How is it that despite finishing just above and below the relegation line in 2024, Nottingham Forest are 3rd in the prem and have a ticket punched for Europe, while Luton Town are in a struggle to stay in the Championship? What happened?

They cheated, spent money they weren't allowed to spend, took a points deduction, and then reaped the benefits a season later.

Or they are being well coached.

Luton is a curious one, I read that they didn't really spend much in the summer. They had a change of manager around Christmas, the Championship is brutal though.

Leeds and Burnley have been promoted to the Premier League, its straight back to the PL for Burnley having been relegated last season, Leeds just missed out in the play offs. The Premier League in the past two seasons though has been too much for the teams promoted from the Championship, all three promoted teams went straight back down last season and it looks to be the same this season, Leicester and Southampton have been relegated with Southampton on course for one of the worst points totals in PL history, its only a matter of time when Ipswich join them.

Is there such a stat as most league defeats without being relegated? Spurs currently have 18 losses with five more games left to play.

There is, and the stat is 21 defeats in a 20 team premier league.

Hull City 13/14
Swansea and Palace 16/17
Villa 19/20
Everton 21/22
Bournemouth 22/23
QPR 11/12
Sunderland 07/08
West Ham 06/07
Man City 05/06

Glasner and Palace are just a great watch. I don't think any manager has stepped in to make a team go from dreadful to entertaining the way Glasner has done after taking over from Hodgson. Sarr is on a heater. It'd be sweet if they won the FA cup.

I am backing Liverpool to beat Spurs and seal the title. Not many saw this coming at the start of the season but Arne and his team have done an incredible job to be on the verge of winning it with four games to spare.

Someone from Palace should make sure the goal posts at Wembly aren't pained sky blue underneath...

Liverpool were crowned Premier League Champions yesterday, I begrudgingly admit it was deserved as they have been the best team in the league. Arne Slot has done a fantastic job so far and not many predicted Liverpool to win the before this season.

Ipswich had their relegation confirmed and it means that all the relegation spots are done with four games to go which is the earliest ever. There is only the fight for European spots in the PL left but what a fight it is, its very complex mostly because of outside stuff such as the Cup final between Crystal Palace and Man City, the fact that Arsenal, Spurs, Man United and Chelsea are in the semi finals of European competitions and Newcastle are one of the teams who are fighting for places in the league having already won the League cup which gives a European place.

Elsewhere Wrexham won promotion from League One to the Championship, they have won three consecutive promotions which I'm pretty sure hasn't been done before and they were won the National League two years ago.

As an Arsenal fan, I've no right to complain. We've dropped so many points through sloppy draws. :banghead:

When Klopp left i imagined us quite easily falling into a Man U-like situation where no matter the caliber of manager they take on, none seem to quite gel, but Slot has slotted in nicely ;)

MUSC4EVER

There's hope for the mighty Harrogate Town yet. Just need that all important Hollywood star to buy them out.

To be fair, the Weavers have done a great job of lifting us from obscure northern leagues to the EFL.

At this rate we're going to finish behind both the oil sheikh teams. FFS.

Yeah congrats on the title win and the great season, what do you think will happen to Farke now?

Its beyond me that he has had this great season with Leeds and there are doubts about his future.

Farke has had plenty of goes to show that he is excellent in the Championship, but woeful in the Prem. I wouldn't expect him or Parker to last too long in the Prem next season unless they learn from Kompany's mistake and actually try to adapt their system to being a bottom-half Prem side.

To be fair to Farke and his premier league efforts, on both occasions with Norwich City, he has absolutely no money to strengthen the team, the owners kept selling their best players, he won the championship twice with Norwich despite the lack of financial support from the board and when they fired him (off the back of an away win no less) they replaced him with Dean Smith who was even worse and showed how good a job Farke had done.

If Leeds plan to spend in the summer to have a chance at survival, they need to keep Farke so he actually gets a fair shake. Basing his premier league ability on his Norwich time would be pretty unfair to him.

Trent Alexander Arnold confirmed this morning that he is leaving Liverpool this summer, He has been at the club for twenty years having joined at the age of six and won two Premier League titles, a Champions League and an FA Cup among others.

He has just verbally agreed to join Real Madrid on a free, TAA was one of three big players for Liverpool who were out of contract this summer but they managed to get Van Dijk and Salah new deals.

That's kind of insane that TAA is leaving Liverpool, of the three.

Anyway, how about that Inter vs Barca fixture? Those had to have been the best pair matches I think I've ever seen.

I knew there would be a comment about the Inter-Barca game on this thread.

I have mentioned this so many times and I will do it again.

There is a thread dedicated to the Champions League and the other two UEFA club competitions, I think not many people know that because I have been the only one posting in it!!

Nobody has posted in that one for a whole year until you made a post last month, lol. My bad, just plain didn't see it.

We should probably close that thread and have one proper Football discussion thread open all the time, and not just once per season.

it was saved; justice has been done.
By a goalkeeper who arguably shouldn't be on the pitch right now...

As a relative neutral who hates Palace for kung fu antics a decade back and City for obvious reasons, that looks like a ball handled outside the box denying a goalscoring opportunity...

Cons: Some shocking decisions by the ref, can't believe how Henderson stayed on the pitch.

Pros: Man City didn't win, a "big boy" club of any sort didn't win, someone else won.

I'm fairly certain 99% of all neturals wanted a Palace win today and they did play very well. Henderson, ignominiously, was outstanding.
