It depends on your definition on precision steering, the steering responds better on the joystick than on the d-pad, so you'd really want to use it for steering.

I personally think that tap-tap brings in more in terms of skill, especially when drifting. I've seen motorsport events where drivers and drifters use the "tap-tap" method
