78,000 credit oil change

A large number of the cars I purchased I have yet to use.
I heard that not only does the oil change give you a HP boost, but if you drive the car before doing one, it will never get the boost when you finally do change it.
I figured it was best to just start changing the oil immediately upon purchase of all future vehicles.
And to make sure my current cars all got taken care of, I decided to change the oil in all of them.
Not only did it take forever, but it cost me over 78,000 credits!
Good thing I didn't try to do the engine overhaul on all of them.

Do you regularly change the oil as the first act when buying a car?

If its a used car you have to change the oil most of the time. If its new it has new oil in it.
 
If its new the oil is alright, but still can be re-done. If oil is truly new it will say the oil doesn't need changing.

78k for oil changes? Do you have 312 cars?! Quite a lot...
 
I only change the oil if it is standard and I'm going to use it. No point in wasting cash changing oil for a car that is gonna sit in my garage and collect dust.
 
i almost always change my oil but sometimes i dont cause in ways it seems a waiste cause its a brand new car... but still you could use the extra horses
 
You should change your oil on ALL cars you buy, even brand new 0.0 miles cars from new dealership as I've seen an increase in power from 0.0 miles cars aswell as used ones with 500 / 5000 / 50,000 miles on them.

It sounds crazy but it's 100% true.

Whenever you buy a new car, check the power, then do an oil change, and you will see that some of them will get a few extra ponies..

New cars also get a HP boost from an oil change, just not as big a boost as used cars get.

Actually, if you look at my signature, I have 334. But some of the new cars gave a message that the oil was good and did not need changing. Other new cars, and all used cars, allowed changes.

I pretty much have every car I really wanted in the game.
Now I am starting to just buy stuff to aim for the 1,000 car trophy.
After I get it, I'll probably sell back 700+ of them!
 
The brand new Nissan GTR spec-V 09 has 478 hp, if you do an oil change it already has more than 500hp. It is possible that the factory oil is not the best out there. The better the oil the smoother/the less friction inside the engine I guess and so we get more power, maybe GT auto oil is the best one for racing cars while factory is just a default cheap one.
 
I rarely change the oil in my cars unless the oil light comes on. I still get a boost in hp though, so I don't know what you mean by not getting the boost unless you change the oil before you drive it?

Edit: When you have a new engine, it is normal to use oil that is not so good as it helps to run the engine in. If you change the oil too early maybe you should end up with less power than if you run the engine in properly? Just a thought.

You should be cautious with this strategy if you buy a car for the seasonal events.

I did an oil change on the GT-R 07 and it took me 1bhp over the limit. The car is probably useless for the event now, as driving it in a couple of races La Sarthe has increased the bhp even more.

Keep driving and bhp will decrease again.
15-20 laps on an oval should do the job.
 
I changed oil in my 908 after every 'like the wind' race, and the tuned engine ended up at 927 hp, from somethin' around 898 originally.
 
Imagine how much money PD would make if they came out with Gran Turismo brand motor oil 💡 It could be re-branded Mobil One but it would still sell. :sly:

A Red Bull X2010 comes with 1438HP if you do an oil change it will go to 1509HP so its worthwhile doing on some cars.

As a rule I only do the cars I will be driving. The rest of the few hundred Nissan's I will probably never get a chance to try.

You don't have to do it, it's completely optional. Things to take note of , GT5 also has a break in period for engines, after about 600 miles you get a horsepower boost that stays until your get engine degradation sets in, then you have to do an engine rebuild, basically putting a new engine in the car if you want to get your power back.
 
I do an oil change on every new car I purchase. It is one of the cheapest mods out there for extra HP. If you don't want the extra power, then don't do it. I'll take it every time. It is a no brainer. I don't understand why you would not want to do it.
 
Always do an oil change and a car wash on my cars whether I would drive them normally or if I just have them in the garage.
 
I avoid this by not using standard cars.

Depends on what I want for power.

It's not so tedious. It only takes like thirty seconds to bring up the GT Auto menu, get the oil change, and exit. If you're happy getting a 300-horsepower car from the dealership and it only running 279 horsepower brand new, knock yourself out, but I'd hate to lose that other 21 horsepower just because I didn't want to take half a minute for a 250-credit oil change. You would have to spend several times that many credits for upgrades that give you far less horsepower. Then, from my observations, this 250-credit oil change not only brings you back up to the 300 that you should have been at but even a bit more, so it's even more valuable still.

As for the magic of it.... I'm not enough of a motorhead to know how much difference motor oil makes in the real world (just that it's important to protecting the engine), but I've seen motor oil companies claim extra horsepower advantages. I've seen it suggested that the "magic oil" in the game is a better, race-grade motor oil that beats the pants off of off-the-shelf motor oil.
 
I used my stealth McLaren for the first time yesterday, first thing I did was change the oil before I raced it, gave me a boost in HP. But yeah I change the oil on all my cars before I use them.
 
To have so much gains, the "oil change" in GT must probably at least also change the air filter and clean the engine intake. In real life cars don't lose power with old oil. Some special additives do something on that aspect, but probably more than 10 times less than what happens in the game.
 
Be careful with your oil changes. In the seasonal events your car could be over by 1-10 hp which will require you to re-buy that car all over again. Driving it around til the hp decreases would take awhile and the seasonal events have expiration dates.
 
As a general rule yes always change the oil and change it often afterwards. Only exception is if you are trying to meet a HP requirement that the oil change may push you over like in the seasonal events for example.

Yes I had to re-buy 2 cars b/c of this, made me mad....
 
I usually only do an oil change if I buy a used car. Other than that, I never do them. Also, I never noticed that hp go up after them...
 
I always do oil changes. Used or new. And I always get BHP boosts. So real... Plus, you will get all the BHP back if you have driven the car before.
