A few tips for drifting with DS3

I've got a few tips for people who are struggling like i was a few days ago, I finally understand what the common errors are.

First of all, CONTROL. When you start a drift never ever hold onto the accelerator and never ever let go of it the whole time. What I tend to is lightly tap the x button and when I over do it I let the car slide on its own.
Sometimes even going down a gear for a few seconds will help.

You have to find the balance of the car you're using, once you understand the limits and the minimals you should be doing much better and can even get a perfect run of some tracks.

Second, dont fiddle too much with the settings if you don't know what you're exactly doing. In my old setup I tweaked everything in some way. Once I took the suspension and some other stuff to the default setting the car could maintain a drift much better and the handling felt great.

Third, dont over do it. If your instincts tell you that you have accelerated too much then brake and go down a gear or two. If you keep bailing out you will not learn the balance of the car. Also if your drifting with people you can get in the way if you go out of control.

Fourth, lower the BHP. The car will be able to be controlled better when your BHP is lowered a little. Im not saying all fast cars can't drift correctly it's just more difficult to drift a fast car if you're a beginner.

And finally, practice makes perfect. You're not going to be able to drift in a few days. I barely anywhere near perfect but I do know the technique and the balance of my car so all I have to do is practice and maybe try some new cars. Dont give up! Also dont blame your controller or steering wheel for not being able to drift, it takes a while.

Good luck guys¬

Good tips; when you play with the controller.. You might want to mention that as most people will be looking for tips on wheel drifting.. I was..

These aren't specific tips, there are like the basics for anyone like throttle control and stuff. Still I'll change the title.
Oh and sorry for the mixup.

Here's a quick video I made (after seeing this thread) showing my dual shock 3 controller inputs, not one of my cleanest runs btw... The way I was sitting to position the camera in front of me felt akward and I usually don't play with my hands extended that foward (yes, excuses lol) Anyway I'm using a 3rd gen. NC Mazda Roadster (MX-5 Miata in the States). It has around 320hp. Hopefully you can get an idea how one way to drift with a DS3.

Controller Setup (old school GT)
Shift Down/UP: L1/R1
Accelerate: X
Brake: Square
Ebrake: Circle

I tried playing with the throttle/brake on the L2/R2 triggers but I just can't get used to it, been playing GT since the first one and it's hard to change to a new scheme.

Use the right nipple for up/down gas/brake. Been doing it since GT1 and the only thing I like more is the wheel. The downside is you can't left foot brake...

ps. Try changing ebrake to one of the shoulder buttons. I use R1, and it lets you use one index finger for ebrake, while your thumb keeps up the revs while you downshift with the other index finger.

nice, thanks! I'm hoping to get the game for xmas or else I'll buy it myself ;D
A freind of my have it, he's a bloody good LFS player, but when he said it was hard drifting with the Volvo 240, I belive him :P
