Orlando, Florida (CNN)

Approximately 20 people are dead inside Pulse nightclub, Orlando Police Chief John Mina said Sunday morning, just hours after a shooter opened fire in the club. At least 42 people have been transported for medical treatment, he said.

Police have shot and killed the gunman, Mina told reporters.
"It's appears he was organized and well-prepared," the chief said, adding that the shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and "some type of (other) device on him."
Orlando authorities said they consider the violence an act of domestic terror. The FBI is involved.
The shooting began around 2 a.m., and an officer responded, Mina said. The officer engaged in a shootout outside the club, after which the gunman ran into the club.
"That turned into a hostage situation," Mina said. Authorities were getting calls from people inside the club but away from the gunman, the chief said.

More police rushed to the scene and broke down a door with an armored vehicle, helping some 30 clubgoers flee to safety, Mina said. At that point police shot and killed the gunman, he said.
CNN affiliate WKMG video captured clubgoers carrying injured people from the club.
"It's just shocking," said Christopher Hansen who was inside Pulse. He heard gunshots, "just one after another after another. It could have lasted a whole song," he said.
"Everyone get out of Pulse and keep running," the nightclub posted on its Facebook page shortly after the violence began.
Orlando police warned residents to stay away from the area, and urged people not to call their offices. They declined to provide the number of casualties, saying details will be available later. Bomb sniffing dogs are on the scene.

Domestic terror? Another report says international terror.

Seems undecided according to the latest;

BBC
An FBI spokesman said they were investigating whether the attacker was a "lone wolf". He said the attacker appeared to "have leanings towards" radical Islamist ideology but it was not yet clear whether this was a case of domestic or international terrorism.

Well, if he has any connection to ISIS, then obviously it is a case of international terror.

Not automatically, depends on the connection. If he's a sympathiser who's simply been talked into doing something then I'd still think of it as domestic.

It is important to minimize any premature panic and political affects at this particular point in the analysis.

Oh boy, the Republicans and conversatives are gonna use this to advocate for Trump...
Just said that to dispell the myth that Republicans are responsible for mass shootings in America. I know that the news cycle on Monday will push the narrative that it was a right wing gun nut that killed those people, when it wasn't true at all.

Democrats and Republicans are both right-wing outside America. In this case it appears (and this is speculation) that the killer was anti-diversity and pro-execution. That's a right-wing position fo-sho.

The political compass shows that extreme authoritarianism is common to both left and right.

It's likely too early to blame this crime on heterosexuality and lax gun controls.

The first is a reasonable presumption at this time, I haven't seen anybody mention the second thus far... that's only a matter of time of course.

ISIS Announced Florida Threat THREE Days Ago: “We Will Attack Florida”

On Saturday night an Islamist extremist murdered 20 people at a “Pulse” gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Law enforcement sources told CBS News the gunman has been identified as Omar Mateen, a U.S. citizen from Port St. Lucie. Mateen was born to Afghan parents. CBS News reports Mateen has no apparent criminal history and that authorities are investigating whether he had ties to Islamic terrorism.

CBS News reports that authorities are “leaning towards Islamic terrorism” as a motive. Law enforcement sources said the shooting had similarities to the terror attacks in Paris and Brussels. Authorities are also investigating whether the shooting was a hate crime.

Edit: Citing a New York congressman, Fox news is reporting the suspect was under FBI investigation prior to the crime, and had received "training".

This is likely the worst terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01.

Islamic terrorists have a fetish for killing infidels, especially LGBTs. Right now they are throwing gays off the roofs in the middle east.

There's no need to bring politics into this.

I find it appropriate to bring politics into this, because it is foolish politics which increased the risk of such actions happening in western world ... and I'm sure Trump will have something to say about it.

Instead of mourning the loss of so many victims, we are already playing the blame game.
The friends and families of the victims are probably in mourning. But somebody has to be responsible for public safety, somebody has to be alert for ongoing threats, somebody has to figure out what the problem is. This is the 23rd mass shooting since Obama took office. If mourning were going to fix things, it would have already done so.

This is your scumbag Pakistani nationalist.

Do we know if he is Sunni Muslim, if so chances of ISIS relation could be high.

I do know Afghanistan is a Majority Sunni Country.

Oh come on, seriously? There's a high chance that he's got an Wahabist ISIS "relationship" because he's possibly Sunni Muslim? I'd say that attacking a club with an assault rifle was definitely a clue... but otherwise you're way off.
