Ok, I just recently had this crazy idea involving the endurance races that GT4 provides. This won't really be a race of sorts, more like a collaboration of efforts. The 24 Hours of LeMans is the single biggest event in automotive racing, and this time around Polyphony was kind enough to include two versions of that race in our new game. My idea was to coordinate a massive running of the race in GT4 with the running of the actual race in real life. It is a couple months away, but I think it would be a good idea to try and get as many people running the 24 Hours of LeMans as possible. Here are the facts I've found:

The real race starts at 16:00 Greenwich Standard Time.
The real race is on June 18-19, 2005.
There are only 50 cars allowed in the real race.

Naturally the real-life date and time will be the date and time we start our race, but I won't be limiting the number of participants at all (the more the merrier). There are a few rules, though, and they are important to follow to ensure that we keep the collaboration (finishing our race with the pros driving on the TV in the other room sounds like it might be pretty cool).
  1. B-Spec Mode; no acceleration allowed. Granted you'll be allowed to use B-Spec Mode and get some sleep while GT4 does your work for you, but you're not allowed to use the acceleration that it provides.
  2. To sign up, just post in the thread. All I need is who you are, the car you'll be running, and that car's horsepower and mileage. These factors are important statistics for the leaderboard I intend to construct.
  3. After the race is over, post how many laps you finished with. Any entries submitted before 4:00 PM Greenwich Time will not be accepted.
  4. 24 Hours of LaSarthe I will be the course raced. This is because it will be the track they're racing in real life, not to mention it makes you less liable to fall asleep (as there's more to it than a massive back stretch).
  5. All cars being driven will be on stock horsepower. This means that you aren't allowed to add any HP-boosting tunings aside from the virgin oil change. You may still get parts and upgrades that don't have an affect on horsepower, including weight reduction. If you need a list of the parts you're not allowed to equip, just ask me (if your car has a part that cannot be removed like the Port Polish, use a different car).
  6. Enjoy it. GT4 is a game designed to be raced and had fun with. Don't race this because you feel obligated to try and beat everyone or because you justhave to win.

So the winners will be determined by the people who had run the most laps in the 24-hour period of the race. If you'd like to sign up, just post.

Have you thought about setting up different divisions, just as in the real race, that way there those who wish to run say a Vette C5 or a BMW M3GTR Race car can still be competitive....otherwise why race if the majority of members who enter run a LMP car, which obviously will turn more laps then any other type of car?


Here is the list of the 50 cars that will be entering this years Le Man's race. Maybe we could setup our own 'classes' based on who runs what car.

Just an idea as I'd like to take part in this but fear I'll be wasting time if I have to compete for the total number of laps when others run LMP's...and I'm running say either the C5 or M3 GTR race car...

Indeed I was going to do just that, however it will only really matter when the lap numbers start coming in.
 
Hmmm, I'll be just of school then, sounds like a good way to start the summer off! I'll do this in but what else than my favorite car - the PlayStation Pescarolo C60 (I suppose that's the Prescarolo Judd)? I'll get a new one, 0.0km, and I'll post power when I get a set up I like. I'll run with the chicanes.
 
im running my BMW V12 LMR stock which i beleive from new is 799bhp

just a small suggestion Jpec07, i think it should just be run as the de la sarthe I because thats what the real life le mans will be, the one with the chicanes so it would make it even closer to the real life one.

I think it would make more sense to setup the divisions before the race and not during it, this way here those who are interested in participating but not wanting to race one of the LMP's can see what other similiar racers will be using.

I don't know...I'm just throwing out suggestions is all! Feel free to shot em' down if you'd like! ;-)

I'm still debating on what car I'd like to use....either the BMW M3 GTR or Vette C5 Race Car...??? Guess I should make a decision soon eah? LOL!
 
I think I'm up for this, possibly in the Minolta Toyota 88C-V 👍.
 
Well a part of the problem is that I don't know all of the big sports cars in GT4 yet. I'll name the divisions up top and as cars are named I'll add them (if I don't know, I'll ask a friend who is car savvy and loves the game more than life).

