Deadline Day was yesterday meaning the English Summer transfer window is now closed. Premier League clubs spent a record £3.46 billion in a wild summer with some absolutely outrageous signings for ridiculous money. I thought I would post something of a round up of some of most notable clubs.
Man City.
By far the biggest spenders in a summer of transition for them with Pep leaving and Enzo Maresca coming in as new head coach, they spent over £100 million each on two new midfielders with Elliot Anderson joining from Forest for £116 million and Deadline Day signing Enzo Fernandez joining from Chelsea for a British record-equaling £125 million, both those signings for that money I cant quite get my head around, they also signed Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for £85 million which is a record fee for a teenager and Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for £60 million, they had players leaving too like Rodri going to Barcelona for £60 million, Savio and Omar Marmoush both went to Spurs for £75 million and £59 million respectively. But questions still remain as to how they are still getting away with the big spending despite having the 115 charges hanging over them, that issue is still to be resolved with no punishment in sight, its like City are laughing in our faces.
Chelsea.
Its been the usual chaos of incoming and outgoings at Chelsea that we have now been used to, Morgan Rogers came in for £117 million from Aston Villa which is their big signing, they also improved the keeper position finally by signing Emi Martinez also from Villa and brought in Maxence Lacroix from Palace for £55 million, other than Fernandez leaving for City yesterday I think the other notable departure for them was Liam Delap leaving for Forest for £50 million in another stupid overpay, they didn't manage to sign a replacement for Fernandez yesterday after a deal for Lamine Camara of Monaco collapsed so they are now a little light in midfield but their squad looks strong and are arguably Arsenal's nearest rival's for the title, the front three of Rogers, Palmer and Joao Pedro gives problems for any team.
Aston Villa.
Holy Cow what is happening over there?! the team that won the Europa League final against Freiburg in May has been decimated with Martinez, Konsa, Digne, Tielemans and Watkins all gone. They have brought in Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea for £65 million, Johan Manzambi from Freiburg for £55 million, Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Southampton for £30 million and Zion Suzuki for £30 million from Parma, its a rebuild of the squad which will take time to gel and settle hench why they have had such a bad start in the league with two defeats from two and no shots on target, but they still have one of the best managers in the league in Unai Emery so they should be fine.
Spurs.
I thought I would give them a mention as they spent big too, Sandro Tonali came in from Newcastle for £100 million becoming their record signing plus they brought in Matheus Fernandes from West Ham for £85 million, Savio and Marmoush all joined as mentioned above, Van Hecke joined from Brighton for £55 million and they brought in Andy Robertson in on a free from Liverpool. Romero and Djed Spence were the two notable departures, leaving for Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan for £34 million and £30 million.
Arsenal.
It was a more quieter window for the Champions compared to some teams, Bruno Guimaraes joined from Newcastle for £70 million and Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for nearly £40 million, they did see Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard both leave.
Liverpool.
After their huge summer window last year they spent big again, this time on Bradley Barcola from PSG for up to £123 million and it seems he will be Salah's replacement, Victor Munoz joined from Osasuna for £34 million, they signed young defender Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais for £60 million, Ronald Araujo joined from Barcelona on loan and they signed young keeper Lucca Brughams from Genk yesterday for £30 million. Outgoings include Konate joining Real Madrid on a free and Curtis Jones joining Inter Milan for £30 million, they didn't sign a DM that they needed.
Man United.
I think we have had something of an average window to be honest. We did have our planned midfield rebuild with Audrey Santos arriving first from Chelsea for £50 million, then came Youri Tielemans from Villa for £35 million which is one of the bargains of the summer, then more lately we signed Carlos Baleba for £65 million from Brighton. but we didn't need the left back or centre back which we needed which leaves us a bit weak at the back, I still think we have enough about us to finish in the top four though.
