I’m going into 2025 cautiously. Parity for this season was good, not perfect but I trust Tim Edward’s and his team will be hard at work over the Summer break. We have the new Dunlop tyres to look forward to, which will hopefully allow the drivers to race harder for longer without worrying about overheating. Then there’s the Finals… let’s just see how that pans out. I’m not looking forward to that aspect but I’m trying to not let it sour the whole thing for me.
 
This has been a good watch over the off season, the iRacing Supercars series. These are the top split races of each week for Season 1 2024, so not an organised series but SimSpeed have been kind enough to broadcast the races for our enjoyment. Featuring the likes of Brodie Kostecki, Richie Stanaway and our own @Mad94d.

It kinda makes sense for them to want to switch... but I didn't support them (Triple 8) before when they were a Ford team and I won't this time either (if it's true). Will Brown, and to a slightly lesser extent Broc on the other hand...

Edit: Just to clarify, my support of WB and Broc won't change as I like both of them as drivers now.

Edit 2: Not much different to last years Castrol livery but it's still one of the best looking liveries out there. Hopefully they don't need too many secondary sponsors detracting from it.

Officially announced at the Ford Performance season launch right now.
 
I wonder what this means for GM, are they pulling support? Or are Ford that worried about Toyota that they felt this was their best bet to stay on top of that threat? This is all very interesting.
 
Was quietly confident about the future of the sport when the Toyota announcement came, because I just assumed 888 were going to prop up the Chevrolet brand for as long as it exists.

Pretty unsure now though. There’s just no decent GM left. BJR aren’t going to replace them, Premiair are improving but still a way off being a top team, Erebus… not happening.

I get why they left, but still surprised me.

There was talk of 888 running a Corvette GT3 as well? Doubt that’s happening anymore.

Definitely feels like this is the beginning of the end of GM in series now. Wonder if this is why Supercars themselves were the ones behind the Toyota deal. They obviously (probably) knew something was up.

Edit: Also I guess this means there suddenly won't be any parity issues with the Mustang after this year. :sly::lol:

Are Toyota interested in expanding their program beyond two teams next year? No doubt the interest in being that second team has gotten a lot larger after today.

I don’t think there has been any word on it. Rumours suggest either Erebus or Team 18. Maybe both? Or perhaps Erebus will try to position themselves as the Chevrolet homologation team, if GM plan on sticking around.

GM are done. There's no way that Chevrolet will let Erebus become it's homologation team. Erebus is in tatters at the moment and I can't think of a worse team on the grid now to represent the brand. I think Supercars knew that Chevrolet was going to pull the plug, hence why they got Toyota on board. If they didn't, the series would've died completely. Chevrolet don't give a **** about Australia. The Camaro was just a stop-gap measure to keep the series going for another couple of years. We knew damn well that Chevrolet were going to kill it off but there wasn't much of a choice. If it wasn't for the Holden relationship, it probably wouldn't have happened. Supercars have got the kick up the arse it needed to revitalise the championship, and the Triple 8 defection will send shockwaves through the garages. I expect Toyota and Ford to pick up the remaining teams. As for Erebus? Well, they're either going to pull out completely or swallow their pride and move over to another manufacturer. Walkinshaw will be VERY pleased and I see them becoming a powerhouse ONCE AGAIN with TOYOTA!
 
Had to look through some archives for last Mustang and Supra meeting.

Last time Mustang and Supra raced together were in Group A ATCC. 1986 Surfers Paradise. Jonson finished 10th and Peter Williamson in the MA60 DNF’d.
We’ll get to see both cars race together in GT4 this year. Maybe at some point in Super GT GT300 as well.
 
I think it looks fantastic, but sort of doesn't feel very Shell-ish. I'm really liking the red-yellow-white gradient designs they've been running overseas, was hoping that was going to be it once we knew they were changing it up.

Also, not a criticism, but it really looks like a Shell sponsored WAU car. Extremely similar to the white design that WAU had ran in the last couple of years.
