13+ miles. 24 hours. Around 160 turns. 220+ cars. They call it Green Hell, but it's Heaven for most automobile enthusiasts. I respect all the contenders that take on this challenge and win. If anyone's willing to chat about this year's race, feel free to do so here.

So, they can race on the full course?

I haven't followed this event, but this year, I think I will. Any plans for entries running different fuel types?

They always race on the full course GP loop and all.

I wonder if Zakspeed will be back with their Viper this year? And I wonder what Aston Martin can do this year?

I watched the race through an online stream for video coupled with Radio Le Mans for English audio. I had my PC hooked up to the TV and it almost felt like an actual television broadcast. (Aside from the nudity during a few of the commercial breaks, of course). ;)

Hopefully, an live video stream is provided again this year.

DETAILS....FULL DETAILS

Well, I can confirm that Radio Le Mans is in fact providing commentary once again: http://www.radiolemans.com/

I have the direct link to last year's video stream. Unfortunately, I haven't found any information on any live video coverage for this year's race. I'll be checking on various motor racing forums in the next few days and hopefully it will be provided.

Australia doesn't really follow this much, but i love the European 24hr races. Where is the race, France? I think there was one in Adelaide a few years ago.

:lol:👍
Great, just like the Porsche is Italian thing........ :lol: Its in Germany for pete's sake! Don't you play GT4 to recognize this? [/SARCASM]

Well anyways, I can't really watch the race with my internet being so slow. :( But yeah, its a great event that should have worldwide coverage of. No other endurance race is as compelling as the The Nürburgring. 👍 By the way, is the Scirocco entering the race? Have seen a few pictures of it, surely it could go against the 1 series wouldn't it? Also, hopefully this will be a real 24 hour race, the last one seems disappointing..... :grumpy:

Yes, they moved the Nurburgring from Adelaide to France a few years ago. You must have seen it. They used a load of ballons to float the track, and towed it with a huge tug.

I hear they're running the Le Mans 24hr in Portugal this year, with the Spa 24hr a few weeks later in Argentina.

Which race forums do you use?

No other endurance race is as compelling as the The Nürburgring.

It's great but i still think Le Mans as the greatest two days of the year.

I posted that years ago (a whole year before you got here) How did you manage to find that anyway? :grumpy: I bet that's going straight to the funny quotes thread :grumpy: I meant the Sarthe track in France. I thought it might be there or Nurburgring.

EDIT: I knew this was going to the funny quotes thread. :grumpy:

EDIT2: Looks like i just didn't read the title. :banghead:

Lol, I found that quote for you, and you were happy that I have found it. Now you say how did I know? WTFH? :odd:

It doesn't take a brainless oaf to read the thread title..... :rolleyes:

And where does Adelaide come into it?

I just said that it was once in Adelaide. It has nothing to do with this year. And Muzaffar, i knew about that, i was still curious.

Question? Is the Radio LeMans link just a radio broadcast or is there a video stream? I figured that's what you meant when you hooked it up to the tv.

Radio Le Mans provides audio coverage only. However, ADAC(?) provided a live video stream with German commentary.

I had two media players running. One for video (muted) and the other for RLM English audio.

To answer the earlier questions, Zakspeed is running two Viper GTS-Rs, and Lexus is running not only an LF-A, but an IS250.

Are there any entered cars or entered drivers that interest you? Cool/interesting cars for the race or even drivers competing in this year's event that interest you?

yeah, Le Mans moved here because Dakar went back to Africa. It's amazing how you can use copy/paste with google earth :dopey:

EDIT:

off-topic but LMS related, did anyone see Ortelli's HUGE crash at Monza's race this year? I was browsing for news about Le Mans (it'll be run next month) and just found it ... :scared:

Can we PLEASE be a little more realistic and not sarcastic? I can take a joke, but come on. Thiele just didn't know. Let me see how I can describe this to you, Thiele...

