How you make the A.I more aggressive or more smarter? I want some competitive offline racing that would challenge me since I have slow internet. :(

In the options menu, go under Arcade. Select "AI Car Characteristics". The higher the number, the more of a fire is lit under their asses.

Unfortunately, this does nothing for GT Home.:ouch:

Even then, you have to make the car exactly the same, or with extremely similar performance as the A.I., because they're still tame on the most aggressive setting. GT5 A.I. Are basically moving chicanes that only care about staying on the driving line, and stop trying once you've passed them. Hopefully this is resolved by GT6.

Thank you! I'm already getting a challenge with my competitors in the Lightweight cup! They're sticking to their lines, I've noticed, and that's what I want! Every restart would be a lesson for me to find those braking points and for me to get used to the track even more. :-)

Use stock cars.
and
You can join a race with high grip tires to race against faster cars. You don't have to change the tire type after that to make it more challenging. Automatically, the cars will be more powerful the higher grip your tires are.

This^

Also, keep in mind that the AI never have tuned cars, so if you have similar cars to the AI, make sure to keep them how you got them from the dealership (maybe a little suspension tune here and there, but overall the car should stay stock if you're expecting competitive AI)

From the looks of it after all this time, I don't think that many people realize that about the tires and using the Arcade mode for a challenge. Some people seriously think the Arcade mode in GT5 is just that.

They do actually in Arcade mode. You can hear it from the sounds mainly. A racing exhaust is easy to differentiate from a stock one.

Really? Interesting. But are you sure you aren't racing cars that have racing exhaust installed from the get go?

haha no. Choose one of those Kei cars (800kg and very weak) and add whatever you want to it, or maybe keep it stock. Choose Comfort Hard Tires and join the race at London/reverse preferably, but not because of the Olympics :D.

That's the last race I tried and you can tell the opponents had some tune-ups done. It's a really hard race too.

Mazda Autozam AZ1 - used that car

Try that race, anybody in this thread. Just try.

A few thousand miles away from my PS3 at the moment, so I can't :(

If its that way in arcade, it isn't that way in A Spec, right?

I'm unsure. I haven't tried any A-Spec races in too long of a time. I'll do it in a minute in case no one replies.

Tuned in A-Spec. Exhaust sounds and tips are a giveaway. They have the chrome look which makes it clearer on Standard cars.

The AI ride the brakes really badly. They also apex much too slowly and too early.

Interesting, I was under the presumption that AI ran stock cars. Even with the titanium exhaust, the cars aren't more then lightly tuned. If all the cars had full blown turbo & engine upgrades (which I would actually prefer because I do that to most of my cars anyway) then it would change the dynamic of the game dramatically. When you were doing these tests, were you driving a tuned car? And were you using similar tires to the AI?

Yeah, I've noticed that the AI take a very conservative driving style, probably just because Kaz wanted to limit the number of mistakes the AI makes.

Also, have you ever played the game with the driving line on? If so, you'll probably notice you can brake much later then it tells you to in a lot of cases. This is the same line the AI take, but they follow the braking points religiously. Possibly another reason they seem so sluggish

It's interesting you guys see the A.I. as being 🤬. Because for me, coming from Forza to this, just over a week ago, i am amazed at the A.I.

I know I'm not the best or fastest racer, and I'm only talking about A-Spec when i say this, as i have not tried Arcade; But the A.I. actually seem like they care about making a clean race. Plus, they actually try and RACE. Each other, and you.

On Forza, they just drive. No matter what. If your in the way, they will drive through you. They also just drive behind each other. I finished both the events list on FM3 and 4, where there is 900 or so races in each and over 360h racing time. And I can safely say the AI never seemed to race. Or even behave.

From my experience, and admittedly not much in GT5, I have felt like I was actually competing against something, and when it came to me being too slow, i would get overtaken very smoothly and professionally. And as for them being too slow, the would even sacrifice they're "inside racing line" to let me pass.

At the start of my A-Spec career, I was often the one, "sticking to the racing line" and hitting stuff, because i wasn't used to it, and i think a lot of people that judge the A.I. overlook their own driving. Now I'm not saying this to cause drama, and it is definitely not aimed at anyone. I'm just saying i have seen people driving, basically "however they want", and expecting the A.I. to be able to mould around their driving patterns. Which is basically impossible, at this time anyway.

All this is just my opinion though, and if that wall of text is too big, here's my summary; I think GT5 A.I. are great, miles ahead of Forza to say the least.

The Ginetta G4 at the top of the opponents list for the current "World Classic Cars" seasonal has a mid-RPM range turbo kit on it, which explains why sometimes it has 98 HP and sometimes it has 133 HP.

Thanks for your input ^^^. We wouldn't have known for a really long time, otherwise.

AMAZING! Someone who understands what Artificial Intelligence IS. I liked reading what you had to say 👍.

I never played the game with the driving line on, except for the one license test where I think you're forced to have it on. Even for that license test, I totally disregard the driving line and take my own line through the corner which is much, much faster.

Humans while driving make loads of mistakes, and the AI in GT5 also crashes a couple of times, so what is the point of programming the AI to drive in such a preservative way? What makes it worse is that, when you overtake an AI driver in GT5, they actually lift off the gas, even on a straight with an open road ahead when it's not necessary. That's the thing that really 🤬 me off. If the AI are going to be so slow in the corners, then at least they could give you some competition on the straights, but no. They wanted to save 0.000001 litres of fuel, just in case  .

Knocking down your tires a notch or two will help keep you from outbraking the AI so much. Also respecting their track position-no dive bombing or passing off track.

No I have seen AI cars with racing exhaust and GT AUTO wheels on a 370z

I was grinding the Nurburgring seasonal yesterday with my RX7 TC.. I can completely attest to the rolling chicane argument.. Id do like double their speed through a corner and come right into their back bumpers (I'm very aggressive offline) with nowhere to go, my choice was either nail them straight off the track or try and get by in the grass.. I screwed up many a grass pass

Interesting comparison betweeen the Forza and GT A.I. I've never played Forza to compare but lots of folks seem to swear by the Forza A.I. on this forum. Nice post BTW.

I know EXACTLY what you mean man. I've grinded many a Nordschleife seasonal (I usually use a detuned LMP) and its impossible to get by them! I get so frustrated, and that frustration turns into impatience. My impatience leads to trying to pass them on the grass because there's no room on track, which can often lead to a spin. It's extremely frustrating, as a lot of times that's my only opportunity to pass them, because like you said, I'm stuck on their back bumpers corner after corner. :grumpy:

I have to agree with this, I too have just started playing GT5 after being a very long time served forza fan, I have played all the forzas to completion and if theirs one thing I'm sure of its the fact imho that the AI in GT5 wipe the floor with that of forzas

Don't get me wrong forza does most things right I feel and I love the game even its short fall's with a passion but it's AI's simply have no race craft what so ever where as the ones used in GT try there level best to race clean.

The guy I'm quote ing put it right , if there is one thing Gt has over forza it's its AI .

I've never had an AI take me out in FM4.
They know when you're there but I would like it if they were a bit more aggressive.
But both GT5 and FM4 need to have quicker Ai, what's the point if you destroy them every race?

Now play FM3, and you will find that it's a completely different story, especially if you happen to be racing with M.Rossi (he's usually in a red car).

M.Rossi strikes (note that he's in the red Buggati, and the player is in the blue Charger):
