For example, the initial tire selection is racing-hard. However, this is only so the AI will compete on racing-hard tires.
Once you enter the race quick-tune options are used to change your tire type to racing-soft. This will change your tire type and not theirs.

I hope you all enjoy the race.
Be creative and keep it clean.

Those are just some of the cars that can meet the standard.
Take a look at your favorite and see if it will fit into the race. :D

Good luck and remember that this race is staying open so there is no deadline for posting a time.

You know I'm up for this one Kent :D. Tomorrow I'll have a go, this should be a sweet race 👍.

Sweet! I'll have to give this a go! Sounds really fun, especially after completing the 24 Hour enduro collaboration last week during the real 24hr of Le Mans Race... :)

Like I could miss this one! 👍 ...O.G. :D

I went with an old WRS moderator philosophy when setting up the final stages of this race...

Limited testing and I never completed the race.

This makes it so I can run the race and still feel like my ethical standards have not been compramised.

However, for that reason I really don't know how the race will turn out.

Hell, there is even a chance that if the AI doesn't pit, we might not be able to win. :trouble:
That would be something to see. :D

I plan on getting a full race in today so I should have a race time and review to post later today.

I'm also thinking about the idea of everyone getting to turn in as many times as desired.

Might be fun to try the race with different cars since each car gets different AI competition.
Or for that matter, it might be fun just to run the race with various cars you really enjoy racing.

I don't know lol, but for now you guys take your time and enjoy the racing. :)

Btw, if I set this up for a GT division as well would any of you be interested?

I'm working on it already but I would hate to post another thread.
How about I return with details and let you all decide? ;)

Till then,
-Kent

Great idea!!

Now to try and get this AND the WRS done...

Now this looks like fun - will have to find a little time to run this

Be careful about your runs everyone. :D

I've spent the last 2 days working on this combo and its a constant battle to win.

Looks like I achieved the goal of creating a some-what challenging race.
It's not too hard or impossible.
However, the race seems to put me in the position where a last lap come-back is always needed. :trouble:

Maybe not though.
The faster I get with the combo the more I notice new spots to gain time or even pass the ai a little earlier.

I've also managed to find a great car to run with.
The BMW V12 LMR will certainly be the first car I finish the race with... Then it's on to the GT cars. :sly:

Anyway, don't be shy about posting times, I will be checking in here regularly. :)

I'm surely interested, Kent. 👍

But just a question... why do we must choose hard tyres since they can make more than 2 laps (following the 2 stops rule) ?

Edit, i misunderstood this point... sorry.

Ah, hey tannis,

Glad to see you stop by. :D

Don't worry about asking any questions, I have plenty of time to answer any questions that you all may have.

But hey, I see you edited to explain that you see why I went with that set up.

After running the race a few times now I have seen what Old Geezer noticed... Only the AI leader pits, everyone else stays out for the entire race.

Today is going to be another day for me to attack this race (as long as I can put down Virtua Fighter 4P: Evolution!).
(btw, talk about a buy... $9.99 @ best buy for a brand new copy!) :D

Oh and one more thing, if any of you test the GT cars on this setup, please inform me on how it goes.
I tried it with my McLaren and it was in a bad position.

Since the Mclaren starts with pretty high hp it is grouped with cars that dog it once you reducethe hp to 550.
Point is, if any of you run a gt race, let me know how it turns out based on the car you run.

I didn't engineer the race for the GT class so any feedback is appreciated. :guilty:
The LMP class on the other hand. :trouble:
I specifically set up the race for the LMPs. :D

Well, there is a 1st time for me, 20'31.591, using a BMW V12 LMR '99 (794hp/900kg).

I noticed that only 1 AI car doesn't pit (!), all others did at lap 4.

I also tried a few other cars and i only have 1 thing to say: soft tires are too soft. :D

Edit: Finished 1st by 30+ seconds.

Ijust did some GT races. Did some in the McLaren F1. I gave that up as I was against the R390 and the like.

I then tried the RX8. I was up against the F1, Panoz, 350ZLM etc. The only car that pitted was me. I did a good run (for me) with no mistakes and still came in nearly 40 seconds down.

I've just completed the race with both a LMP and GT spec car. Both races were 100% clean.