Of course in A-Spec mode, track with chicanes and finaly the car: I dont really know wich car I will use - probably I will try Mercedes (the model that was "flying" in LeMans in end of '90 - do u know wich car doI thing about ? I dont remember the model name). If not a Mercedes then I will use Toyota GT1 or Nissan - but first of all I must unlock all possible cars - i have only 8%of game done and 1 more thing - I must unlock 24hrace so AFAIK i must have 25% of game done ?
So I have some questions:
We will participate in time atack mode or in endurance 24h mode ? of course i prefer endurance mode (it will extract a will change and refuel - am I right ?)
When we will take that race ? In oryginal 24h race date? or sooner ? i prefer a late date cos I only have 8% of the game done :P
How much space will ghost replay take ??? its a serious question !
What does JGTCmean (sorry 4 a n00b question :/ )

Trust me, I don't mind the n00bity (although you may want to spend more time in the game - and paying attention in grammar class if you ever want to lose the n00b stigma). Yes, you do have to hit 25% of the game to participate. If you and your brothers want to race as a team that is perfectly acceptable, but because this is a collaboration with the real-life event, it will be happening on the same date as this year's race (read through the entirety of the first post). And JGTC is an acronym for "Japanese Grand Touring Car" - a car that races in the real-life All-Japan Grand Touring Championship (the Japanese equivalent of the ALMS). As for the ghost replay it takes as much space as a normal replay. I can't give you a number because I haven't taken the time to look.

(note: you can't all run the race separately because I highly doubt you have three PS2s, and the whole point behind this is to run the endurance in GT4 with the endurance in real life)

- that would be real n00bity.
Till the last Friday every one of my post had "im sorry 4 my poor english" sentence at the end of it, but that day some guy told me not to write it anymour cos my english is 'OK 👍 " As we all see not every one is so kind...

We dont mind about this cos we live at one flat (we r not to old) unless the race date is not at the weekend (AFAIR it was always saturday and sunday so its not a problem)

jpec, i think you should make everyone run their cars stock so that it isnt unfair, they dont have 1100bhp cars in the real one.

it really wouldnt make for a fair race at all.
 
I had been toying with the idea of making people run it stock, but then what about the people who have already done the irreversable tunes to their cars (i.e. Port Polish, etc.). I suppose they have ample time to get a new car if they need it. I'll toy with the idea through the day; if there's a revision made in the rules I'll let you all know.

OK, dont be sorry its no problem :) . As I said earlier we will take turns in driving one car. (at least I hope that it will happen)
 
OK ppl I already have my lovely MERCEDES-BENZ AMG CLK-GTR Race Car '98 ;-) so I will try 24h with it but first of all I have some questions:
Do we drive non tuned cars? the shop or prize versions without any ads ?
AFAIK In PAL version a real life track is CdlSI not II or im rong ?
Do we respect WRS rules ? no short cuts, 2 wheels on the track, no wall riding and touching ? - basically "real life" rules
How do you manage with car "jumping" on the track ? On CdlS it doesnt interfere with driving very much but in example on Nurburgring Nordschleife it is very annoying...

Im sorry but in my game (PAL ver.) LaSatrhe II is a track without chicanes and that sentence above makes me think that we will ride a track with schicanes - LaSatrhe I? if Im wrong then Im sorry. I know that its only a detail but its an important detail ;-)

Changing ground - are yougoing to cool your PS2 in some special way ? Cos 24h might by little dangerous 4 ours PS2 ?

I'd really love to but its a bit of a hastle for me, +10 GMT means that I'd be starting at 1 AM and finish on monday morning also, I could drive on sunday I guess but unfortuantely for now Im gonna have to give it a miss. Obviously there's some time until the race so I'll see what I can do then.
 
I'm not sure which track is which. We will be running the track with the chicanes (and I'm just about positive that track is LaSarthe II, but I could be wrong). I'll check it out next time I'm in the game.
