green paint monster on the exit of 10 gets me and spins me. Dropped to 8th.

View media item 73696
Stayed there until lap 12, picked up a 1s penalty for getting into the guy ahead of me in turn 11. I went over the kerbs on the inside of 11, he went around the kerb and ... Imma call that a racing incident. (Sorry Bubba, wasn't intentional).

Dropped back to 8th after the penalty and picked up 7th after one of the leaders picked up a tire penalty.

I had the pace. Heck, i had the fastest lap at one point but self-inflicted gremlins got me.

I wasn't really thinking I would get a race in today, the whole family is sick in Covid-19, but I felt OK so thought why not.

So sorry to hear this, I hope that your family all recover quickly and that you'll stay fine.

Assuming they use position of the driver crossing the line as the timing point?
Didn't make that connection but looks like that's exactly how they do it. Tested with a VW Kombivan, with the driver right up the front:
