Anyone know any good 7 string songs? Real music only, no nu metal crap.

I love And Sadness Will Sear by Trivium.

Meshuggah's albums Destroy Erase Improve and Chaosphere. They moved to 8 strings after that. Dream Theater has a few songs as well, such as The Dance of Eternity and This Dying Soul. All Adagio songs use sevens as well.

I believe Steve Vai's uses a 7-string guitar on the whole WhiteSnake album "Slip of the Tongue" which has some pretty good songs. Other than him and KoRn, I don't really know many people using 7 strings

Oddly enough I came across this one just last night.

^Someone should tell that guy he bought a bass instead of a guitar :P.

"Citizen Erased" by Muse is a 7-string song. Korn, Deftones, and Unearth are three bands that use 7-string guitars. I think Chevelle may have switched to 7-strings recently, too.

I would think the tuning would most often be (low to high)

B E A D G C F#

So basically a 5 string with an extended high range.

What's funny is that a lot of the old schoolers like Keith Richards actually went to 5 strings for ost of their guitars.

Any song, as long as you have some good theory down...

I would think the tuning would most often be (low to high)

F would be the highest...6 string with an extra higher string, yeah. F# would be the next loest and is currently the lowest possible string.

Unearth use 7-strings, you'd probably like them if you like Trivium. A few Joe Satriani songs are on 7-string too I believe (ie: 'Mind Storm')

I believe Steve Vai's uses a 7-string guitar on the whole WhiteSnake album "Slip of the Tongue" which has some pretty good songs.

In addition to his work with Whitesnake, Vai's entire Passion and Warfare solo album also has extensive use of 7 string guitars. I am not as familiar with his later solo work, but I would imagine his discography would include quite a bit more music written for the instrument.
