Organised in co-operation with the GTPlanet GP2 World Championship
Hello all, welcome to the 2nd unofficial GTPlanet Formula 1 World Championship for Formula 1 Championship Edition. This is being organised for fun and as such, drivers of all levels of skill are welcome!

Race organisers:

PAL-Europe:
Ardius
GT4 genius
Kakundoo
fishfash

NTSC:

Nicksfix
Sumpington
HEMIata

Race Schedule:
None Scheduled - Season Over
Rules
  • The maximum drivers participating will be 10, in order to keep teams even.
  • All drivers must be part of a team to compete.
  • Each team must have no more than 2 drivers.
  • Points are awarded as follows:
    1st:10 pts
    2nd:8 pts
    3rd:6 pts
    4th:5 pts
    5th:4 pts
    6th:3 pts
    7th:2 pts
    8th:1 pt.
Also, 1 point for fastest lap.
  • Drivers must start at least one race to be counted in the championship.
  • If you are unable to make the race, please notify me or one of the race organisors, you will be marked as a DNQ and recieve no points.
  • If you want to allow someone else to take your position at a team, or if a team wishes to make a driver change, then the driver being changed will effectively be forfeitting the championship. Any points scored before hand will still be counted, but any achieved afterwards will be counted towards the new driver. This does not affect the team's points however.
  • Collisions and damage will be on - which means we expect all drivers to wait for any drivers they have accidentally knocked out of the race and give their position back. It is the responsibility of the car behind to avoid accidents. The car in front should never have to wait if involved in an accident. If brake testing was involved, then obviously it will need to be proved.
  • During racing, it is also expected of all drivers to comply with the 1 block rule. Any drivers found to be repeatedly ignoring this rule will firstly have points docked, and, if the driver still refuses to comply, the driver will be kicked from the championship and lose all points.
The one block rule is referring to the standard rule employed in most motor racing, where only one block is allowed on a straight and then the driver blocking has to commit to that new line.
The rule applies only to the upcoming corner, it resets for the next corner and so on, so you can keep blocking through a sequence of corners, but you can't repeatedly block on a straight.
The main reason this is done is to avoid accidents, keep the racing going and also to encourage more elaborate strategies about how to keep ahead of the guy behind, such as allowing him to pass but then pressuring him into a mistake or taking new lines around the track which force him to allow you past, etc.
  • It is up to the drivers to ensure that everyone is racing for fun first and foremost and to ensure that everyone is given fair racing room and respected equally on the track. However, if arguments arise over racing incidents, warnings and instant bans will be enforced - all points will be taken off and the driver will be kicked out of the championship. With regards to this, I ask all drivers to please be aware of the "lag bubble" that is employed online in F1:CE and to take care when battling with another driver - sometimes it will seem you have not touched the other driver at all but in actual fact the lag bubble has caused you to take them out. Please keep this in mind and watch out for it, you will be expected to wait for the driver(s) as it is considered an unfair advantage.
  • Before each race there will be a 5 minute waiting period allowing for any late-comers to join in time for qualifying. We will not start the race earlier even if all drivers have joined.
  • Drivers are expected to allow faster cars past in the situations of being lapped, it is recommended that the slower car pick their place to allow the other driver past carefully, making sure its off the racing line and in a clearly visible place. As a general rule of thumb, the exits of corners onto long straights is a good place, allowing the driver behind plenty of time to realise what you are doing. Faster drivers must keep in mind this rule, as slower cars aren't always able to instantly move over at every corner safely.

Teams/Constructors
There are 5 available slots for teams of 2 people.
PAL-Europe teams
Brawn Grand Prix
Jordan Grand Prix
Williams
Team Lotus
Team Aguri

NTSC teams
Shaguar Racing
Team Lofus
Team Mopar
Team Aguri
Williams

Drivers
There are 10 available slots for drivers, driving for 5 different teams.

