Over the past few months i have hurd of people saying R2 tires are the best way to play GT. And how they really show how the physics works. Most peope say that R3 tires are noob and make it to easy. They way i see it is R3 are the hardest to use, because of the higher speeds you are able to reach.

P.S. Lotus Elise 111R is not noob!!!!!

WHat are your thoughts

S3 tires: Not noob.
Lotus' shining star Elise: Not noob.

Don't let the peons get to you, there are always people who cry unfair. Just do what you like. :)

Who said R2 tires are the best way to play GT?
And what makes them the opposite of R3 tires? they're basically the same, with slightly less grip.

I think you might be mistaking R tires with N or S tires there.

And I fail to see how R3 tires are the hardest to use. you get similar speeds on straights with any tire available, and when you get to the corners the R3 tires allow you to negotiate them at higher speeds, not to mention they are far too kind on any mistakes made or mis-judgements on the correct cornering speed.

Note that there are no right or wrong ways to play GT, concerning tires. Each person uses the ones that he wants for any specific situation.
Of course if you're driving a road car, fitting R tires won't be realistic in terms of driving and physics, but if that person feels to use them, so be it.

Well, I have tried driving on N tyres. I fail to see how THAT is realism. I thought most cars used a superhard form of sports? :scared:

Fitting R tires on a road car in real life is an awesome thing, beerz.

Yes great in real life if you happen to carry tyre warmers with you all time, and best hope it doesn't rain or the temperature drop to much.

Cold racing slicks + rain = No grip and backwards into a tree.

To the OP, if you want the experience the closest to 'normal' tyres with most of the cars in GT5:P then you need to use either N2 or N3 tyres, you are not likely to win many races, but if will give you (with pro physics on) an idea of how difficult a powerful car can be to drive on the limit.

:sick:Who would ever ride R compounds in the rain?? Or push them before they are warmed up? lol Obviously you don't put R comps on a daily driver, the tread wear is terrible! I've driven R compounds before, haven't had any on my 350z yet but they have just started making 19 inch R compounds I've been looking into.

@ scaff...totally agree...i hear people say:why is that supercar so talehappy, and why do i spin out all the times......my reaction:go to a dealer, step into a corvette or somethis,go to a sharp bend and floor the throttle......than you will notice how extremely difficult it is to actually drive a high powred car on the limit!!!!......some guys i know did this and are now silent!!!!
i guess some people never realise that contolling a car in real life is much more a chalange than racing a game(eventhough gt comes very very close!!)

Yup, some people are naive and don't realize its all about the driver. :)

Speaking of which, this video totally fits the discussion on how a high powered RWD car reacts when provoked the slightest bit by a less experienced driver moron.

R compound tyres in the real world are not the same as R compound tyres in the GT series.

Real R-compound tyres such as this...

...are closest to S class tyres in the GT series. Its still road legal (just), and while its cold/wet performance is greatly reduced, its still not the same death trap in those conditions as these would be.

...being a full blown racing compound slick (and of course not even close to road legal) and offering almost no grip at all until warmed up.

The following thread may interest you, it was done for GT4, but looked at the grip levels offered by the different tyres and how they relate to real tyres.

GT series

I just did challenge A-2 in a Ford GT, S2 tires. All aids off and in pro mode ... good fun 👍
good lesson in throttle control for anyone new to GT.

so S tires are the besy way to c the physics. And in GT5p do you really need to heat up R tires to get them to be extra stickey?????????

No the best way to see the physics and how they relate to road cars on road tyres is by using N2 or N3 tyres, those are the closest to real world road tyres.

R3? are you kidding me?

this is what i've done in GT4 when simply cruising:

N1 - <150hp
N2 - 150-400hp, stock street cars
N3 - 400-600hp stock street cars, or modified cars 300-500
S1 - >500hp modified
S2 - LM and other race cars > 600hp
R1 - F1

Polyphony put this list on the GT5P internal manual:

The list was updated with the new cars on Pal release.

Excellent list and I'm glad to see that most of it matches my own testing on GT vs Real tyres from GT4.

That will be very handy.

Thanks

oh god I love the "lot of money, little of skill" nutbags!

I rather there be actual name brand tires. Not trying to piss people off but...forza 2 had a preety good system. Better tires needed more money. And the LMcars only came with Race tires. This way you could also see the differnce of tires companys. Because tires play a big role in racing.

I agree. I said earlier in the wish thread that I wanted GT5 to really focus on rim sizes, offsets, overall weight, and price (Volk being the most expensive :)) As well as a large selection of tires and tire sizes. Allowing you to stretch your tires for no sidewall and good drifting. Or put the biggest softest tire you can fit on the rim/in the wheel well. This kind of detail would make the game a never ending world of customization.

Well lets be fair here, everything you ask for here, aside from the named tyre brands, has been in every full release of GT so far. The name side of things in the Forza series has actually been little more than a branding exercise, with the actual type of component being the main determining factor (which could also be said of tuner parts in GT4).

However back to the point, from the very first GT game, better tyres have cost you more and race cars have come with race tyres. So why I understand your point, you are actually asking for something that has always been in the full Gran Turismo releases. GT5:P is not a full release and it treats tyre choice in exactly the same way as the other 'partial' GT releases such as Concept and GT4:P, so I would not worry too much for the full version of GT5.

I more than agree however that tyre are a massively important part of racing, if I recall correctly a member once did a comparison with GT4 to look at which upgrade gave you the best lap time advantage for the money spent and tyres came out in top. They are the only upgrade that will improve acceleration, cornering and braking in one hit.

yea i am sure a couple of those cars would also need S's, like the TVR.

Anyway, i will say my only problem with tyres in this game and all of the GT's is how they never change their appearance in the actual races. S look the same as N and what not, i think that is so weird, and surely it would be that hard to have different tyre designs.

It is not a nooob thing at all all the tyres are for the way u like the car to feel some ppl like the tale out some ppl like me dont so i use the R3 if can but that is just the way i like my car i like to know what it is doing at all time at the end of the day u payed to gt5 so what you do with it is up to you m8 so just play it how you like :)

At least on GT4 each tire type has a different pattern(rally, snow, N, S and R), easy to spot on photomode.
