Don't be crabby Oshow.
A lot of the cars are beautiful to drive, putting a big smile on my face when I first take them out for a spin. The sound, cockpit view & sensation of speed is superior to any other game. With a good FFB wheel, it really feels like you're driving the car.
Unfortunately (as we've discussed endlessly), the physics don't quite live up to the initial impressions. However, I will say, that if you wanted to introduce a "civilian" to the pleasures of sim racing, Shift would be be the best place to start - outstanding immersion with relatively easy actual physics.
Although many of the cars are fun to drive - the Elise is so balanced, for the first time I understand why it is such an amazing little car for it's superior handling - I tend to gravitate towards the more "difficult" cars to drive because they offer more of a challenge in a game that's "too easy". For me, that would be the Honda S2000, the BMW 135i, the Porsche GT2, the Corvette Z06 (but I haven't tried all the cars yet).
There's "scary fast" & "difficult" - two entirely different things.
I reckon - given that alot of us love the GT3RS - that we should have a race round the Nurburgring with them. Too bad you can't set the number of laps...just whether its long medium or short.....we should do long.
I have a feeling that my 5 Most Enjoyable Cars list might change once some of the bugs are fixed with this game... BUT,
So far I like:
BMW 135i
Lotus Elise
Chevy Corvette Z06 (Works converted)
Lambo Mercielago (Works converted)
Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Thanks in part to Terronium-12 and his suspension tuning wizardry the last three cars in particular are very stable and responsive and just a blast to drive. If the force feedback effects with the G25 wheel was a bit better with this game, it would be REALLY amazing.
It takes a lot of skill to be able race bumper to bumper - everybody has to know the braking points very precisely. I'm sure we'll reach that point eventually with Shift. That's what made FC such a great experience: a small group of very fast experienced drivers who could race at the limit for lap after lap without any undue contact.
