According to Robbie Bach, the Xbox 360 will be backwards compatable. He announced it at E3.

Is this true?

Is the 360 going to regain itself as a competitor?

It will, but it´s not so simple. I´ve read that you´ll have to save some of the game on your hdd, and download something from Live.... didn´t bother to read the process all through.

Why complicate it so much?

Because it's all brand new hardware, and Microsoft didn't invest the time to make it happen, so this is the easiest solution.

Initially they weren't planning on it at all. But since it's almost a market musthave now-a-days, they had to make the last minute decision, and since it would be really hard to implement this late in the hardware stage, their only resort was emulation.

Im sure that they said it wasnt.....how has it suddenly become backwards compatable........it may regain itself slightly but it shouldnt be a 'special feature' to praise......it should be a standard thing!........

Ayup, what Robin said. Kind of a shame that they make you jump through hoops--and you can believe that there are a great many players not on Live. (COUGH)

Odd, I've never heard the term "regain" used in this manner. LOL ;) You can bet though that once 360 takes a foothold, MS will not weaken its own market by allowing Xbox 1 to remain a fore runner.

What do ya say... ?

Downloading things for Backwards Compatibility?

You may have read articles but you clearly did not understand them.

The issue with Backwards Compatibility with the Xbox360 is that Microshaft is switching to ATi from Nvidia. Therefore this conflicts with two issues.
1) Nvidia is entitled to *****.
2) All the calls from the Xbox 1 Game ask for specific things unique to the Nvidia gfx card. Therefore, software is needed to redirect those calls into the appropriate place, etc.

Idiots, it didn't just "suddenly" become backwards compatible. One of the iffy problems would be that implementing backwards compatibility will make the system cost a lot more (Probably add another 50-100 dollars). Also, the xbox360 currently IS backwards compatible with some or all xbox 1 games. [PROOF] Download the xbox360 ourcolony.net video (Search on Google). Keep watching and you will see many things:
1) Under the "Games" tab of the UI you will see the Fable 1 Icon along with "Xbox 1 Zone"
2) Keep watching and under the marketplace you will clearly see the option to download Halo 2 Maps.

I hate PS3 Fanboys who diss the Xbox360 - How the hell do you know that Sony isn't lieing? They lied about the playstation, as well as the playstation 2 ("If you got the software, you could use it as a supercomputer") - also they are saying they can sell a system for under a 1000 dollars that runs faster than a eight-way power5 server selling at half a million dollars.

Under any case, I am not an Xbox360 fanboy, I think the PS3 has some things that are better, but I hate it when people just diss and diss the Xbox360 and then back up their "diss" with incorrect information.

-WTF, every single post I've seen you make is dissing the Xbox360, you don't even look at the good things about it. Jeez, the PS3 has its advantages and the Xbox360 has its advantages.

You are a retard. Microshaft had this planned from day 1. Initially, they were planning on it but weren't sure whether or not to have the ENTIRE xbox 1 game library available because that would add alot to the cost of the system. Their only resort was emulation - Lol? are you an idiot? The PS2 Emulates the PS1, the PS3 will emulate the PS2/PS1. The only way to get it to run is through emulation.

tha_con: You need to look up your sources(make sure they are trust-worthy - a geocities webpage isn't trustworthy) before you talk, so spend some time when you type up your posts or shut the **** up.

You are the first person ever to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about 💡

You can read all of the early press releases from Microsoft Spokesmen, they all said that it was not a concern to be backwards compatible, and they were not planning on it. Those are facts.

And the Playstation 2 did NOT emulate PS1 games. The PS2 shared the same core, so there was no emulation needed, period. PS3 is different.

As for backwards compatiblility raising console price, that is fictional. It may cost money for research and development, but that is not the fault of anyone but Microsoft. Fact of the matter is, they did not value backwards compatibility as a company, and only recently (within the last few months) have they completely decided to fully back and support backwards compatibility.

As far as intelligence goes and my resources, you obviously haven't read any of my posts. I for one think that both consoles will be great, but just as code_kev get's called a fanboy for his reasons, I get called a fanboy for mine, I just have different values in a console, if that makes me a fanboy so be it, but I still enjoy games on anything as long as they are fun.

so what is it, limited backward compatibility, no backward compatibility or full backward compatibility??

code_kev
I get called a fanboy because I'm so UBER cool. And stuff.
And the fact you can't praise Forza without sounding retarded:D

so what is it, limited backward compatibility, no backward compatibility or full backward compatibility??
So far it's limited

Besides Halo 3, will the 360 have any better games than the PS3? And will the differnece between the graphics of the PS3 and 360 be the same as the PS2 and Xbox?

Besides Halo 3, will the 360 have any better games than the PS3? And will the differnece between the graphics of the PS3 and 360 be the same as the PS2 and Xbox?

define better games? i like games others dont! its all preference...

graphical difference? for right now as the specs are trickling down the pipes, the 360 looks like it once again has the video card power war in its hands, just look what the r520 did to a sli6800ultra, lets just say it wasnt even close....from sonys own pr machine it has double the power of a 6800ultra, or basically a 6800ultra in sli mode, the 360 on the other hand or at least its pc bretheren is breaking records threw the roof, first being a 10k+ on 3dmark05, if i remember correctly a sli'd 6800 pulled 6k.

in terms of cpu performance, that is very subjective, right now they are about equal, though i fear the 360 was designed for one purpose and one purpose only, where as the cell started out as a server chip then was implemented into the ps3 as a toned down chip (xbox p3 anyone?)

all in all as for right now, it will be up to the development teams talent on how best to use each system. unfortunately for us sony fans, MS has so many software tools with the 360 i fear the 360 will have easier coding and have more time to spend on ai and visuals and everything else...ps3 has no tools or very little from what i understand or have heard.

and i think a huge factor in games will be the 360's ability to get 720p 4xAA for FREE, or even 1080i 4xAA with no hit in GPU performance, something the ps3 cannot do (bandwith issues for starters)

hope that helps, it will be majorly dependent on the developers not just hardware this round...
