CE... Is that diesel? Both the 5 and 6 cylinder Merc. diesels and turbodiesels lasted forever.
Parts will get 'ya once stuff starts breaking, but it won't break too often.

I'm not so sure about this generation of Mercedes, but the previous-gen were well known for high reliability and longevity. My dad's got an '82 300SD, so it's a turbodiesel. Upwards of 270,000 miles and still going strong, although a rear wheel bearing needs replacing.

I will direct you Here and Here . And Here, too.

make sure you have the complete maintenance records. for milage that high i wouldnt pay more than $4k-$5K and only if i had records. for lower milage and excellent condition, i'd pay up to about $8K.

make sure the headgasket has been done, and the valve guides while they were there.

also, later models 94-95 (and some late model 93s) had wiring harnesses that were designed to be eco friendly and disintegrate when they got junked, except the heat in the engine bay started the process early and that results in all sorts of electrical gremlins.

get an independent mercedes mechanic to look at if first. a PPI will only cost about $100. well worth it for a car that can be a potential moneypit. in that link in the post above for mercedesshop.com look for a thread called "good shops/ mechanics in your area." call around the ones near you and see how much they will charge for a prepurchase inspection. also, that mechanic might have a line on another one for sale whose history they are familiar with.

some AC units can be faulty.

other than that these cars are stone reliable. however, if something should break you are going to pay out the arse to get the parts.

i love my 300E.

Thanks bud! Appreciate the help. 👍

I own a W124 mercedes. an '87 300E to be exact. they are really nice solid cars. its like a tank. if you plan on getting one, make sure of its history. mine was used by 6 people!!! and i paid the price. peeling paint, brake job, belt, gaskets, flex joints, suspension about to go... parts are kinda expensive. and i dont think these have knock sensors, so i put 93 oct gas in mine. only cause i drive like im playing GT4 :)
Overall a great car. and if its legal where you live, put a Euro plate on the front! they're kick as s!

oh yeah, i also have no A/C. and i just moved from Florida to upstate New York. thank god. i havent bothered getting it fixed or replaced. it would probably cost a bajillion dollars, and its probably not a job you want to do in your garage.