Driver seats are given out to all previous drivers of the championship, with the exception of the bottom 5 drivers, who will be dropped in favour of the 5 top drivers from the GP2 World Championship. Currently, this only applies to NTSC-region players because of the massive interest on that side. At the end of the season, all drivers currently in the championship will be offered a seat in the next one, but if over 5 drivers take up the seats, then the ones with the lowest points will be the ones who are dropped, otherwise, all 5 (or less) drivers will keep their seats.
Drivers being dropped at the end of the year will have the chance to earn back the seat by racing in the GP2 championship.
In the case of drivers dropping out permanently or temporarily, their seats will be filled with the current top GP2 driver, so in other words, any drivers wishing to join this championship should look into racing in the GP2 championship.

(Yes I am loving the fact I could use Damon Hill pictures for all the champions, lol :D )

Well, thats it, season is officially over! Amazingly, in both regions the championship has been very close and I am pleased that we have had so many drivers who turned up consistently. Not to say those who couldn't turn up to more or left half way through weren't good but its nice to have some consistencey in the drivers.

I have compiled a few stats (which I may continue to update as I work them out) for our season end:

So, quite an interesting season, I think it says a lot that both drivers who turned up the most (Kakundoo and FastDuck - both turned up to 100% of the races) were contenders for the championship. Generally, those that finished high on the leaderboards were those that have been with us for most of the season, but not completely everyone. I have to say that both HEMIata and kingmart1n could have been contenders for the championship if they had been here from the start, and they caught everyone else up pretty fast in the remaining races they entered.

We've had a few laughs, a few arguments but hopefully plenty of fun! It was a pleasure organising this and I will organise similar ones again in future.

I hope to use this championship as a great example for future ones in other games, one only needs to look at the tables to see consistencey in a good turn out are highly rewarding and the championship went down to the last race in both regions! Couldn't be happier with this result thankyou all for driving like greats! 👍

When GT5 comes around, I will certainly be looking up some of the names here up for championships I will be starting and teams I will be entering. My dream is to finally organise a 24 hour race or an endurance series in Gran Turismo online one day (or maybe even an F1 championship, lol), so when I finally get a chance to do that, people here will certainly get first choice.

The NTSC Championship and the limited numbers also made me think about feeder championships and the rules about who gets to drive and who doesn't, when it gets to GT5 there will be far larger numbers of players wanting to join and although we will probably have more than 10 players per race a restructure of the championship would be needed, possibly incorporating the GTP Divisions. I will lastly say thanks very much to Suede53 for taking the time he did to run the brief GP2 Championship, it was still a success even if few people turned up at the time.

Ok, heres the deal:
I've decided to organise a 2nd season of GTP F1:CE races. First of all, I cannot host and join every race, so I will be organising this on the forum side, I will need volunteers to host and steward the races. However, I will hold the right to join races when I can by filling in for any team that has an open seat (otherwise, I'll just race as a steward to observe the race).
I will take care of everything else though, PMs, championship tables and (hopefully) finding more drivers to join in.

So, anyone willing to help organise this with me? And anyone interested in racing?

Last season, Jordan were the constructors champions and Fishfash was champion, all previous teams and drivers are welcome to join again alongside any new teams. The teams will still be limited to 5 however, for the purposes of keeping this fair.

Lastly, I am open to discussion on the starting of a NTSC region championship which will of course need another person to help organise.
I'd also like suggestions on:
Suitable race times.
Suitable race dates.

The race rules will be as follows (after much testing and debating in the last championship):
Penalties: On - there will be no change of this. Yes, there are some unecessarily harsh penalties on some tracks, but the fact of the matter is you should learn to avoid them. This is not a matter of distrust, just keeping everything in check.
Collisions: On - not much to say here other than remember there is some lag and collision detection online in F1:CE is like a bubble.
Weather: Will change, I will usually tell everyone what type of weather it will be so people can practice.
Grid order: Qualifying - the fairest and simplest way to determine the grid.
Laps: 20, it would be full on race distance, but unfortunately thats the limit online.
Pits: On - wheres the fun with no damage?
AI: Medium - so that late comers dont join with a large advantage over some of us. I know most of us can beat hard AI easily, but were meant to be racing each other, and the AI is:
1. Distracting
2. Rediculously quick on certain tracks and in the wet.
3. Is more consistent and more likely to stay ahead because it isn't affected by collisions, therefore giving a late joiner a massive advantage. At least with medium the AI will keep up but not enough to beat everyone by a big margin (if at all).
4. Can sometimes make it very difficult to work out fastest lap, because it also displays AI fastest laps.

