I am sorry for being late.

I think, I am going to have to scrap the random pick. I think I am going to use all of those who signed. The main problem is trying to pick a variable. A good one would be comparing times between the different racers, or what is the approx time that it takes to complete with a normal car. With normal I mean stock. I prolly going to pick an arcade car. That is one test. Then I will pick another car (in sim) to compare the different results with tire wear. Still I need some more variables. I was trying to use with some statistics, the cars that perform best at tracks with long straights and tracks with lots of curves. I will pick mostly pick a heavy car, and a light, like the Viper and Lotus Elise, and try to demonstrate with the times made by you, that a lightweight car with less power can do a better time on a tracks with lots of curves than a heavy powered car. Nice idea, dont you think?
 
alright. My opinion.

Stock arcade cars... good idea.

Do a comparison of 2 tracks and 2 cars. Go with your wieght vs power idea.

Use something like midfield vs deepforest.

Then just pick the 2 arcade cars you want to use as a refference of wieght being an important factor.

One thing Im wondering, is what criteria are you trying to meet? (for the project itself. Do you have to have a certain number of variables? etc.)

This would probably help everyone in an effort to help you along your way.

good luck as always and Im sorta glad to see you decided to go with the drivers that have signed and not 30 specifically. (you should start the working as soon as possible to allow yourself time. I learned the hard way that waiting till the last minute is always bad :( )

No, there are no specifications or limit on setting variables. My main problem was finding them. So I am going to try to prove the power vs weight "theory" then it would be a nonsense to use randomly picked cars.
 
Rather than use two totally different cars you might get a more interesting result by using one car but with two different levels of weight, and two different levels of power. If you wanted to add variables, you could do different levels of downforce, and/or different tires. Note that the number of combinations goes up as 2 raised to the "number of variables" power (i.e. 8 for 3 variables, 16 for 4 variables etc.)

Another approach would be to use weight and power at three levels each. This gives 9 combinations. Since two points only define a straight line, but three points describe a curve, this gives a better picture of the effect of each variable.

If you want to get a little more complex, you can repeat the 9 combinations for two different levels of downforce, or with hard and soft tires etc. This would give 18 combinations. Then rather than have each driver try all the combinations, have each driver randomly assigned to do some portion (half or a third) But have every driver do the medium weight- medium power combination at each level of the third variable. You can then adjust each drivers times proportional to how far off they are from average on the medium-medium points. This adjustment would compensate for differences in the driver ability at each point.

Whichever way you go, you need to be alert for and control unintended variables. The most obvious one here is "practice effect". Each drivers times will improve somewhat as he drives, so the combinations that he tries later will look "better" than the ones he attempts initially.

It's also important to choose the levels of each variable carefully. If the hp difference is 10 sec/lap but the weight difference is only 0.1 sec/lap, the effect of the weight change will be lost in the "noise". Do some testing before setting the levels.
