Great game, and alot of talking points.

Congrats to Crystal Palace on their first major trophy - delighted for their fans to finally have their day in the Sun.

Man City were pretty unlucky - the Henderson decision changed the game and the VAR decisions were inexplicable - though it was poetic justice that he saved the penalty, and I'm glad the game wasn't decided by a blatant act of cheating.

The CP goal was sublime and a worthy decider in a pretty close contest, though Man City were pretty disappointing.

I'm fairly certain 99% of all neturals wanted a Palace win today and they did play very well. Henderson, ignominiously, was outstanding.

Not really a neuitral, but I wanted a Palace win and really pleased with the result. That said, I do think Henderson should have had a red, I would be livid if that happened against United.
 
The thing I don't get about the Henderson hand ball was that it was nothing. Where was City's free kick?

Watching the FA Cup final - blatant dive for a penalty by Man City, and it wasn't even overturned by VAR. What a farce.

Ball don't lie. I totally thought he got the teensiest little touch on that ball, too. Amazing that Crystal Palace finally got some hardware. 164 years, wow! Glasner really did a great job. They went from dreadful to watch under Hodgson to one of my favorite teams for me to catch highlights.
 
This thread will wrap up soon after the Football League play-offs have been decided. I've been extremely quiet this season for two reasons:

1. I just don't enjoy discussing football as much as I used to; "football culture" has become so draining, pathetic and facile.

2. I am superstitious about commenting on Wrexham when things are going well. I have 30 years of conditioning for us doing well to be such a rare thing.

But my god, what a season for us. It's the highest finish we've had in my lifetime. Prior to this, it was 7th in the third tier / League One in 1998. I've obviously heard the tales of us in the second tier in the late 70s and early 80s but it seemed almost mythical in my ~30 years as a fan. I know the position of envy we occupy but I will once again state that we have had some very bad times and I just don't care, I can take the flak, when we have a fantastic updraft propelling us out of these doldrums.

Our Chairs say the right things, do the right things and put their money where their mouths are. How many clubs have been promised similar and had it not happen? I completely understand the hate we get and the target on our backs but we don't personally cultivate the pathetic, desperate clickbait attention we get. Those hacks aren't fellating Wrexham, they're desperate for some RYAN REYNOLDS AND ROB MCELHENNEY content, which is entirely their prerogative and I find it embarrassing. And for us, of course this is now part and parcel, and we just have to suck it up and deal with it.

On the pitch though, wow, just unbelievable. The first professional team to win three consecutive promotions. Words just cannot express my joy and adulation for the teams I've seen over the past three years. Don't care what sour grapists say about our style, I'll take success like this any day of the week, any decade of the century.

The playoff are this weekend, Sheffield United v Sunderland in the Championship is tomorrow, Charlton v Leyton Orient in League One is on Sunday and AFC Wimbledon v Walsall in League Two is on Bank Holiday Monday.

Premier League final day is on Sunday.

Sheffield United's play off miseries continue as they lost 2-1 and promotion to the Premier league. As a Yorkshireman and a Leeds fan I couldn't cheer for Sunderland but was so happy to see Chris Wilder's smacked, bitter face at the end.

Not sure about shorts but both Bolton and Preston from 2001 play in plain white shirts. It was almost the same in 2017 with Reading and Huddersfield - Reading have blue and white hoops, Huddersfield have blue and white stripes. Their socks and shorts are different though.
 
I'm over the moon that Sunderland won, more so that Tommy Watson scored the Injury time winner.

As a Brighton fan this pleases me greatly, we've signed the next Messi! 😂

Also it means no Sheffield United or Chris Wilder stinking the place out for a season with terrible tackles killing good players, so the PL is better for it

Man City, Chelsea and Newcastle all get the final Champions League spots, Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 away from home whilst Newcastle lost at home to Everton but they get a CL spot because Aston Villa lost to Man United 2-0, I know Man United actually won a game...fancy that!

Spurs also get a CL spot as Europa League winners so that makes six Premier League teams in next season's Champions League. Villa are in the Europa League after a sixth place finish with Forest in the Conference League with a seventh place finish, I think there could be another European spot in the league as Chelsea have qualified for the Champions League through the League but are in the the Conference League final this week and that gives a Europa League spot to the winner.

Nope, that's it for Europe now. We needed Chelsea to finish 7th and win the conf league and then we would have had their conference league spot for finishing 8th.

But now Nottingham Forest get it through the league, that's it done now

Have to be fair and say, considering Chelsea had to play Liverpool, Newcastle AND Notts Forest in the last 4 matches, I didn't think we had any chance of top 5. We were aided by Liverpool "coasting" a bit after winning the title and Forest just dropping off latterly, but job done and hopefully the players can enjoy the final on Wednesday knowing that Champs League is already in the bag.

And then the Chelsea transfer merry go around begins again...

Congrats to Newcastle, Villa and Forest on great seasons, to Liverpool for being streets ahead in the league and to Palace for arguably the biggest achievement of the season.
 
I'm just glad it's all over for another season. Man Utd and Spurs were very lucky the bottom three were so weak.
 
In related football news, I'm sad about Lineker leaving MOTD. For however boring and uninspiring I have found some of the pundits over the years, I've always really enjoyed Lineker as a host.

Don't close this thread yet, I've got some stuff I want to say.
 
So I just want talk about the season my two teams have had.

For Man United, well it was the worst season the club have had for in nearly 50 years. 16th in the league and we probably would've been relegated if it was for Bruno Fernandes, also lost the Europa League to Spurs. Moost of the players aren't good enough and the club is an absolute mess and has been for years. Massive summer ahead with more outs than ins expected as a lot of crap needs to go, the jury is is out on Amorim and he will be under pressure to get it right, he is sticking by his 3412 system rigidly and will be given the summer to get his players in (Matheus Cunha is a good start) but if we have a bad start to next season then he will likely be gone by October.

I don't talk about Swansea that much on these threads anymore, the club are very much mid-table in the championship these days and we had bit of a roller coaster year, there was an internal takeover as the American investors left, Luke Williams was sacked in February after a losing steak meant we were looking over our shoulder a bit but Alan Sheehan came in as interim initially and turned things around as we had an unbeaten run towards the end of the season, Sheehan has now got the job permanently. There was the shock news that Luka Modric has joined as an investor and minority shareholder which gave the club a boost at the end of the season, it will be really interesting to see what comes from that.
