I am pretty sick of racing 'cocky' racers who use driver aids and think they're good. I am well aware of the hardcore GT racers who actually use no aids, interior view (Premium), and manual transmission but thats a small percentage.

Here is my challenge to all who care enough to read this: Drop the driver aids. After around level 20, you should just drop the driver aids (that includes using manual transmission and interior view.) This is a simulator. Treat it like one. Im aware that some people want to just have fun but thats just some people. The rest dont have an excuse. The rest are just lazy. If you want to get better, just answer and complete my challenge. Not just for 1 or 2 races. Make it a habit.

eeeeh... no.

Automatic+Driver Aids, level 30.

I think you'll find that the community who uses no aids (or just TCS +1) along with the manual transmission is about as big as the bunch who use all the aids and auto transmission.

I like this line:
This is a simulator. Treat it like one.
People do treat it like a simulator. Cars IRL have driver aids (not SRF though) aswell as automatic gearboxes. Question is what's your point?

There is nothing hardcore about Gran Turismo. Its physics are good, for a console game. But it's nothing compared to an actual PC sim.

Okay, but if you are still using a controller, what difference does it make? I don't know any cars that you drive using a PS3 Controller/
When using a controller, i drive with chase cam and in Auto. (Traction control and stuff turned off)
But when i can be bothered to set up my wheel, then i will put it in manual and interior cam.
It has nothing to do with being scared, its because I remember this is a GAME and you are supposed to play it how you find most FUN. A concept you don't seem to have grasped.

All Assists off, no HUD, Damage Heavy. That's the way I play.

I prefer Arcade Mode Damage, though.

You should try WRS for a challenge. :) You'll see there how good you are, at least in terms of fast laps. 👍

Hey instead of telling people this is what to do, this makes you hardcore... look around you. Does GT really seem hardcore? Or does it play like a well done console game with the best simulation elements to still make the game fun for all. If you want to see the whole community become hardcore go play a game such as iRacing.
Sooner or later you will realize you are playing with a community of people who do not play this game like you. I personally do, but am not 'cocky' about it. It's just the way I play and it doesn't make me any better than the next guy.
*Also* a lot of cars do run driving aids in real life racing. I know Formula One cars have traction control and possibly a hint of stability controls. And some Le Mans race cars may use traction control, however I'm not sure. There are tons of examples in professional racing where aids are needed otherwise the cars would wheelspin under acceleration with the slightest touch on the throttle.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but GT5's online community are all hardcore simulation racers ;)

So, what's your point? You race how you want and others race how they want. Or am I missing something?

The interior view is pretty, but it is a distraction. Why should I look at two steering wheels and effectively shrink my field of view? And should I be turning off ABS in cars that come equipped with it?

F1 cars don't use traction control these days. Case in point, the recent Hungarian GP.

RE-RE-EDITED - I DID USE THE EDIT FEATURE FAMINE.

I play assists off besides ABS but why do you care how people play the game? Why don't you worry about how you drive rather than challenging the rest of the community?

:)
I think the OP just posted that to stir up some excitement, hehe.

being too poor (or cheap?) to buy a good racing wheel, and being stuck with the DS3, I think TCS is a must. I use the right analogue stick for throttle control and its still not as smooth as I'd like it.

And whatever you want to call it, "driving simulator" or whatever else. Its still a game :) and its a fun one too!

So what you are saying is you are afraid to race hardcore?

When I want "hardcore", I take my real car to the track for an HPDE...Sad to say I'm not yet good enough to yank the fuses for ABS and TC... :)

I never use any driving aid since day 1. I believe a lot of people is doing the same thing as me.

I only use ABS on 1 & my view is roof cam. When I feel like it, I'll use manual & sometimes interior view. This view in some cars sucks. Case in point, the Peugeot 905 LM car. I get damn seasick with the cockpit view in it!  :yuck:

DS3, X and square for accelerate and brake, D pad (not stick) for steering, everything off except ABS 1. Its bumper cam every time for me though.
As previously mentioned, premium interior cam looks pretty but, feels odd and you lose too much field of vision.

I have been fulfilling your request all the way to A 37 👍.
Hope this pleases you.

Now do it without hitting anyone.
Now do it in real life.

Maybe if I was playing GT5 on a 3 screen wide screen i'd use interior view, but I'm not, and I don't have full range vision. So playing interior view is hindering yourself more then anything. That would be like driving with blinders on.

As for aids, I use ABS 1.

Too bad driving manual in GT5 with a DS3 is nothing like real life unless you have a paddle shift gear box which most cars don't.

I am A-spec level 37, I normally keep ASM on and ABS at 1, then drop everything else.

The only time I use manual transmission is when I am drag racing and every second counts.

I'm so hardcore than when I crash I get my wife to pound me with a sledgehammer. If it's a heavy crash, she does it while throwing acid at my face.

I'm guessing you're racing in the online lobby. There is a huge group of guys who use no aids: Racing Series

Some are just unaware that using no aids helps you really learn to drive and obtain faster lap times. I was that way until I read an article about dropping aids.

However, if you're really up to the challenge enter this challenge. No aids, No ABS, Strong Penalties and Heavy Damage: Masters Series Two weeks from yesterday. Lets see who's REALLY hardcore and up to the challenge!

Interesting. However, I just spray a bottle of champagne around the room every time I win. I then drink it straight from the bottle until it flushes out my sinuses... painfully. The unfortunate downside to this is having an acute alcohol dependency and double vision meaning that it's going to take a couple of years to get to lvl 40...

...I'm sick alot too. :yuck:

THAT'S the real racing simulator, right there!

Alternatively I just play it my way, after all, I paid for it.

That would include using auto transmissions on auto cars and using TCS and other driver aids on cars where those systems cannot be turned off.

Turning off the aids does nothing for realism. NOTHING.

If you ever see a room online that calls itself "real" or "pro" just because the aids are off, the host doesn't know anything about cars.

All this from someone who has never used the things.

Side note, levels mean nothing and have no relation to skill, so the level 20 thing doesn't really have any meaning.

I used to race on PC with NASCAR 3 and 4, online leagues, etc. and always used cockpit view. In GT5 however, it shakes so unrealistically bad it gives me headaches or epilepsy! I think it's because the cam/view is attached to the car and doesn't account for the body and head's ability to stabilize the view a human driver would have in real life.

It's just too shaky. 👎

I play without aids and only ABS
thats not that impressive really....

That's a good point. I just find that the bumper cam is the closest to how your vision behaves when you drive IRL. I don't tend to 'see' the pillars and my hands on the wheel. I can't ignore them on the screen using cockpit view, it's too distracting for me. It feels like you're sitting too far back as well, even with my wheel and rig up close to the screen.

Already do that... haven't driven in auto since GT3...
I always race with Manual, No ASM, SRF, etc... occasionally TCS +1, but only if I'm grinding and can't be bothered with concentrating. and ABS +1 on DS3 but off on G27
