any difference between 240sx and 180sx besides the engine?

and what is more recommended if you plan to swap in an SR20 anyway?

im just curious. thanks in advance.

Aside from what's under the hood, there are some other minor cosmetic differences between the 240sx and 180sx, but for the most part they're the same.

If you're going to swap in an sr20, definitely get a front clip. If not, find a good reliable company that sells full swaps.

Check http://www.srswap.com/ for more info.

Omnis, your location says you live in Florida. Florida is home to MANY import shops (not quite as many as southern cali, but still alot). I'd say look around in your home town or your local area for an SR20DET. Call up local shops and ask them questions about the swap and get advice there, that would be the best option.

If you plan on doing an SR20 swap, the first and MOST important thing to do is KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING! If you are unsure about something, either make some friends, or get it professionally done. You need to know the motor inside out, or you're going to have a mess on your hands. I did my current swap with some buddies of mine (more hands = less time), but my first swap (my old S14) was done by a prof shop in Phoenix.

SRSWAP is a great shop, thats where I got my current SR20DET from. GET A FRONT END CLIP! I cannot stress this enough. Unless you have a plan and a ton of money, get a front end clip and arrange the motor like how it is inside the clip. If you have enough cash for full exhaust system + FMIC + bov + piping then a simple motor/tranny combo will do you just fine, but make sure you get an uncut wire harness + ecu.

Upon putting my motor in, I ran dino (you select the weight according to your areas temp) for the first 500 miles, then switched up afterward (again, choose weight according to location). I also ran my stock exhaust system for 500 miles w/stock 180sx downpipe (heavy as hell and thin). I also kept it under 4k rpms during that period. After the 500 mile breakin, I did a full exhaust system up to the turbo extention, and I'm probably going to do a performance clutch/flywheel here sometime soon as it feels like it needs to be resurfaced bad.

Dont expect to pass emmissions, but learn to "make them see it your way". Talk to the sweathogs with their nasty ol 10 sec muscle daily drivers and find out where they take their car to get smogged.

An SR20DET is not something to be taken lightly. Its a large responsibility to have and to maintain. If you have any doubts at all about your mechanical inclination DO NOT GET ONE! Buy a pre-turbo'ed car like a talon tsi and learn from that. An SR20DET is a very BIG investment, only worth it if you have the cash to spend and the know-how to do your car up right. A person just getting his feet wet to sports cars should never try to start with an SR-swap.
