Well folks, My Iroc is on the fritz. Well, it always is. So I haven't had it insured or registered for a good time because I just had it sitting in my garage while I was fixing it up. So finally I bite the bullet thinking I finally fixed enough of it and insured and registered it last week. I knew I had a brake job, A valve stem in needd of replacement and fluid changes to go on it then it would be "road safe" again. I get everything done this weekend and took it out for the first time in a longtime Saturday night. Everything was fine and she ran like a champ. Well today I wake up to a 50 degree day. In Florida that is cold weather. I get in the car and try starting her. . . No go, I try again and finally a third time then it struck. Massively battery drain, A sound that the Starter is sucking too much power and sounded like it is not lined up properly with the Flywheel. To add to it I can say the fuel injectors are probably clogged up too. So I have a lot of work to do to this car again . . . :( and the fact being is I might have to push a 3600lbs car backwards 15 feet and then turn it and foward up a slight gradient 15 feet to get it onto concrete because it is parked on grass right now. . . I guess this is when you add the phrase "Sucks to be me!"

Cool. You should get a new car. Can I recommend a 1995ish Toyota Corolla wagon?
Of everyone to post, I am not surprised you were the first to jump on this M5. . . Unfortunately I don't have the funds to buy a new car M5, unless you want to buy me and Evolution, I would not mind that :D. But less, I am a poor person. I am currently getting off being jobless for 4 months out of this year, which has kindly set me back a significant deal this year and wiped out my savings for the new car I wanted. I couldn't even afford a $500 crappier if my life depended on it now. But I would like to know why you suggest said Corolla wagon and reasoning behind it. You always have an interesting insight about autos and well versed in your reasoning :D.

Have you seen the ****? Dude, three words: sex on wheels.

I'm actually kidding. I teach at college and have recommended it to a couple of students looking for a car - it's got huge amounts of room, it's not slow, it's reliable, it's fairly new (seven years old), it's cheap (it depreciated more than the sedan), and it's going to run for the entirety of their college career. It's really a great college kid's car - very good all-around.

Might fit in, but how come the avoidance of the Evolution huh?

I see the reasoning behind it, but I'm outta the 'ole civic and ready for a sports car bachelor years thing :D It is however a good suggestion :D

I can't afford anything else. I'm presently attempting to buy more money, but I'm failing.

Yeah the Green tree I planted out back apparently died due to the cold weather in Florida

Wait a second....

You have an old IROC...that doesn't run.....parked on the lawn?

Sorry, but that's possibly the most stereotypical thing ever!

Please don't tell me that you describe your hair as "business in the front, party in the back" and work in an auto parts store.....

lol, J?k

Well, no I don't have a mullet but that is hillarious  that made my morning. . . Do me a favor if you got that Iroc in the rear, Check out what year. You can do that by the tenth number/letter on the VIN or just actually can you pm me the VIN, I might want to purchase some parts off of it :D

Actually the green plants in my last place were going great, we had a whole cycle and clones. Great way to subtract yourself from the movement of any product :D Also better then anything we had here in Florida. BTW, to keep this on topic, I see on the way to work everything a late 70's Trans Am metallic Blue with white racing stripes on it. Its rear is covered in weeds. It is a shame to see such a gorgeous car like that. I wish I had some flow because I would go make a purchase attempt with it :D

Also to add to the Chevy I do want to say how it felt to drive her last Saturday night.

She has more power then Stock power I could tell that with just the Automatic tranny squelching it in a gear change to second and into third. The mechanic that owned it before me did some tuning to the engine apperantly. I am going to open her up this weekend to find out what has been done because I know she will also burn a '03 GT quite nicely. Now where is that Cobra at???

Sorry to diss on anyone who owns a GM thing...

...but is there really any GM car out there, new or old, that doesn't have some sort of premature problem?

GM is General Muckiness.

Umm...where did I say that I had an IROC?

Please drive something other then Mazda then tell me how bad GM's are. I've seen old truck run forever with out problems. I got a friend who has a 1988 Cutless and he's only ever changed the oil and just basic maintence, never once had a problem.

