I feel like if Manchester United can get their recruitment right, it is their best chance to compete for league titles post Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.
 
I think he'll do well, I think his philosophy and style is exactly what Liverpool fans want and what will extract the best from their players. Their biggest issue will be replacing Salah.

I agree with @Saidur_Ali above, I genuinely believe Manchester United will be the team to watch for in terms of the title, their fork under Carrick was superb and by the end of the season, really weren't that far off the top, especially considering how the season started.

Maresca will be under immense scrutiny and pressure from day 1, but given that he's a protege of Guardiola and worked under him through success at City, I think he'll understand what he needs to go and do, whether the players respond is another matter, he couldn't get Chelsea firing.*

*Assuming he does get appointed.

Teams of my interest, well, it's a crunch year for Newcastle, the peak of winning the league cup, getting champions league football, making marquee signings, all for nothing when you finish rooted in the bottom half. If Eddie Howe survives the summer (and there will be clubs sniffing around), he won't have long to get Newcastle performing again before the hierarchy dump him. Plus, given the players they have on the books, teams they should have been competing with competitively are now going to be swarming for signatures, which isn't how it should have played out. Tonali is being courted by Arsenal, Woltemade unhappy, the dressing room leadership of Trippier is gone, Gordon is gone (sensationally to Barcelona), if Guimaraes has a good world cup for Brazil, I can't see him staying. It really is crunchy time for the 'new' Newcastle United, or they could find themselves 'doing a Spurs' and he fighting for survival rather than European football.

But my main team, Brighton, have a lot to look forward to. European football again, exciting players just starting to come good in the second half of the season and Lord Tony Blooms AI algorithm is sure to bestow us with another 1 or 2 hidden superstars for next season. With European football, that recruitment will be crucial. The ageing legs of Danny Wellbeck can't cover all the cracks in our strike force, solid, consistent back up is needed. Rumours will swirl around the likes of Carlos Baleba, Van Hecke and Boscagli, if we can hold on to them and some of our loanees can come back and find form again (cough Evan Ferguson), then we should be in a good place to maintain top half premier league status and have a good go at the Conference League, if Palace can win it, Brighton can.

Finally my home town, Norwich City, after a terrible start to last season under Liam Manning, at one 4 points adrift of safety, Philippe Clement turned the ship around and turned Norwich into a force as they shot up the table, heading into the final few weeks of the Championship season with an unlikely shot at reaching the play-offs. If he can keep that momentum, strengthen the squad, particularly defensively, I fully expect Norwich to be in the mix for automatic promotion. West Ham come down with a strong squad and capable manager, and will be favourites for the title, but don't count Norwich out.

Sheffield Wednesday broke its all-time season ticket sales in two weeks, and continues to do so (though a little slower now).

10,000 sales over the launch weekend (May 15th-17th), 15,000 in the first week - passing last season's tally of 17,000 and change a couple of days later - before beating the all-time record of 20,908 last week. First phase sales closed at 22,786, with a second phase to come.

Man City have agreed a deal to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a frankly ridiculous £116 million, he is a very good player but worth nowhere near that much.

Speaking of Man City, still nothing about the 115 charges despite it being the off season.
 
Tremendously amused by our new C-suite commenting last week that we only had six contracted players and they might need more than 3v3s when training starts later this week.

We've since resigned Max Lowe and Liam Cooper, and signed Cabo Verde international (but not in the WC squad) Ricardo Santos from Swansea, Burundi international Jordi Liongola from Belgian Pro League team RAAL La Louviere, and today added Callum Slattery who's out of contract at Motherwell. Hope he's grown up a bit...

Bannan's been linked with a return after Millwall gave us a million quid for him for a third of a season, along with a bunch of other names: Yuki Ohashi, Colby Bishop, Davis Keillor-Dunn...

Hot on the heels of the ridiculous Elliot Anderson £116 million deal to Man City we now have West Ham's Matty Fernandes going to Spurs for £85 million, that's £85 million for a relegated player!

He was linked very heavily with Man United and whilst I am a little disappointed that we won't get him I am glad that we weren't held to ransom and that we walked away, he is a good player but £85 million is far too much, and his wages will be a reported £250k a week as well.

After St. Barry's Day, we've had some goalkeeper action that's double-edged - and symptomatic of the Chansiri Era.

We took on 15yo Pierce Charles on a free after he was released by Manchester City, and after a bit of development and... time, he made a debut in 2024. He wasn't very convincing at first, and a bit small, but we didn't have great keeper options at the time - neither Dawson nor Wildsmith were good enough for that level, and we had a few loans (like that AC Milan keeper who vanished without a trace) - and he quickly became better and the #1 choice. And got Northern Ireland caps.

One of the few highlights of the past two seasons, I was hoping we'd keep him (best L1 keeper by miles), but Manchester City came calling and have paid more up front - £3m - than any other two transfers combined in the last five years (how we got £5m from Reading for Lucas Joao I'll never know; Rangers basically stole Djeidi Gassama from Chansiri for £2m)...

... with add-ons that should make him not only the biggest fee received in club history (beating an under-the-radar, 30-year record I'd never have even guessed) but the biggest transfer dealing of any kind: up to £10m reported, offsetting every deal we've made this summer (not right away).

Don't like the departure, do like the money. Chansiri would have kept him another year, not given a new contract, frozen him out, and let him go on a free. We've received about Charles' fee for every other departure combined in the past five seasons (two of which we had no player sales at all)...


Coming in is former loanee Joe Lumley, who subbed for an injured Charles last year. I want us to play our Welsh U18 keeper Logan Stretch though, for development and for having the funniest goalkeeper name.
