It can get a little silly on here at times. There are far too many people happy to snap at someone just because they have made a mistake. Like they've never made a mistake in their lives.

I remember when I first logged in and was faced with the GT4 section of the forum and all those 8+ pages threads, full of info. No wonder people start new threads, when the one piece of info they want is tucked away on page 5 of 8. I'm not saying people should start without searching first, just saying that I can understand why some people do it.

Cheers

Jamie

Sage, Distinguished Members,

The original message of this thread is dead-on. 👍

I gave up on the gt4 sections because of the attitude and maturity of the members here.
Every day it was something new and it never comes down to a simple solution when you have newbies making errors only so vets can come in and tear them apart.

With situations like this in the past I often felt more sympathy and respect for the newbie than the normal member that acted like a mod.

For a newbie to screw up it is one thing: a mistake.
For a vetern to screw up by acting like a mod it is something else: Plain rude.

The key to members trying to help newbs is that everyone remembers being helpful and being constructive does not mean being rude or short tempered.

Remember, you can be helpful, and you can be diligent. However simply doing one does not mean you are doing the other.

Be helpful & diligent, but always remember that you're goal should be to help newbs and not hurt them.

I'm sure all of you will do your best with this.

Oh, and of course...
All of you who want to post your thoughts or a new thread for a subject you just thought up... Do a Search!

For real...
Learn to use the search function!

Also, learn to post replies in threads of similar subjects.
Do not post a new thread every time you think of another car you would like to see in GT4.
Remember to look for threads on similar subjects!
Just doing that much can and will make a great difference on this board.

Well that's enough from me, but once again, Sage 👍

There are times when there are no mods here, during which time the thread just gets spammed. Would it be possible to have "trusted members" with the ability to lock threads? A mod would then come along later and decide what to do with it.
Well, then, they would be mods, wouldn't they? ;) Jordan's adding a couple more people to the team, so that should free up some time for a few of us to swing by here more often.

I've actually reported one or two threads recently that haven't been closed. That's cool, that's what the mods are here for, to judge the situation and act accordingly. I trust their judgement.
BTW, in light of that, I should note that sometimes I (personally) would rather a thread take its own course than have outside interference... for example, they Hypothetical Questions thread was reported, but because I couldn't even figure out where the original hostility in the thread was traced back to, I decided to sit back and let it run its course... and as you'll notice, it's kind of gone down a good path now. :)

Thing is, all the mods have become super-mods as there was little point having a mod online who couldn't deal with a situation in any given forum - so they've all been given control of all forums (forumses? Forae?). So anyone who's a "trusted member" who can lock threads in a specific forum is then a mod - but then there's no point in them being online and not being able to deal with a problem elsewhere - and so on.

Unless there could be a rank of "Undermoderator", or just "Trusted Member" - as you suggest - who only has the one power... The power of lock anywhere on the site.

Theres is FAR FAR FAR too much ass kissing imo, I can't stand all this "ohh yeah, your ace *bows down*, I'm your boy" crap, it's pathetic. They just wanna get on Johns ass kissing list :D

Can it.

"Can it."

short answer, no. Not your forum, nor are you a mod. If I was in the wrong, I'm sure a mod can tell me, not you. My point is valid, the fact is, there is ALOT of brown nosing, so it's not like I'm making it up.
:grumpy:

Oh dear. You just didn't read the first post through at all.

Well, if you want to ignore my friendly advice and just carry on metaphorically flapping your word hole for the sake of just seeing your bile appear on the screen, knock yourself out. Bear in mind what Sage actually said though, eh?

Sage
There are many people though who are yelling just to hear themselves yell, and I will not tolerate that any longer.

Your advice was hardly friendly now was it :P It was smart arsed.

If you read the post PROPERLY yourself, you would realise that it is refering to the ripping apart of new members, and yelling at them. So once again, you can deflate that ego, if the mods have a problem with me, they can say something to me.

New members aren't mentioned until halfway down the post.

It applies to ALL members. Not just to everyone who's not you. I find it slightly ironic that you're trying to start a fight in a thread about not starting fights...

My advice to you was perfectly civilised. You don't wish to take it that way - fine. Just don't say I didn't warn (meaning "alert" rather than "admonish") you.

Well I feel sorry for pete, and thats coming from someone who doesn't even know who the guy is

For a vetern to screw up by acting like a mod it is something else: Plain rude.

I don't get this part, I'd have thought more members acting like mods would be welcomed, quietly and calmly directing people to the answer for their question, little more. People who go in and call a new member a rude names aren't exactly acting like mods.

*Raises hand* That one was my doing, and I had no problem with the discussion, just the attitude, cobra has been told before about it.

Let me see......who around here *cough Eagle* goes to every thread *cough Eagle* and decides that it is worthless *cough Eagle* or makes some snide comment about searching *cough Eagle*.

Havn't been using this forum for long but I very much agree that this type of post was needed. Let's hope that it improves the quality of posts being made.

When it comes to Eagle, he basically isn't a bad person. I'm kind of sick of sticking up to him all the time, but I think he's doing what he can to share his views whether good or bad. He can say almost anything he wants, but does he hate anybody? I don't think so. Does he always like to come in and ruin happy moments? Not at all. In the past in other threads, I've been involved in threads where a person just comes into some of my discussions and replies and always looks to attack me for my views. So I've dealt with regular forum members elsewhere, and even got entangled with moderators who had a problem with me. On one site, I lasted for 1/2 a year to a year, got treated badly. Then another site, I did about 17 or 25 posts, didn't last for a half of a year, get OWNED and disrespected, so coming here, things are better. And what I've learned from my past, I'm trying to make sure that new members trying to have fun on a fun website like this one, I'm just trying to make things better.

You have the option to put him on your ignore list. It works for me!

You can hate me all you want but the plain fact is there are people who post a lot more negative things than I do and do it a lot more consistently and have contributed a lot less.

I totally agree..there is far too much of this type of thing.

This thread is about showing respect to other members, there are days when I come here to read the boards and give up because they are just full of nasty little comments. It's like eaves dropping on a argument in a childrens playground.