LMP challenge

2000 Ford Falcon XR8

719hp (+20%)
1215kg (-10%)

Final Time: 22'59.156 (3rd, +25.118 behind leader)
Fastest Lap: 3'36.203 (Held up by traffic - should have been about 3'30)

GT challenge

2000 Ford Falcon XR8

545hp (-9%)
1215kg (-10%)

Final Time: 24'26.913 (6th, +2'01.256 behind leader)
Fastest Lap: 3'50.465

Well let me ask...

Do you think I should remove the GT part of this race, then in a week or two post up a gt engineered race?

I tested the LMP to make it a close race that you can win.
I'm sure I can do the same for the GT class of racers.

Also, thanks for the input daan. 👍

I'm going to think this over for a little while and see what I come up with... Then check out what you all think, then I will decide about altering the gt setup or even starting a different GT based race. :D

Edit:
Btw, that's an odd pit schedule tannis.
Did you start the race with everyone on Hards?

Also, I will update a leaderboard now that there are some times posted. :D

GREAT RACE Kent!
Figure I'd best get a time or two up before the "Fast Guys" discover it!

LMP Challenge

PESCAROLO/Courage C-60 [797HP/900kgs] 20'32.009

BENTLEY Speed 8 [800HP/900kgs] 20'17.558

Yep.. I verified if all the things were alright...

And another thing:
Did anyone of you ever get rear tires to red ?
Because after just a bit more than 1 lap, it's getting orange in the Hunaudières then red at Mulsanne, very hard to handle ..! So i lose a lot of seconds there, every 2 laps.

(using a DS2, MT, TCS turned on)

I think it's better to leave both LMP and GT on the same thread. IMO it makes it more interesting to see the different classes head to head.

New car, new time

23'18.161 DTM Astra 544bhp 1040kg

Finished the race 3rd, 29 seconds down on the McLaren F1, but only 2secs behind the Zonda LM

Kent, stats for the RX8 were 550bhp and 1045kg

Tannis

Hiya Tannis: On my one attempt with the SAUBER the rear tyres were ORANGE about 2/3 of the way thru Laps #2, 4 & 6 but never RED. Using DFPro w/TCS "ON".
Hope this helps...O.G. :D

GEEZER UPDATE:
I was pretty naive about Arcade in GT3, "assuming" all the cars in a certain class would be quite similar in performance. Therefore, finding this NOT to be the case in GT4 isn't much of a surprise...BUT I had NO idea how MUCH difference there'd be! Cars I thought would be "Rockets" flat out are NOT & at least one that I didn't expect much from has pleasantly surprised me!
Ran the big "Merc" first in today's session & was pleasantly surprised. Time was just slightly off the Sauber's pace. So I re-ran the Sauber to see if running a lot of laps lately would improve my time. I was 2 seconds SLOWER than the time posted above but found a FANTASTIC race where I was only able to win by 2.7xx Seconds. 👍 I'm of the opinion now that there are "Slow" & "Fast" "AI" combos. You'll find a MUCH BETTER Race w/the "Fast" Combo for sure! :scared:

Pleasant surprise: 👍
MERCEDES-BENZ AMG CLK-GTR Race Car '98 [800HP/900kg] 20'47.733

MAJOR Disappointment: 👎
PESCAROLO / Judd [794HP/900kg] 20'38.743

Off for another test session...O.G. :D

EDIT:

GT Class
Tom's Castrol Supra (JGTC) [546HP/1045kg] 23'14.254
(Finished 1st / M.O.V. +12.565 Seconds)

BTW: Has anyone else noticed how "Well Behaved" the "AI" is here???

Old Geezer
Has anyone else noticed how "Well Behaved" the "AI" is here???
Except when braking. I keep seeing the AI trying to rear end me unless I brake very late in to some corners.

I believe this track and combo is a testament to the AI in GT4.

Everyone complains about it.

However, I find that it is far better than anything in GT3.

Basically I see it like this:
If you pass the AI and make a legitimate pass, the AI will stay back and give you enough room to not make any contact (not even rear-end you).

On the other hand, if you pass them with BS passes at the last second or passes that wouldn't "fly" in real racing, you will quickly find the AI all up in your tail. ;)

This is no joke either...
I've been running the combo a ton now and the only time I notice the AI make contact with me is when I cut them off.