If this is what I think it is..and it's on the PS3 then I'm game!

Just one quick question..Can you be a team manager and still race?

No takers? Fine, I won't organise a championship!

Man don't take it personal like! I didn't post because I don't have my PS3 connected but I think i'll get an ethernet cable this christmas and get it set up. If I get that done then i'm definitely up for it. I'd like to be in Jordan grand prix with GT4Genius and have an all irish team 👍

Cool, yeah usually first driver gets to pick team name pretty much.

Good good. I'll ask Genius if he's interested again.

Cool, im going for Jordan again. Hope GT4Geniu wants to join me on this one:D

Hmm, Genius is getting popular....and theres only 1 seat left now at Jordan. Shall we open a Jordan B team? lol.
I'll put you in Jordan, then you'll have to decide amongst yourselves where Genius gets to go

So when we do the race, how do we decide who gets which cars?
E.g. Renault, Ferrari, Toro Rosso

It doesn't matter, online in F1:CE has all the cars with equal stats (so, Super Aguri is just as fast as Ferrari online), and only one of each car can be chosen (e.g., there can be only one person in a Toyota).
Choose whatever car you like, the teams here have no bearing on anything except to give an incentive for people to keep racing in the case of one driver dominating the series (like last time).

You also cannot change setups or pick tyres or fuel strategy. It sucks I know, but thats how they designed the online mode.

Let the fight begin!!:P
I'm up for it, with whoever wants. But one biggish problem. :guilty: I havent been able to sign into the PSN recently at all because my university still havent opened the ports for the PS. However I was planing on bringing the PS home next weekend so I will be available to play at weekends and all through christmas (within reason).

Ah, damn. Well, shall I let the other two race for you and hold you in reserve for later?
Also, does anyone else want to help me out organising this? I can't host the races because I am too busy.

Just being there, lol. You just need to create the races 5 minutes before they start, wait around at least 10 minutes for late-comers to join and make sure the races are completed. You also need to remember to send me the results (or post them here). I'll take care of PM'ing everyone the time, location, game name and password as well as keeping an up-to-date results table.

I'm in, a good chance to see how quick some of you guys are with everyone on equal stats.

Williams please.

Guess I better place a order on amazon.com then. :embarrassed:

It's gonna be interesting isn't it? Also, from the hotlap series you would think Alireza is a good 0.5 seconds per lap faster than anyone apart from Fishfash, but he said himself that when he gets time he puts in about 200 laps on average to achieve those times! I think in race pace there's no way he could be that quick. Whether he attends this I don't know however.

Ah yeah... Forgot this championship was for those with the PAL version of the game.:dunce: RACECAR told me about it earlier.:ouch:

Though a NTSC division does sound like a good idea. ;)

Consider yourself in. 👍

Hey I might want to be in an NTSC champ season, just let me know the facts.

Ok, finally some peeps who want to get an NTSC season going. I will start it up, but like the PAL season, it will require someone to host the races and report the results as I can't host the races. It will run seperately from the PAL season to keep it fair, seeing as one team might have the best players from both regions completely dominating the whole thing.
So who's driving for who and is there any new team name suggestions? The NTSC season can have different teams if wanted.

Also, time and day suggestions? I'm thinking of having both seasons running on the same days, but obviously different times will be needed for each.

I would be in for NTSC for sure. As for day/time Sunday afternoons are best for me. Around 4pm Central (US).

Ok, shall I just place you in any team, or do you want to (re-)name one?
Hmm, Sundays, interesting, might be a nice idea to have the races on Sundays with practice races on Fridays and/or Saturdays.
Ok, for the first race, it will be on the Sunday coming up - but it will be a practice race just to see who turns up and to give people some time to sign up. :)
For now, I'll put up some times and then people can say if they can or cannot race at these times or on the day.

Sorry Ardius, but I doubt I'll make it to Sundays race, so there is not much point in me being a co-organiser sadly. I might make a couple of races over Christmas though. Let Appie and Shaggy be together, because I wont make many races, and can you call my team Delorean??

I don't know if I'll be able to make it to the race on Sunday either as I have yet to receive my order for the game.
