A Compromise (Somewhat)

Maybe this belongs somewhere else, maybe this will get closed, who knows. But, I want to get this out, because I feel like it would be great for both the GTers and Polyphony, and I feel like its a great idea.

This is an idea regarding a livery editor in a Gran Turismo game. It was spoken of that possibly we'd get one in GT5, but to no avail. The same thing goes for GT6 and a livery editor, at least not yet. This is all speculation, but maybe PD has come so close to adding a livery editor before, only to reconsider at the last moment for fear of explicit content being made as a product of immature players using a livery editor, thus making the GT players unhappy? This is a question that I alluded to in a status update earlier this week:

If anyone is familiar with the livery editor in Grid 2 or early Need for Speed games, such as NFS Underground 2, then that is the kind of livery editor I'm thinking of. We may not get a full-on livery editor, but we do still get a livery editor. Not only is PD happy to not have to put up with people seeing explicit content on cars, but we are happy as well.

Yes, a livery editor like the one I suggested may not be liked by everyone, but after all, who wants to see a giant reproductive organ while racing or driving online? I'm pretty certain the answer is "no one."

In a compromise, both sides give up something they want to get something else. PD gives up a full livery editor, as do we, for a simplified one. Deal? Like my idea? Questions? Comments? Concerns? Discuss (civilly) below.

I (as well as a lot of people) was thinking the same thing. Personally I don't think it'll happen.

Pre-made liveries would mean brand names being displayed, this is where I could see a slight issue - in terms of money. If they started to add in extra brand names into the game, I'm sure the companies would want a piece of the pie, shrinking portions of the budget.

I'm all for this idea but I won't hold my breath just yet.

Lastly, a livery editor and such weren't promised or outlined for GT5 nor 6. They said it would be a good idea and things of that nature, but no specific yes or no.

Great idea. All i really want is to make my cars look like race cars. And make my race cars with liveries I don't particularly love, look like other teams cars. In the case of any team Joest, I'll take any other livery than theirs or the C9, ( what I wouldn't give for the the old Kouros or YSL liveries on that car). Also, the alpine A110s in rally spec with proper livery . RUF's? with any Nurb team livery? I'll take that. (I really want a MP4-12 GT3 car but that's another thread somewhere else). May the force be strong with you, so that the universe and PD hear you, and make it happen.

I personally just want different stock stripes/stripe removals. For Example: For the 69 Camaros, they could have a Supersport Stripe, RallySport Stripe, Z28 Stripe, or No Stripe option. No extra brand companies, just the ones we already have.

I don't mind seeing reproductive organs while playing online.

Yep, He is probably trying to add it in the game, but way later, Also he used it on the Chrome Cars and Black-Slt Cars, and I remember in a Presentation for GT5 way back, (Probably in 2008) On the List of features it said Livery Editior

But then again, Alas Kaz has to wake up that this game isn't just his masterpiece, it's everyone's, He could have kept the Idea of GTHD back in 2007, not make the GT5 prologue, and actually work from GT4, make it have everything it didn't have (Livery Editior and New Cars) and Boom! There you go, A realistic Racing game, with custom cars, real day-night timing,weather conditions, Fictional and Real Tracks, Motion Blur effects with Real Time, but NO, He is just gonna keep on lying and delaying. He better realize that GT will die soon, if he doesn't do nothing about it.

Ahh yes, the livery editor. Forza's is epic and I'd love to see something similar in GT

If they're worried about swearing, breasts, penises etc they could smack a 12+ rating
on the game couldn't they?

ps. I've only ever seen something that could be considered offensive (**** you on the

I don't think it would be a simple transfer...there would still need to be tweaking to alter according to each car's size and surface proportions compared to the original that you had created.

And the under 12's would still buy it, and the parents would get all morally outraged, despite not controlling what their kids buy or borrow. A fair idea, but I think that route would cause them more work than they really need.

All this nonsense about brand names and explicit content being put on cars is ridiculous! To all the people arguing this then they have probably never played a game with a livery editor before. The livery editor is a wonderful thing where people can make incredible creations. Take Forza 4's for example. I've played online on that game a lot, and not once have I seen something offensive on someones car. The way it works is that if there's an offensive design people can report it and it will get removed. Simple! The best designs will rise to the top and the worst fall to the bottom. As for brand names, again there are people putting these logos that they make or buy that aren't originally in the game on their cars, and it honestly doesn't infringe any licensing or copyright at all. So to everyone do you want a livery editor, or do you just want to keep on complaining about these stupid things?

Or just make the race cars paintable like other cars, they keep their sponsors but the base colour can be altered. This would be my choice.

I've played Midnight Club LA for it's livery editor and online I've NEVER seen inappropriate liveries. And so what if they do exist. Are you going to die if you see a poorly drawn dick? Did you ever go to high school?

You're quite right, and you could add that many sponsors identify with a particular colour. Pepsi wouldn't like to be on a red car and Coke wouldn't like to be on blue. Some sponsors wouldn't have any problem with the backing colour but I imagine it could get complicated to sort out.

On XBL you can set games like Forza to block UGC, I don't imagine that PSN's any different. If you really did think that unsupervised online play was suitable for an eight-year-old person then you'd presumably at least switch that option?

No, but all games with online capabilities are noted as "Online not rated by the ESRB/PEGI." And it can not be rated due to the varying content available, of course. It wouldn't be wise to rate online anyways as that would give any game with such an option an M/18 rating. Definitely not the rating you want labeled on your game that's designed to be for younger audiences.

For reasons not to have a livery editor, I wouldn't imagine inappropriate content is the most worrying thing. These are Japanese developers, and they are noted as artists. I could take a guess and say they don't appreciate the tampering of their work. But that's just a thought that can be a possibility.
