I hate to say it, because i WANTED this game to be everything it was hyped to be. Prior to GT5, I have been playing Shift, and was disappointed in the handling and wheel controller implementation, and also by how many exploits and popular cheats were unpatched online, and the whole online racing was a piñata-fest or simply driving hot laps because no one could keep up with you.
But, overall, I have to say I had much more FUN playing Shift. Yes, GT5 is starting to get BORING. B-Spec is an abomination. Put it this way. No driver EVER quits racing while he is still competitive and winning races to go manage a race team of MORONS that can't win without a good 100hp more than the competition. Drivers become race managers AFTER they are too old and slow to be competitive any more!
I simply don't get it. I could put together 100 new events, specifying all KINDS of cars and tracks that are completely ignored by the game, in an afternoon. Viper Spec. Skyline Spec. ALMS Spec (with different classes to race around - imagine driving the Audi TDI around a field of AI prototype AND GT2 and GT3 cars with heavy penalties for touching them). Drag racing on the Sarthe No chicane straight. Rally with RWD cars only. All the events we already have, but on different tracks.
As long as PD weren't so stupid as to make the game completely impossible to add events to (they had better NOT have done that!) slotting in 100 new events should be child's play. Don't need a car as a prize for them all. Credits is fine. If I've got enough different events to drive that I COULD get all the cars (or a sizable number) by prize credits without repeating certain events OVER and over and over and over, just to get those credits the hard way, this game would be GREAT.
But, after I had run the game through on Shift, there was a simple to use online system, easy to find fun races, easy system to ensure at least a BIT of equality between opponents, and I haven't played the offline game in Shift for 8 months or more. Didn't HAVE to. Didn't NEED to. OK, DLC added a bunch of cars and a few tracks, and I did those offline events that came with them, but online was still 99% of what I played. Online in GT5 needs to improve enormously PRONTO. I hate to say it, but every evening I am getting more and more tempted to put the Shift disc back in the old PS3, and go and have FUN again. At least, for all it's problems, I NEVER felt it was 'work'. Grinding for credits because there aren't enough events to not have to do that, and no credits for online success make GT5 'all work and no play'👎