Le Mans is in France (a city I'd love to visit in France other than Paris) about two hours west of Paris. The 24 Hours at the Nürburgring normally consists of cars ranging from production cars to tuned production cars to full-on GT cars. Laps can take about nine minutes to complete with the massive Nordschleife (North Course) and the Grand Prix course. Over 220 or so cars compete at once. There's bound to be chaos when you turn 220 or so cars loose on a 13 or 16-mile track across multiple classes of competition. You have to finish to classify. You may even see some teams push stopped cars to the finish line just to help them classify. The track (especially the Nordschleife) is rather narrow with very little room for error. The Nordschleife serves as a test bed for some of the finest sports cars in the world as well as it formerly being used for Formula One racing. NASCAR folk say that Darlington is the track too tough to tame. Well, this track is even tougher to tame (plus it's a real racer's race track). But for the men and women taking on the challenge of the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring, it's one of the greatest accomplishments in the world to complete just one lap, let alone finish, let alone win the race. I'm not crazy about this race or this track like most other people, but it is a challenge that's up there with Le Mans, Paris-Dakar, and just about any other truly intense motor race.

Now back to the rest of us. :) I'm looking around for an entry list online. I ended up finding an entry list here:

http://adac.24h-rennen.de/uploads/media/Starterliste_24h_vorlaeufig_08-04-23.pdf (Adobe Reader needed; PDF File)

Allow me to study some entries in this deal. First thing I noted was that this 36th edition of the Nürburgring 24, as many as 280 entries are in this year's race. Among some of the cars (most of this info from another message board):

* all or any DTM cars
* a hybrid Gumpert Apollo
* Boris Said racing a Porsche 997 RSR
* I noted an Aston Martin DBRS9 as well as an Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24.
* a Toyota Corolla
* the Lexus LF-A
* Audi RS4
* BMW 840 CI(?)
* Holden Commodore
* Volkswagen Scirocco
* Mercedes SLK Carlsson
* Nissan 350Z
* BMW 130i
* Porsche 968 GPE
* Nissan Z33 entered by Falken Motorsports (Godzilla's new car?)
* Lamborghini Gallardo
* Mercedes-Benz 190 Evolution II
* Australian team VIP Petfoods with some Porsches
* Mazda RX-7 (not sure which version)
* SEAT Leon, Leon Supercopa, Ibiza GT-TDI, and other SEAT cars
* Renault Clio RS
* Honda S2000 and Honda S2000GT
* Ford Fiesta
* Rover Mini Cooper and BMW Mini Cooper
* Suzuki Swift GTR
* Fiat 500
* Kia Pro-Ceed's
* Volkswagen Golf V Kit Car
* Toyota Auris <<< Tes Racing for Charity
* Alfa Romeo GT
* Opel Astra Caravan

That's among the many 280 cars in this entry list. I MAY be able to do a FACT OR FICTION, but I'll need to really know who's going to race and who are all ready and game for the big endurance race on the weekend of May 22-25. Anything interesting you note from the entry list if you had a chance to review it?

Audi R8 Nurburgring 24 Racer

This year's Nürburgring 24-hour endurance race will feature perhaps the most wicked Audi R8 yet: a lightweight, custom-built racer that makes the road car look tame by comparison. To comply with the requirements for participation in the race, the stock 4.2L V8 donates its block and is rebuilt from there. The race-spec motor's displacement drops to 4.0 liters but it delivers a hefty 530 horsepower and 353 lb-ft of torque. The R8's stock front and rear bodywork is replaced by new, widebody carbon kevlar panels. Those outboard intakes in the nose are replaced by blanks, and out back, the custom exhaust's dual outlets poke through the spot where the license plate would reside on the production car. Other obvious additions are the front splitter, large rear wing, rear diffuser, and multiple cutouts in the aft bodywork to help with engine cooling. The entire package weighs in at just 2,755 pounds -- this thing should absolutely haul. German magazine Sport-Auto has been covering the car's development.

Outstanding car! I already love the combo of blue with gold wheels. I'm sure this car will kick PLENTY of ass at the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring. Add a good driver lineup, and they'll be the ones to watch guaranteed.
