The Final sector....
At the front of the race is Mr. P's pretty little 206....he slips cleanly throught the 'S'es and drops into the tight right-hander, bangs his downshifts perfectly, hits the 'go' pedal.....Nobody is going to catch him here today. He's starting to open up a lead over GTmich who appears to be struggling after Mr. P shocked him with the pass earlier.
T13R's Corolla, with Max E's 206 right on his rear fender make their move past GTmich's ailing Corolla. They try to close ground on Mr.P, but he flat-foots it through the big tunnel sweeper and gets a good launch off the dry tarmac into the final straightaway. First place is Mr. P at 1:23.515!.... then a gap of a few cars to T13R, with Max E trying desparately to get by him as they come out of the tunnel.....he's beside him....he's gaining, gaining.....but no! He just misses the second spot by a bumper (.006 of a second) Almost a photo finish with times of 1:23.734 and 1:23.740!
Just behind the podium finishers, GTmich has gotten the Corolla back up to speed and he closes hard to finish just off the front three....just a tenth of a second back at 1:23.845. Kind of a disappointment for the early runaway leader.
There's a whole lot more going on behind the top 4 cars....The amazing Focus of LDM has dropped way off the pace, those 'S' curves seemed to have thrown him off his rhythm. Zero's Corolla apparently stuck behind the faltering Focus and he's schuffled back with him. That opens the door for the 'old pro' UB57 to drive his Impreza Proto into fifth spot.....but, traffic has left him some 4-5 car lengths behind the leaders at the finish. His 1:24.328 puts him just ahead of Lotus350's hard-charging 206.
She and GT3Emperor make the biggest moves forward in the last sector of the race. She had dropped back to 11th place behind Phattboy...and the Emperor to 12th at the T2 checkpoint. She drove brilliantly to get by Phattboy's EVO, then worked her way by the fading cars of Barbol, Venom 77, HughJeers and others to put her 206 just off the bumper of UB57. She finished a fast-closing 6th with Gt3Emperor's Impreza following her thru to 7th.
Next...swinging four-wide coming out of the final tunnel is Phattboy 8th, with a slight lead over Barbol in 9th, with Venom77 in 10th on his fender.....the horsepower of LDM's Focus pulls him hard into the final straight and he closes to just off the front bumper of Venom's EVO! "Power is nothing without Control" and the Focus proves the theory. After running as high as 5th, he finishes a well-fought 11th place.
Zero's Corolla and HughJeers 206 had potential, but they never could get the breaks they needed to go to the front. Tommy and WernerWinkels bring up the final group of cars that have now spaced themselves out crossing the finish line over a second or more behind the winner.
Another great battle is in the books....congradulations to everyone who put in their best effort!
