I'm pretty sure the entire motive for bringing in Colapinto was his sponsor package, and Renault seems to be doing alright despite the Nissan-shaped boat anchor attached to them (granted this part doesn't mean much after this season), so I doubt it'll be financials that sink the team. I wouldn't entirely rule out them selling it to another automaker wanting to buy into the sport in a couple years though, depending on how Audi and Cadillac's debuts go.Why do I have the weirdest feeling that Alpine will end up insolvent soon?
So, I can't pull up the Instagram post, but Canal+ is reporting that Colapinto will indeed replace Doohan, but will also have a 6-race contract with Alpine.
If this is indeed the case, I'm willing to bet that Alpine will use said contract to claim that they gave Colapinto the same contract as Doohan for the sake of "fairness" before inevitably signing Colapinto for the rest of the year.
Why do I have the weirdest feeling that Alpine will end up insolvent soon?
Yeah I can't see this lasting. What a mess. Will be very interesting if these long lasting rumours around selling Alpine F1 completely will turn into reality in '26 or later. Let's not forget 24 per cent of the team's shares were sold to an investment group including Otro Capital, RedBird Capital Partners and Maximum Effort Investments in June 2023.
List of notable Alpine investors under Otro Capital
- Ryan Reynolds - Canadian and American actor, producer and businessman
- Rob McElhenney - American actor, writer, producer, podcaster and businessman
- Michael B. Jordan - American actor and businessman
- Rory McIlroy - Four-time golf major winner
- Patrick Mahomes - 3x NFL Super Bowl champion
- Travis Kelce - 3x NFL Super Bowl champion
- Anthony Joshua - Two-time former unified world heavyweight champion
- Trent Alexander-Arnold - Champions League and Premier League winner with Liverpool
- Juan Mata - 2010 World Cup winner with Spain and former Chelsea and Manchester United star
- Alexander Zverev - Tennis star
I wouldn't be surprised if Flavio also owns parts of the team as compensation for his efforts and is now only interested making it more valueable.
Fixed it.Seeing as Doohans seat was in question before the 2025 season started it was bound it happen,
Briatore wanted Colapintodrivingmoney.
Where would he look? Don't see anything opening up for him even if Max left RB and put the Driver market on fire.I wouldn't be shocked if Gasly started looking elsewhere at some point.
He'll want to stick around at least for 2026, when the team ditch their underpowered engines and get their hands on the new Merc unit.I wouldn't be shocked if Gasly started looking elsewhere at some point.
And wouldn't you know it, he's also his Manager. At this rate, I'm curious as to how many of those Alpine drivers are managed by Briatore. Is he pretty much dangling that second seat as a carrot for ALL the drivers?Seeing as Doohans seat was in question before the 2025 season started it was bound it happen,

With Colapinto on such a short race deal, maybe we will see Aron in the car. He seems more promising than Colapinto anyway, just not nearly as marketable. Piastri going to McLaren has to be one of the best career moves in F1 history.
I also seen that Carlos Sainz Sr is thinking of running against MBS for FIA president this year. I don't think MBS would stand a chance.
Having found out about the political leanings of the Sainz family, I am not sure he'd be an upgrade.I also seen that Carlos Sainz Sr is thinking of running against MBS for FIA president this year. I don't think MBS would stand a chance.
Wouldn't this be a conflict or interest? And wouldn't you know it, he's also his Manager. At this rate, I'm curious as to how many of those Alpine drivers are managed by Briatore. Is he pretty much dangling that second seat as a carrot for ALL the drivers?
I would be highly surprised if it isn't, especially considering that second seat will have been nothing BUT Briatore Managed drivers and not a single one outside of his management.Wouldn't this be a conflict or interest?
Being Advisor and driver manager?

If the FIA president was voted for solely by the occupants of the F1 paddock, I would agree with you, but it isn't. There are hundreds of FIA member organisations that have a vote in the election of an FIA president, some sporting, some road, and most of them have a say. In the UK for example the Camping and Carvanning Club has as much say in the presidency as Motorsport UK.MBS would have no chance against anyone right now, but yeah, Carlos in particular is a popular and prominent figure.
Very, very good points there. It is very easy to forget how wide the scope of the FIA is.If the FIA president was voted for solely by the occupants of the F1 paddock, I would agree with you, but it isn't. Why does that matter? The FIA helps fund road safety projects all over the world, so the beneficiaries of that funding will naturally vote for what's best for them, not what's best for F1 or WRC. I doubt the Bolivian Automobile Club gives two hoots about MBS' position on racing drivers swearing or how he handled the fallout from Abu Dhabi '21 when the FIA is helping improve road safety in remote corners of their country. In 2021 MBS campaigned heavily in the regions that could secure a large number of votes for relatively little outlay, as Jean Todt did before him - Africa, South America, some regions of Asia - and many of them could well vote for him again, because what happens in F1 doesn't affect them at all.
Making race strategy decisions over the specific decisions of finding a suitable vendor for roadside bollard reflectivity standards is a tough call.Very, very good points there. It is very easy to forget how wide the scope of the FIA is.
Well, I would agree that this is QUITE a personal reason to depart.![]()