As "Somebody" said, there can be times when they will rear end you for braking too early, but that's part of the game now.

In the old days it was the AI braking too early causing you to rear end them... Now its the other way around and I happen to like this.
I would rather have them braking at the last second than have them brake way early and cause me to rear end them at every turn.

Beyond those points for the AI I've also found that when they go "off the line" by just a little bit and one of us passes them during that, they will not just bash their way back onto the line.
They will be patient and wait until they can jump right onto your arse and draft you all the way down the straight.

Furthermore, I've also noticed that you can count on the AI not randomly changing lines in mid-straight or anything like that...
I've been in the situation where coming onto "the big straight's first section" I was in 4th place.
Running up on the AI, then passing one while another is passing on the other side (creating a 3 wide passing event) was actually possible without any contact.
Back in the day you could count on one of the AI getting scared and jerking the wheel to create a collision.
Not this time though... Everyone just stays on the line they have and waits it out until everything can go back to the single file line that works so well on the straights.

Bottom line:
This race has given me far more respect for GT4's AI than I ever expected to have.
Sure it's not perfect but what game does have perfect AI?

btw, I will be working on laps today so hopefully I will get a time to post.:D

Absolutely agree about it being better than GT3. I think a lot of people (not all) only complain about the AI because they don't know what race rules are like in real life.

Just had a run at this race in the Audi R8. I was wondering if we could set up some kind of penalty system if we go off or hit a wall? I'm having a hell of a time keeping everything squeaky clean for 6 laps, but maybe its just me . I managed a 19'59.024 with the Audi, but I had two major problems with the race in that I came in too hot into the pits and couldn't slow down enough and ended up cutting that little portion there, and 2nd was a wall tap the cost me about a second right before T1. I wasn't planning on submitting this as a time because of those problems, but in the future I think it might be easier with a penalty system.

I don't really have probs to make it all clean.. the only thing is still about red tires...... :indiff:

At least the only cars that don't make it are Pescas..

I think that tires/stops rules should be a bit more free... but if i'm the only person concerned by that prob, nevermind.

I'm not sure what to say fellas. :guilty:

It would probably be easiest for everyone if I just changed it to a free-for-all 6 lap shoot out.
(good idea for a series! 6 race, 6 lap? :trouble: ) :D

However, I originally intended this race to be a unique experience where interaction between the AI and the driver would be maximized.

The AI, as good or bad as they are, still can not keep up with any human.
Plain and simple.

That is a problem for those of us who want to run full out and still interact with the other cars on the track. :irked:

My original plan of attack was to lap each competitor several times.

However, in the end I found that to be lacking in the "interaction" department... So, bascially, I went to a harder format for passing.
The first straight is now a place to just catch up with the pack.
After that it becomes a short race to the front and about 2 minutes of a first lap.

Finish that first lap and move onto an uncontested second lap.
This is where the tires serve as the handicap though.
With soft tires we need to pit; the AI doesn't. :trouble:
They usually catch up and the entire process starts over- pass, push, pit. :dopey:

Sorry if you all weren't really looking for the exact experience I've put together.
I'm honored that you all still took the time to try it out.
I do hope you have enjoyed some of the running. ;)

Also, tires wearing out in 2 laps with tcs in the LMR v12?
That's why I probably couldn't come close to keeping up with you in a full-on hotlap or unrestricted race.

Man, you must be going flat-out like crazy! 👍

The only cars I cant get 2 laps in are the old LPM cars, the rears just get eaten up in 1 lap. In the Audi, my tires were barely orange by the end of 2 laps, no problems whatsoever. The AI only gave me a hassle up to T1, and once I passed them on the turn going onto the straight I never saw them again.

Well I just finished a race with the CLK GTR.

I'm not adding it to the leaderboard but I did save the replay and mark down time.

Horrible race overall. :(
Still fun. :D

20'55.890 CLK GTR

2 minor offenses with self-induced penalties.
1) Coming out of chicane2 on the main straight:
I ran it wide on the exit and crossed over into the red sandy concrete... Jumped back to the right and got far enough that all 4 wheels were to the right of the left-hand-rumblie.
2) On the first turn going into the main straight, I passed the audi and went just over the exit rumble.

With proper attention I could have done much better.
I plan on doing so shortly. :D
