The PS3 can take it if you just pause. Yes, any risk of failure due to the PS3 dying is enhanced but that is just a statistical probability.

I know what I am talking about. I had my PS3 repaired 3 months ago because it kept crashing on the Tsukuba 9 hours. After the repairs i have done all the other enduros (bar nurburgring) with no problems... including doing LeMans twice due to "operator error" on hour 17.
 
I know this is kinda off topic but can you have multiple endurance races saved at once? I haven't tried yet cause I'm waiting for them to fix the glitch before I start them.

Yeh im 10 hrs in now & saved it a few times since. Have started backing up the save to usb stick though just in case anything goes wrong. Doing that you can quit the race if you get bored, back it up, reload gt5 canceling the race & then do a few other things like hop online for a couple of races or take some photos etc. When you're ready to get back on the enduro just copy the save over. Obviously you will lose any credits & xp you got while you were away from the enduro so dont be doing too much ;)
 
I get the 3 beeps when my PS3 freezes and doesn't want to turn off right away, as in ASAP.

just finished the 24 hr of Le Mans

basically did 3 8 hour sessions

had no trouble saving or resuming the race.