My truck has almost 12,000 miles on it and the only problem I've had is that I broke my seat belt, and it was me who broke the belt. I've only ever done maintance on it.

As long as you take care of your automobile it will last a long time, doesn't matter what company made it.

And your point is about the problems? For people that are proffecient with automobiles it is a minor issue. I love working on cars so it is no problem to me. I know also that Mazdas do have their list of common issues along with every other manufacture. Mazkid I agree most GMs have issues, but it doesn't really mean you are knocking them with your comment, it is just a generalization that is mostly true. I know people with GM cars from the 70's and 60's that don't have any problems because they maintain them. It is like the rotary engine... You got to maintain it :D

Heh. Well, Joe, I really don't know anyone with a GM car that would let me behind the wheel of it(actually, I've only been behind the wheel of a handfull of cars just because I rarely ask to drive anything else except my '3), but back in the day, my mom owned a '78? Firebird, and, well, driving down the highway 1 day it became a true "Fire"bird, flames and all. Hehehe.

OK, so all GM products aren't crap. :) Sorry for the random comment...I gotta stop doing that.

thats ok we all make random comments, I'm guilty to.

Well, finally after many labor hours sunken into the blue heap, the Blue Beast has arrived at work today :D. It is truly a distinct feeling to know you accomplished something after sinking a little cash, some pretty mean looking knuckles and energy into something and see it all together. She is not a beautiful sight, but man does she run great. I found a few little secrets in this second hand car that I picked up for next to nothing. A mechanic had her before me and treated her real nicely with her engine. A re-tuned ECU - (the worst ecu GM has ever come out with btw) - different fuel and air mixture then stock, a few extras I am going to keep hush hush about and voila. A fugly Mustang beater :D

Now I just need to name her :odd:

Sounds like you just need an alternator. That should take car of the power drain. Possibly a new battery.
Then all the stuff Joey (Blazin' Extreme) said.

Well, I already replaced the alternator about 2 months ago and putting the DMM on the power and ground to the alternator, it was pumping out 14.3 volts. Here is where the story takes a twist my friend :D.

We went out on Wednesday night to play pool, the car is doing better after changing the starter and it is holding a charge better, still has a little issue though with maintaining power. We leave and I stop by a gas station to check on the radiator level, oil, and tranny fluid. After getting back into the car I turn it on and it started like a champ. I go to turn on the lights - nothing. . . No interior lights. . . Turn signals work, brake lights work. . . Dammit is what I thought. No blown fuses. . . So the next two hours outside this gas station my friend and I are under the dash checking all connections. We thought we found a problem but it didn't fix the issue. I found a yellow wire that wasn't fully connected. It looked like it was grounding out actually. We reconnected it, no power to interior or lights. Find another wire a 4 grey into one grey going into the fuse panel, this wire has a goo substance from burnt eletrical wire - thinking we're getting somewhere we follow the wire, it is not shorted out and not gorunded out or anything. . . We reconnect it after cleaning it off and still no lights. Now basically we are to a point where I believe the Light switch itself is fried. . . There are three hot leads going into the fuse panel that go through the light switch that are not hot now but should be. . . Problem starts there. . . So after 2 hours of working on the car in the gas station and bringing it home the next morning I got a load of work to do this weekend. The horror of 80's Camaros and GMs continues

Well, Finally after going through the whole electrical system this weekend I came up with the best solution to my huge problem which has gone further then the headlights and instrument panel. . .

This is my solution. . . take the radiator cap off the car and place it on a new one :D

Well I had everything finally fixed with the eletrical issues. . . Also have a new 350 small block coming my way. A carbed engine which would fix more problems then I wanted to deal with. Now after a weekend of joy riding on the track I cracked both sides of the frame :( So I am looking for a Replacement now. The only thing I found, which Chevy lovers are going to hate me for, but a 1990 Mustang GT with a brand new crate engine in it :D
